Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely hotel. The room and bathroom are way above average. I loved the underfloor and towel rail heating in the bathroom. We had dinner twice here and both times the food and service were very good. The only pitfall with this hotel is the breakfast. Each time we had breakfast the tea and coffee were lukewarm and not very pleasant. The coffee/tea pots set out on the table were not able to retain their heat and thus spoiled the whole breakfast experience. Such a shame since everything else about this hotel is wonderful.

Right next to a beautiful park. Our room was initially on the road and too noisy for me being a light sleeper but they moved us straight away to a quieter room. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good lunch although kids portions were very small.

We were greeted by Reception and Concierge employees who really cared about us as guests and did everything to make our experience perfect. In fact all the staff we met, from housekeeping to room service did everything to make our stay the best - and it was. The location is excellent, a quick walk to a Casino, a little longer walk to stretch our legs to the city center and all the restaurants and shopping. Comfortable bed, hot shower with good pressure, and all the amenities you could want.

We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights at The George mainly because of the location and the excellent reviews. As we traveled through New Zealand, people would ask where we would be staying in Christchurch and when we said, The George, they all said, that's where we would recommend. When we checked in, we were disappointed about the room location, so we went to the front desk to see if there was another option. They immediately went to work to accommodate us. Throughout our stay all of the staff that we came in contact with were top notch - front desk, concierge, housekeeping. This is a hotel that knows how to treat their guests.

Everything from the welcome at reception, the appointments of our room, and dining at 50 Bistro were first class. The service was excellent. The wine selection was good. All of the elements of our dinners were well-prepared and delicious.

This is a lovely hotel. The receptionist was really helpful and accommodating and gave us all the information we needed to make the most of our time in Christchurch. Good location, across from Hagley Park North and the Botanical Gardens. Also, very close to a tram stop. Delicious breakfast.

Nice hotel. It is close to the park with lots of walking trails, the wonderful botanical gardens and city center. The consierge Mark and Jules were very helpful at getting us situated and where to go. It also has a laundry room! This is handy especially if you are in the middle of your trip.

We had a phenomenal stay at the George last week. The staff was exceptional at check-in. The room was spotless and spacious. Heated floors and heated towel bars in the bathroom. Our suite had a spectacular view of Hagley park. We loved the fact that we could walk to the botanical gardens and to the downtown restaurants. The rebuilding since the 2011 earthquake is well underway. We hope to return in the future to see more new buildings.
