Had a great couple of nights at the Sofitel. The service from the staff was great, the room comfortable and clean and also in a great location close to Lambton Quay and the Beehive,
Have to mention the weekend concierge in particular who went out of his way to speak to us and was proactive and super helpful in making sure we had all the information we needed.
We had evening drinks in the bar, dinner on one night and breakfast on both mornings, Again the service was great, helpful staff offered to book taxis for us to get to various places in advance of us asking, Both dinner and breakfast were good value for money with coffees made to order included in the breakfast price.
Would definitely recommend and stay again,

Bonjour Kia ora NZTraveller20 , firstly and mostly, thank you, nga mihi, merci for your kind words of encouragement and recognition of the high value touchpoints in our guest experience journey. I’m proud of our team and their ability to exceed expectations, especially our concierge team and Ill be sure they know of your very generous praise. You also had a range of experiences in our F&B offerings, the bar and our Jardin Grill, again merci for praising our heartists. Im really proud of our F&B team, especially as we head into Wellington on a Plate and having just had our market leading Michelin degustation night last weekend. I hope we get the chance to entertain you on one of these special calendar events in the future. Thank you again for recognising our people and our care. This was my 2nd stay at the Sofitel Wellington and first time taking advantage of the Jarden Grill restaurant for dinner. The menu was excellent and all the dishes we ordered in the 3 course set price menu were delicious.
We also had the breakfast the following morning and I really like how the buffet has been replaced with a menu to order your cooked option. You can still go up for continental options, but it felt much more sensible to limit people sharing an mingling in a common space. Much less wastage too which is nice. And buffet scrambled eggs are always a bit hit and miss. Ordering them made fresh is much better.
The hotel is located near to the motorway and we were heading out of town the following day so that was convenient. We didn't use the valet parking as we arrived at 4pm so used street parking which is paid until 6pm (or 8pm depending on the day). You can pay by cc for parking and it's $4.50/hour plus a 50c transaction fee. Parking charges start again at 8am.

Ambience
Ambience at Sofitel Wellington exudes an elegant sophistication befitting of modern luxury. The combination of natural light, marble floor tiles, black panelled walls, and plush lounge chairs in cream, brown, and green, appear attractive and comfortable. The open reception appears welcoming and accessible, though the corridors are dark and narrow.

Room
Rooms at Sofitel Wellington are clean, comfortable, and cozy. I stayed at the Superior Room, which features the signature Sofitel 'MyBed', designed to elevate sleep to luxurious heights with its exceptional comfort. The modern bathroom with rain shower, resplendent with white marble and gold lamp finishes, is stocked with French amenities. The in-room wifi is fast and stable, but the smart cable television only has a small amount of channels, though the Bose sound system has good clarity.

Food
Food at Sofitel Wellington is served at the French restaurant Jardin Grill. The kitchen takes pride in serving well-executed, exquisite dishes, everything I had here was excellent. Ingredients are fresh, and dishes made to order with just a short wait. The limited seating means the restaurant tends to be fully booked, and advance reservations are recommended.

Service
Service at Sofitel Wellington is professional and efficient, attentive and welcoming. Guests are promptly accorded attention, with tasks carried out quickly. Housekeeping is hardworking and keeps the place clean. Kudos to Yu Ting and Christian for being so accomodating with requests, and for making each interaction pleasant!

Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at Sofitel Wellington is generally pitched at business travellers, with good meeting room facilities and equipment, and plenty of foyer space for networking. Their location in the city centre helps as well, as does the business-esque French dining at the restaurant. Noticed plenty of meetings going on here. Also love how their location is within 30 minutes or less walking distance from the majority of attractions in Wellington.

Property is nice because it is new, and conveniently located. The room layout feels dark and small. The location of the Gym was very awkward because you had to walk through the lobby then into the restaurant to access, so you are forced to show everyone your daggy gym clothes and sweaty body.

The service was poor, almost stingy in fact. The tea bags in the morning were not refilled, complimentary welcome drinks you had to ask for and not automatically provided. You had to call to remind house keeping to bring the extra towels and toiletries that you asked for. Members discounts on food were not automatically calculated.

I wrote a review to management and now it has been almost 2 weeks but received no response.

We stayed in a King Room at the Sofitel Wellington and the room itself was lovely, great bed and linen and Balmain amenities in the bathroom. The reception and bar area were also nicely furnished. What really lets the hotel down is the inconsistent levels of service.

The man who handled my check-in was rude and aloof, he couldn’t find my reservation and telling me we must have booked it wrong, only to discover my first name had been inputted as my surname which came across as my fault. In my experience of most hotels, they take your ID so they can discretely look you up in their system rather than having you have to repeatedly tell them your name, he did not do this. The bar staff were great, we ordered champagne and they were really engaging with us.

