Check in was okay information felt script like was told there is on site parking when asked was told it was full and there is only the Wilson parking which was about 400 meters down the street when we booked we got the breakfast package which opposite to reception is a restaurant which is run separately it felt like as we were asked if we were staying in the hotel also we told the waiter our room number and that we have the breakfastpackage. Once we we're given a table waiter gave us a restaurant menu with pages of food that we would have to pay extra for and didn't know what the breakfast package included (could of at least been told that what meals were included in the breakfast package) so we had to ask what we could get we had a choice of 2 meals out of about 50.Once we got the meals they tasted subpar. On to the room the room was nice and clean tv was one of the worst hotel TV we had tv2 had no signal and other channels were about 95% signal one other thing is that the wifi is unlimited but the captive portal is a pain

This Hotel is well situated if you like walking (which we do) with some good restaurants and cafes near by. Big, comfortable bed and great shower with plenty of hot water and good pressure. Sadly, there are way more negatives about this hotel than positives. We had to walk past vomit stained carpet (old) to get to our room on the 6th floor (we did mention this at reception and was told that yes, they were aware and thought that the carpet was going to be replaced, at some stage). The tap at the base of the toilet leaked so after filling the cistern, we had to turn this off otherwise we ended up with a puddle on the floor (we also mentioned this to reception but nothing was done). There were what looked like wads of toilet paper stuffed into two holes in the roof above the toilet. The window leaked when closed and left puddles on the sill. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything happening in the adjacent rooms so assume they can hear you. Light poured in under the main door so much so that we had to lay clothes down to darken the room at night. This is a classic case of "you get what you pay for" and I would definitely not stay at Mecure Abel Tasman again.

Room reasonably clean and OK to sleep in but tired and in definite need of a spruce up. Our room was on the 2nd floor so we suffered a bit of street noise especially at night - this might be less of a problem on a higher floor. A lot of noise in the corridor outside the room at night, so inadequate soundproofing. No nets behind curtains on the windows which meant occupants in the hotel opposite could see right in if we wanted some natural light by having the curtains open. The windows themselves were quite dirty. Disappointed that the TV in the room had only terrestrial channels, no Sky. Queen size bed was not really a queen at all but rather two single beds zipped together, which meant there was an annoying dip in the middle. No cutlery at all, and glasses provided were dirty. I suspect the single wine glass provided which I used on my first night and put out for washing was the same one provided the next day as I could still see the lipstick mark I left on it, so the glass was not washed properly. Nowhere to put wet towels so we left them in a heap on the bathroom floor which meant that they did get changed with fresh towels. I don't think I would stay here again.

I'm so disappointed in this hotel we booked for a 3 night stay and not once has anyone serviced the room no clean towels bought to the room we had to go and get them ourselves every day, ran out of toilet paper every day and had to get some ourselves we rang reception and was told it was because they were short staffed. The wifi was the worst iv ever experienced it was like we were back on dial up speed. If I could give the place less than 1 star I would. I will never book a meccure hotel again after this experience. Ran out of coffe tea ect and no liquid soap left in the containers in bathroom.

Stayed in this hotel for two nights as part of my tour of NZ. On arrival it appeared to be 'tired' and facilities were limited. The breakfast was exceptionally poor quality with frozen fruit, cold 'hot' offerings, limited other food and only filter coffee available. I asked for 2 poached eggs and waited 25 mins for this. My bedroom (410) was shabby and run down and had no double glazing. As it overlooked the very busy main road junction outside it was incredibly noisy. There was a bar with an outside terrace across the road which was very busy and this noise penetrated into my room. On the saturday night my fit bit recorded that I had 2hrs 36 mins sleep. All in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is a light sleeper and if you are ask for a room not facing out onto the main road. I also used the laundry facilities. A tiny room under the hotel in the car park....very shabby.

The Mercure Wellington Abel Tasman was a $30 taxi fare from the airport. We arrived at 10.30pm however, check in was easy and we were quickly in our room (613). The room was clean and a good size. The bed was really comfortable and despite being right in the middle of the CBD it was quiet as well - we had a great nights sleep. The hotel is within easy walking distance of many restaurants, bars and local attractions. If you arrive late like we did but need food there is a bar just across the road that was really nice plus Cuba Street is only a short walk away (try Midnight Espresso) or just a bit further on the Birdcage (bar) was open that has a late night Southern Fried Chicken restaurant right next door.

