This hotel is off the street, sort of between bigger buildings but is really in a good location for downtown, 5-10 min walk, if you take the shortcut to Lansdale Quay (through a parking garage and down an elevator. We arrived late and there was no one at the desk, effectively no desk (behind some sort of partition), but they had a box with a code and inside an envelope with some instructions and the key. It all worked and the room fit our needs perfectly. It was very economically laid out, no extra square footage, with separate spaces for sleeping and a living-couch and kitchen- area, plus the real winner, a washer dryer in the room! On line it seems other rooms are not the same, by the way. Once down to L.Q. there are restaurants and shops and a supermarket for food to make whatever you like. The design of the hotel is sort of different, narrow and low hallways, but our rooms were fine, with zero view (sandwiched in other buildings). In the morning there was staff, and they were very helpful.

This was everything we needed. We felt really lucky that we were able to have such a quality comfortable stay at a time the city was really busy and accomodation was at a premium. We arrived at 11am knowing that our room probably wouldn’t be ready. We got a lovely warm greeting and the woman on the desk explained that our room wasn’t ready but offered to hold our bags for us. She gave us a map and explained how to get to Lambton Quay. When we returned we got our bags and our key and headed to our room. There was little explanation from the desk about services etc, but we travel reasonably frequently so didn’t really need that. The room was small but had everything we needed. We had seen in previous reviews that the rooms were noisy due to city noise, we didn’t find this at all we felt that if you want to be in the central city then you should expect city noise. The room was clean and well appointed. Being an apartment it had good facilities including washer/drier, hob and cutlery and crockery. The bed was comfortable and the tv was a good size. The heater worked well which was a bonus given we arrived the day of a cold snap. Yes the room was dark because of the fact it is surrounded by high rise office blocks, but again completely expected if you want to be in the central city. The lighting in the room was really good so the lack of natural light was not really an issue. We only stayed two nights so didn’t use the available gym but it was nice to know it was an option. Because of it’s handy location there were plenty of places to go and eat. I didn’t try it, but I noted that you could get Uber eats if you really wanted delivery to your room. The servicing of the room was really good. We felt that the images on the website are a good representation of what you get. We liked the fact the it is in a quiet street just back from the main drag which makes it easy for drop off and pick up. It is easy to access the main road via either Plimmer steps or through the lift at Wilson car park. We were intrigued by the fact that the long corridors and wood panelling and mirrors gave a cruise ship feel to the overall facility, but we quite liked that and once we stepped into our room the decor was bright and fresh. I have to say we were very pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay here again. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a centrally located well appointed place to stay.

Excellent stay at the Gilmer! The room had everything - laundry soap, dishwashing soap, scissors (you know those are hard to find yet necessary), wine glasses, laundry rack, etc. It was a perfect spot to refresh for the next leg of my trip. The bed was great quality and the extra touches - heated towel bar rack, milk for coffee, nice selection of teas, excellent toiletries made it even better.
The location is great. To be honest, the directions to the lift sounded a little strange (go through the car park etc) in the evening BUT it turned out exactly as described and then connects you down to the street with the grocery store and cafes all around. Also fun to take the cable car up. Will recommend all to stay there - great for travellers and very quiet.

Do not stay here! We had booked in for a 3night stay and only stayed for 1 night. So disheartening what we had to experience after driving 7.5hrs for a nice family weekend away. We checked into the Gilmer Hotel Apartment where we found undies behind the curtain in our bedroom, the window in the bedroom was broken, hot water only lasted in shower for 5 minutes so only 1 person out of 4 checked in got to have a shower. When we looked at the hot water cylinder it had a leak and big hole in the cupboard ceiling. Going to bed i went to put my phone on charge (plug behind bed) so had to pull bed away from wall where I found ear cleaning bud. We stayed the first night as it was too late to check in anywhere else, once morning came we tried to get refund on the other 2 nights that we were booked in for. They agreed to refund the last night but would not approve the 2nd as the manager was overseas on a family holiday and wouldn’t be back for the next two weeks, we checked out and booked into another hotel. The service was a disgrace the manager is now back from holiday and will not refund the second night. He said the broken windows are due to a past earthquake and the hole in the ceiling is due to water damage from 3 years ago and have not fixed. No explanation for no hot water. Would not recommend at all the service we received is a utter disgrace.

