A good and unique hotel to stay at while traveling inland. Very quiet and relaxing, even if the Japanese look & feel is a bit old Pros: - great food, and very good service. Our waiter was very energetic and nice. The restaurant and the main building generally are very nice. - the view: absolutely stunning. Try to catch the...

Stopped here on way home to Christchurch from Nelson for refreshments. Have stopped previously and recently avoided it due to poor quality service and food. Had not however been since new owners. What a refreshing change. The food looked beautiful and our scones were as good as they looked .The service was friendly and prompt. Will make this a stop in...

We came upon this lovely place when on the road to Hanmer Springs. We stopped for a coffee and a small bite to eat. The place was beautifully kept, the staff very friendly and helpful and the lodges looked a lovely place to stay.

Have visited this place several times in the past and been very happy with the overall ambience, quality of service, pools, facilities in general. So very disappointed to visit last week and find the place to resemble a building site! New owners clearly trying to update the facilities but meanwhile charging a huge hike in prices and the place resembling...

Your comments obviously reflect the fact you have not visited for a very very long time or your memory of the property has faded. We have completed a huge amount of upgrades from the rundown state we received from the vendor. These improvements include a 2.5m deep cold plunge pool, new enlarged and redeveloped outdoor hot pools, new thermal and...

Worth a stop or overnight for the hot pools, but facilities in the rooms are rather basic, and service could be a little better. Overall, not too bad, just a bit old fashioned, and not such great value for the rooms.

Great that you enjoyed the significantly upgraded pools and bathing features. The entire property is being upgraded as fast as we can. When you consider overnight guests have bathing is included in their room rate (for example $40 per day for two people for two days is $160) and our lowest room rate is for two people is $159, this...

we had 2 rooms booked mid January just after a storm so After a few phone calls on the morning of our reservation because of blocked roads and worry we wouldn't get there, we finally made it. Unfortunately we were only told when we arrived that the pools were not very hot (Luke warm at best) due to mother nature....

To put the timing of your visit into perspective the "weather bomb" we received prior to your visit was the largest rain and wind storm that locals have seen since 1952 (500mm of rain fell over a very short period of time). This storm closed the road in both directions due to landslides and the power was off in near...

Fabulous place to break your journey on the Lewis Pass (currently the main road from Christchurch to Picton.) Although the rooms & some of the buildings are looking a weeeee bit tired, the staff went beyond their duty to make us feel welcome & provide really friendly & excellent service. Food in the restaurant was very very good, awesome coffee...

What an extra special experieince. It really is miles for everywhere and in the beautiful Lewis pass. We lounged in the rock pools at night with views across the creek and down the valley - magical. It seems to be staffed by enthusiastic, hardworking 20 somethings and they certainly know how to give good service. Since there's nothing around we...

When going over the Lewis pass we have often stopped, it's usually not crowded and not unusual to get the pools to yourself. The new owners are making improvements which is long overdue. The traditional Japanese bathhouse are now togs required and it's lost some of its traditional onsen feel. My wife was particularly pleased with cafe food range and...
