Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Hotel's Favourite
We have been going to the Pavilions since 2011 and it is all you need in a hotel clean, good food and freindky helpful staff. The bar and restaurant are busy and booking a table while not essential is necessary if you wish to eat at a particular time. It is an easy walk to the city, the botanics and Merivale mall. There is a bus stop outside with busses every 10 minutes or so and plenty of parking on site. Our go to home after the 23 hour flight from Scotland it can be full so book ahead.

Thank you for taking the time to post feedback on your stay with us. We are proud to be the owners of Pavilions Hotel, owned by my family for 32 years. Our staff are fantastic with many being here for well over 10 years, our staff know our customers and will go the extra mile to make your stay great. Booking ahead is always a good idea here as there are many nights we are at capacity. We hope to see you again on your next stay in New Zealand.

Hotel built 1980/1990’s.
Has Been updated.
Our room (807) was a ground floor room with a queen bed and single bed.
Beds had electric blankets and were comfortable.
Heat pump
Large TV
Alarm clock
Kitchen with Microwave, two elements , jug toaster, bar fridge .
Bathroom - shower good pressure, (good if you are tall person), toilet , vanity , hairdryer .
Parking
Spa and a small pool
We paid $119 for hotel special for two, ( we booked direct on their website)
which included full breakfast ( go early ), and two drinks for Jimmy’s Bar or we did use it in the restaurant.
Breaky - baked beans, mushrooms, sausages, tomatoes, hash browns, pancakes, poached and scrambled eggs.
Three or four cereals, tin fruits( pear, peaches, plums) and yoghurts. Toast, muffins. Tea/coffee/ orange juice/pineapple juice.
We had dinner at the restaurant which was nice and a good selection on menu. I did find the lamb salad for $27 was overpriced for what we got, but the lamb was nicely cooked coated in Dukkah. However some of the other meals did look good
Would happily stay again for the price /location and of course being a hotel locally owned!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us. You seemed to of well enjoyed all facilities of the hotel. The current special is certainly a good deal and we are finding that all are dining with us also which helps allow us to continue to supply such good value for money. We originally booked for two nights at a breakfast-included rate but after one night just had to extend our stay by a further day.
The room was sizeable with a well-equipped kitchenette, Sky TV and there was a lovely hot shower in the bathroom.
Breakfast was amazing, being plentiful, with a good selection and nicely prepared.
Staff are incredible at Pavilions and I give credit to Matthew, Ahja (sp?) and Dani in particular for their professionalism and ability, all with a smile.
Yes, we'd definitely return.

The rooms are excellent with modern fixtures and layout. The beds are so comfortable, probably the best nights sleep I had in the South Island. There is a bar and restaurant on site and the location is close enough to walk easily to the city centre. Courtyard layout to access your room from outside which is nice in the warmer months, will have to try again in winter.

Thank you for choosing to post some feedback on your stay with us. Our beds are super comfy due to the cloud like base mattress we have as the underlay. We are in a perfect location with easy walk to town and close to many local bars and restaurants. We do hope to see you return to stay with us again should you return to South Island.

Great location with restaurant and bar on site.
Bright rooms with outdoor access.
Onsite parking virtually outside your door is a big plus.
Bathrooms are the only issue - very old and the old style of plastic shower curtains need to be upgraded.