I stayed at the Gilmer Hotel for just one night while catching a ferry the next day, and I can confidently say I’d happily stay here again. The accommodations were both cozy and comfortable, and the beds were incredibly plush—just what you need for a restful night!
What really made this stay stand out, though, was the exceptional service. The team at Gilmer is incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that every guest feels welcomed and well taken care of.

The location is great. Everything you need is within walking distance. The room was very comfortable with everything you need. Although I do think the carpet needed some vacuuming and the dryer setting on the washing machine didn’t work that well, so I used the dryer machine in the building which was a life saver and they even provided me with coins.
Now the customer service is excellent. I forgot my airpods in my hotel room and they delivered it to me at the airport. Amazing! When I had trouble finding the parking, they came out with me outside and showed me where it was. Same with the laundry facilities, they walked me there and showed me how to use the machines. The staff here is excellent! Do not hesitate to book!

I needed a hotel for a couple of nights when I was working in Wellington.
While it may lack harbour views it certainly makes up for it in location. Situated minutes from The Terrace and Lampton Quay.
The room was so so clean with a good size television.
Friendly staff were welcoming and extremely helpful when I asked advice on local restaurants, nearest liqour Store and supermarket was.
Super good wifi was free and the bathroom amenities were really top class.
I was able to negoiate a late check out for a small fee which was very much apreciated. They also offer what must be the cheapest carpark onsite but you do need to book in advance.
It was also very reasuring that all the staff are fully vacinated at this hotel.

Cant fault this apart/hotel. Room was very clean, large and comfortable. Was great to have parking in our package and we didnt have to use the car during our stay. Was also great to have a washing machine/dryer in the room which we made use of. We used the shortcut through the parking garage to the centre of Wellington, all the attractions were walkable. It was an easy drive to the interislander ferry terminal.

We were running a bit late to check in before the 6pm close of reception, but the GM was kind and helpful and assured us that we will be fine to check in. And he was right! Very easy and helpful check in process, and the place is located in the central of Wellington, while being away from the hustle and bustle so the room was quiet and peaceful. Perfect for what we needed for our one night stay just to rest after a couple of hectic days of traveling. The room was neat, well equipped with a kettle, microwave, toaster, hobs, dishes and tea towels, and we even received welcome cookies upon check in. All in all, a great, clean, modern place to stay and close to everything. Will stay again!

What a fantastic accommodation and pleasant experience the Gilmer Apartment Hotel provided. My wife actually got "homesick" when we left Wellington for a few days and was glad to be back at Gilmer with its comfortable bed and outstanding staff to welcome us. We stayed for two weeks in February 2023, then spent three weeks touring the South Island, then returned for two more weeks at Gilmer in March. The Gilmer Hotel is close to shops and accessible restaurants on and around Lambton Quay, and just a few blocks from the waterfront and its spectacular views.
The super friendly manager Steffin and reception staff Antonia, Mya and Rachel were quick to recommend places to visit and restaurants at which to dine. They truly made our stay special. The housekeeping staff also were quite pleasant and helpful in times of need.
My wife is confined to a wheelchair so we stayed in a large handicapped accessible room with a kingsize bed, plenty of room for her to maneuver around, and excellent hand rails at the shower and toilet so she could manage those activities on her own. One note of accessibility: the hotel is on a hill so it is a short 10 meters downhill from the car park to the hotel entrance. All things considered we will stay here on our next visit to Wellington and certainly will recommend it to friends and family. Thank you Gilmer team.

Hello Michelle, we do not have smart TV's. We do have HDMI cables connected to all TV's to the Sky box so I wonder whether this may work, however, this is untested.
You need to let them know in advance that you will arriving so late. They can leave the key to your apartment in a lock box by the door, they then text you a code to unlock the box to get the envelope with your room key and swipe card to get into the lobby area. Hope that helps.

It's better if you were to contact the hotel and ask directly.
You can pre-book a parking space with the hotel in the small street alongside the hotel for NZ$15 per night.We found it safe,convenient & you can drive in & out whenever you want.

We now have unlimited free wifi at Gilmer Apartment Hotel. We do not have air conditioning but we have fans which cool the rooms adequately.