The location was perfect for sightseeing—walking distance from the Cuba Street area, Te Papa museum, the beach, shops and food. Staff were friendly and helpful (even though they didn’t have electrical adapter). Because I stayed for five nights I was given a room on the other side of the construction area, and saved myself the noise from both the construction and the traffic from Dixon Street. The room was nice and big, modern and clean, the bed was really comfortable. Also a large bathroom. Wi-Fi was quick, no problem at all. Breakfast included a moderate variety of food.

On the less pleasant side: First, one of the elevators was out of order and the other one was too slow so guests often used the stairs. Second, rooms are not airconditioned so one has to keep their window open, otherwise there is also bed smell in the room, especially in the summer. Third, not enough staffs to help with arranging/cleaning the rooms. Unless especially asked, at times even after 15:00 my room was not cleaned yet. Last, and importantly, upon arriving at the hotel desk I was asked to sign a paper which stated the hotel will charge me a surcharge of 2% for my payment in a credit card. I was informed this is the custom everywhere but yet I wasn't charged this surcharge in another hotel in Auckland a few days later. In fact, in my travels during the last 40 years I have never been charged such a surcharge for my credit card. Needless to mention, one is not able to start an argument over this issue after traveling from overseas or to look for another place to stay. Be aware to this fact of extra payment upon booking this hotel.

Hi Tzel_Stam, Thank you for the enormous amount of detail that you have appreciated as it is greatly appreciated. We understand your comments about the lift but there is never a good time to to upgrade them. With regards to the 2% surcharge it is common practice in Australia and New Zealand to collect a surcharge to cover the costs which are passed onto us. Regards Jeff

A perfect location for a Wellington visit; unfortunately the hotel is like something you would get in downtown Mogadishu. Amenities in the room are dirty and/or broken. Soundproofing must have been repossessed by the builders, because the porn casting calls across the hall could be heard at full volume all night. Hallways smell of piss.
Shower was busted but usable; staff fall into the "that's a shame" empathy category, moving on to the next sucker and forgetting all about you within seconds because they can do SFA about it and need to finish their next university assignment.
Obviously hoping to get a gig as an emergency accommodation provider, this 'hotel' used to be OK.Avoid unless you don't mind not sleeping. PS City views means block walls. They have a prime location but are catering to the "WTF!", "IDGAF", or ho
ping a rich developer will come and take the prime site off their balance sheet for a massive wedge of cash.

Nice, modern hotel with clean rooms. The breakfast buffet is very basic but adequate. The biggest negative for me is the thin door between rooms that are intended to be connected for families. My room had one of these doors and my neighbors were up all night having a party. Even with ear plugs, I was awakened a few times. I had to dress, knock on their door, and ask them to quiet down. It worked for a while. The hotel should replace these thin doors with solid, soundproof doors like other quality hotels do. Check out your room before you unpack and ask for a non-connecting room if you want to sleep soundly.

The rooms needs a good spruce up. The shower was so small that the door opened onto the toilet. The photos sown would be very old as not much is a good as shown. The location is good but quite a little noisy could hear the neighbors on their roof top plus the traffic noise from below. Definitely no fancy trimmings even had to ask for another toilet roll..eek! The staff were friendly enough but not very knowledgeable.no idea of approx how much taxi cost to the airport..would of though that a given for reception in any hotel

Hi, is there any surcharge for requesting a microwave in the room?
New York City, New York4 contributions
Hi, I don't know. Our room had one in it, but am not sure whether that goes for all rooms. Very helpful staff, ask.
Answer from MTurk

Avis Dixon st to the hotel is about 500m, there will be a million taxis around and it should be about $5-7. To get to the ferry terminal, first check which company your ferry is (there are 2 and they leave from different locations), you will need a taxi its 2-4km to the ferry depending which one you're on. While you're there at the hotel, be careful of blood stains on the pillows and linen, see me review. Hopefully they have improved since then.

Hi Steve, Sorry I did not fully remember about the parking fee. As I remember it cost about $25 per night. But again, I am not so sure. Maybe you should check to the hotel by calling or emailing them.
