We stayed for a night on our way to another location. Lovely old world feel with beautifully dressed rooms. Boutique experience provided something a little different from other hotels. The bed was next level comfortable. Will definitely return.
We always love staying in the Wellesley. The rooms have always been impeccably dressed with every little, amazing detail taken care of (including the little triangle fold on the toilet paper roll!). The old world feel with the modern comfort of AC/heat pump has pretty much cemented the hotel as our favorite place to say in Wellington. Affordable luxury.
Room was clean, central location, had everything you needed and at excellent rates. Staff accommodating. The waterfront is easily accessible where there are some fantastic bars and restaurants to try out.
Stayed 4 nights in a luxury room. There is an ambience of a grand history, but the room is modern and well appointed. The bed is very comfortable, and the bedroom +suite is large, with room to sit and relax. The bathroom is enormous with dual vanities, and an enormous shower, big enough for a rugby team, and having two shower heads! There is a sea view and the hotel is right in the middle of the CBD, and only 5 minutes walk to sea-port restaurants. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant.
Don’t eat there! A group of 21 of us went for a set Xmas lunch with a main and dessert with three options for both courses at a set price of $50. My main which supposedly was turkey, couscous, beetroot, jus and a sauce. What happened to the sauce and jus was anybody’s guess - the beetroot was a dried-up smear and the turkey was very dry. The waitress said she would get us some gravy which arrived when most of us had finished our partial meals. We tasted the “gravy” which was a very pale beige colour and was a new taste experience; certainly not gravy as we knew it! The dessert (soused cherries, lemon curd and rainbow cake) was awful, both in taste and presentation. Another main, the lamb, was mostly fat and the cheesecake dessert was partially frozen with a base that needed a sledgehammer to break it. Most of us complained and were given a complimentary tea or coffee with a promise of an explanatory email - which arrived and basically ignored our complaints and blamed our group for being troublemakers. Can honestly say the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant. Had to give a rating of one but would like to make it a minus!…
