Centrally located, in a city that has undergone much, but is steadily being rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of five years ago, The Heritage is a unique higher end offering in a city with few hotels in the centre of town. My two bedroom apartment was very spacious and very comfortable without being over the top in luxury. Well configured...

Dear MPRX Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback on TripAdvisor, after your stay earlier this month. It is always satisfying to read such positive comments about our hotel. I agree that the building is unique and one that we’re very proud of. Heritage Hotel Management opened the Old Government building as a luxury hotel in 1996. In...

Room exceptionally clean with high ceiling and bedroom in loft overlooking living area. Some road noise from street. Nice to have W/D in bathroom. Great location in the centre of CC. Front desk staff very helpful. Room service not good - food (from restaurant a la carte menu) was not hot and was unceremoniously dumped on the table in the...

We had two different one-night stays at the Heritage during a recent trip to New Zealand. It's in a large, renovated former government building. Rooms are quite large -- ours had an internal stairway leading from the kitchen and living room on the lower floor to the bed and bath above. Grand hallways and staircase in the public areas evoke...

Impressive heritage building that withstood the devastating earthquake in 2011. However, the hot water supply should be rehauled, as apparently if too many people decide to take a shower around the same time at night - highly likely possibility, the hot water runs out mid-shower, and you're left with freezing cold water to rinse your suds and soap out. I...

Dear Lyricaltraveller Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback on TripAdvisor. I was very sorry to read that you had issues with hot water during your stay. The hotel is an impressive converted Old Government Building. We arrived tired after a long flight from the UK via Singapore and were immediately impressed with the building which made up for dreadful weather (wet and cold). I loved thus hotel. It is a historic office building converted to a hotel and it was awesome. Our suite had a full kitchen and living room downstairs and bedroom and bath upstairs. The only downside is there is no air conditioning but they were very accommodating and brought fans for our use.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Christchurch is a long way from the Mediterranean - nevertheless, the opulence of an Italian High Renaissance Palazzo awaits you at the Heritage Christchurch. Designed by Joseph Clark Maddison and opened in 1913, the hotel is listed as a category one building on the Historic Places Trust Register, reflecting its status as a building of national significance. The hotel's grand design is fitting: after all, Christchurch is regarded as the Garden City, and is regarded internationally for its culture and refinement. ... more   less