The lowlight of our stay was breakfast the next day, the breakfast team are completely under-staffed with only 2 waiters and 2 chefs, the waiters are running around like headless chickens and there just seemed to be no order to the service or manager to give direction. Given it was Easter Weekend you would have thought they would have been better prepared for a busy service. We were told as they seated us the hot food will take time as there were a lot of orders, which we said was fine. Anyway, 1.5hrs later we still had not received our cooked breakfast, the continental buffet was not being replenished, and people that came in after us were now receiving their food so we upped and left. They either need to hire more people for the breakfast service or switch to a hot buffet as the current situation is not working and is not 5 star by any stretch of the imagination and I can’t imagine it would be up to Sofitel service standards. They wiped the breakfast charge at check out and the lady who checked us out was very apologetic and professional.

Overall the room and decor of the hotel were 5 star but the service was lacking and more like a 3 star hotel.

Shopping weekend in town for a special birthday occasion. Highly recommended will stay again.

In the lead up I had a number of questions, staff were attentive and courteous to all my enquires.

On arrival at airport we chose Sofitel driver to transfer us to the hotel. Oscar was polite, upbeat, knowledgeable and very sweet. Taking the time to drive around the coast it was a highlight of our arrival to have this personalised service.

At hotel, Arush greeted us and during our stay he went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. Special touches in our room to commemorate the birthday weekend, delivering toiletries that we needed, carrying bags - and after checking out and waiting for our return taxi to the airport, offering us the opportunity to shower and freshen up before our flight home. Unexpected but so welcome after a hot day.

Room was quiet, perfectly furnished, home comforts and exceptionally clean. All staff were approachable and friendly. 5 stars, couldn’t fault our stay, just beautiful. Thank you Sofitel Wellington!

Well appointed hotel with everything you need for a Wellington stay. Located in Bolton Street location is good and for those who like to explore a city on foot it’s ideal. 10 min walk to Cuba Street, 5 mins to Lampton Quay and a few mins to the Beehive. Rooms are well appointed with super comfortable bed and pillows 10/10, on wall tv and robes/slippers. Enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the Jardin Grill which was a very stress free, easy going way to have a weekend break

We stayed for our anniversary Staycation.

The hotel is near the parliament, a little distance from many eateries and cafes area.

The Room was spacious and clean. No bathtub for classic & superior room.

Room is equipped with standard bath room amenities. We requested dental kit.
There are in-room slippers, bathrobes, coffee & tea making facilities.
Bottled water is available on request but not provided by default.

There is pretty compact gym at G floor. No swimming pool.

Back in April 2022 we stayed at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour which unfortunately was a less than five star wxperience. At the time we mentioned that we were going to stay at the Sofitel Wellington and it would be an interesting comparison.

The Sofitel ellington is a classy hotel with speedy and friendly check in at the side of a comfortable lounge area. The room, although not large was very comfortable with a king bed, a TV which was positioned so that you could sit and watch it. The room was clean, nicely decorated and well maintained. The bathroom had all the necessary amenities

Breakfast was served in the Jardin Grill and was a combination of buffet style and cooked to order. All nicely presented and cooked to perfection. In the evening after drinks at the stylish house bar we had dinner at the Jardin Grill which was very enjoyable.

We enjoyed our stay and it was no contest the Sofitel Wellington is the winner by far.

Having been to many hotels in Wellington I decided to book at the Sofitel from my good experiences abroad and in Auckland. On the positive, there was an error with the pricing of my booking and this was quickly amended. Also, the gym is well equipped and accesible 24/7. The bed was also comfortable.

Onto the reason why I rated poor. The room is one of the smallest I have been in for the same price elsewhere. Very minimal in all ways. One of my main frustrations as a business travel is the lack of 'flat' surfaces to place items on. The main table in the room was the size of a very small coffee table and round with one chair. Hardly any space to place my laptop and a cup of coffee. The plug points were 2m away from the table. No plug sockets and bedside table level, no streaming services on TV, mimimal facitiles (just a kettle).

To summarise, for the price, you can do much, much better in Wellington. I certainly won't return. There are many more options that provide more services at a lower price point.

Bonjour Kia ora CharlesB3799 , firstly thank you, merci, nga mihi for taking the time to provide feedback to ourselves and the wider community who read these ratings and make decisions based on them. Firstly you have been very generous with us in your review, offering positive and negative experiences. Im grateful you wrote about the positive hardware experiance with our Sofit gym and the Sofitel Mybed in our room. Mostly though Im sorry we put you in to the wrong type of room for your stay type. The rooms you stayed in have had constant poor feedback from business travellers about workspace, so this isnt new to us. I am at this moment working on a capital request to address this issue in these rooms, but we could have been smarter about allocating rooms, especially when we can see and follow travellers who stay with other Accor hotels and "guess" their profile to make a better stay. The rooms you are talking about are less than 20% of our inventory, I agree they arent designed for business travellers, and given 80% of our rooms are, neither are we. We failed in this point and you have rightly represented that failure on your score CharlesB3799. Im sorry for this sir, I will be sure to update your history to make sure, should you return, we do this better and smarter in future. Merci, nga mihi for your time and courtesy CharlesB3799, Raymond Faulkner, GM
