Detailed Reviews
We stayed at this hotel for four nights on a business trip. It is ideally located for the CBD with nearby eateries, shops, venues and business.
On entering the foyer we were welcomed by front of desk staff who were able to give us an early check in for the suite we had booked.
The suite was spacious and had everything we required for the duration of the stay.
However the room did look like it could do with a redecoration and the paint work looked dull and tired, also the grouting in the bathroom was definately needing a refresh in places.
The hotel rooms were nice and quiet, no noise coming from within the hotel to disturb us, however the suite faced out towards another business, and though it did benefit from not overlooking a road and road noise, it was in close proximity to the Pickle and Pie eatery opposite, whom played their music loudly outside, no problem except for when they played music from 4.30am or thereabouts onwards til closure, which meant disturbed sleep.
In regards to this, I did ask if another suite was available, but apparently not one that was any quieter, however the front of house staff member was proactive in giving some solutions, and said she would have a word with the offending business.
The suite was cleaned daily to a good standard and the cleaners were very efficient in doing a morning clean and quickly.
None the less we are uncertain we would stay here again on our regular business trips, as undisturbed sleep is an important factor and though we found the hotel itself to be quiet, unfortunately it is let down by the neighbouring business.
I cannot say if there are any quieter suites, there apparently was none available at the time of our stay.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your detailed review. It is great to hear that you enjoyed our central location and we appreciate your feedback, all of your comments help us to improve. In regard to the noise disturbance from the neighbouring eatery, Pickle & Pie, we are very sorry that their music was played loudly from 4.30am and therefore affected your sleep. We continue to try our best to communicate with Pickle & Pie about noise disturbance to our guests. Unfortunately, we cannot control the actions of other businesses in our area. Sorry we had no other alternative suite available; our suites are located at the back of the hotel on Bond Street. However, if in the future, you did decide to return to the West Plaza Hotel we could offer a standard queen room toward the front of the hotel. Thanks again for leaving your feedback, we appreciate it and hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the future.

Unsure how this hotel got its 4 star rating but certainly the most budget 4 star hotel I have stayed in.
Staff were very welcoming on arrival and there was easy parking across the road (normal carparks with the hotel are $25 night but it was full). We had a twin room for us and our son which was $155. So you get what you pay for I guess (with parking would have been $180). Room was very clean. Older fittings - I.e. formica in the bathroom; screws showing: no aircon in lieu of a fan and heater; standing TV. And the bed was hard with hard flat pillows and comforter.
Again, very clean and great central location, just baffled it's a 4 star.

Stayed two nights, it’s central, close to restaurants etc. Caught the bus from the airport as well, stops close to the hotel, maybe 10-15mins walk, and is a lot cheaper than a taxi. Didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the food.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel, in a central location with easy access to the city and quayside activities, bars and restaurants this hotel is a good choice.
We stayed bed and breakfast for 6 nights. The accommodation is clean and tidy and the showers hot. Linens are changed as requested or as necessary. Our room and bed were comfortable.
We found the staff to be polite, helpful and friendly.
We did not have an evening meal, but a good self service breakfast buffet serving hot and cold choices is available.
A good choice for us as part of our tour of NZ visiting from the UK. Thank you.

The location and price are good.
The hotel is close to the Cuba area and the water front.
The service was OK.
The room was clean and a reasonable size.
The bed was uncomfortable - soft and moved a lot. Pillows were quite hard. We didn't get a good sleep for 3 nights.
No aircon - there is a panel heater on the wall for the winter and a desk fan for the summer.

I arrived at a little after 2pm. I had asked for an early check in but that was refused, so 2pm was the earliest time you could check in and be assured that all the rooms are ready. The uppity young thing who served me, told me there was a problem with my room and I'd have to wait. I didn't believe this as all rooms are cleaned by 2pm. She just was discriminating against me as a single middle aged part Maori woman. I am outraged, I had paid one night in advance. She said just sit down there, until we're ready. I said no, I have booked a standard room, there must be rooms of that sort ready. Every male customer who came to the desk got a smile and their key. This girl needs retraining - she should not be judging people on their age, gender and race. This is appalling in N.Z.s capital, what about people who are gender diverse, will she refuse them a room? This hotel should not employ ignorant little girls to sit in judgment on the public. HORRIFIED - 2km from N.Z.s seat of government where we embrace all people regardless of age, race, gender etc

Thank you for taking the time to leave your reviews both online and written on our guest feedback form. We are very sorry to hear your experience was not as it should have been. We apologise that your room was not ready at the standard check-in time of 2pm. Unfortunately, your allocated room was released later than it should have been and this was our error. When it was brought to the Manager's attention, she changed your room allocation to check in immediately. We are extremely sorry to hear that the receptionist was not friendly or respectful, and you felt unwelcome at the hotel. Your feedback is important and will be passed on to our Front Office Team in order to review procedures and make improvements. Once again, I am very sorry to hear how the situation made you feel, please know that this was never our intention and we pride ourselves on having staff that deliver great customer service and are a part of an inclusive and diverse workplace, embracing people of all genders, race, and ages. We would have reached out to you personally via email before now. However, you selected that you did not want a response on your feedback form. We have now sent a personal email to the address provided to respond in more detail to your feedback. If you would like to discuss this further please do contact information@westplaza.co.nz

We were transferred to West Plaza because our original hotel is now a quarantine hotel, & I couldn't be more pleased. We didn't have much time in Wellington so with West Plaza being so central, it was great. We could easily walk around one corner to Courtenay Place, and in the other direction walk easily to Lambton Quay. Our room on the top (5th) floor was plenty big enough, comfortable bed & pillows, well equipped bathroom. The heat pump location isn't ideal, as most of the heat disappears up into the curtains, which just finish above it but we hitched the curtains up. Overall, a great stay & would definitely go back.

You get what you pay for. $125 for the centre of town in between Lambton Quay and Courtney Place is good value. As a hotel it was clean but pretty budget. The bed was average, the shower was below average with no pressure at all, the bathroom had no toilet brush which would have been nice after a big night out... The guy at reception couldn't help me out with the conditions of the street parking directly outside saying to me "we are not affiliated with the streets..." , although the girl the next day was very nice about us being 10mins late checking out. 3 stars.

Continental Breakfast was a lovely mixture of pastries, scones, cereals and fruit. A lovely selection of breakfast fruits!
Parking was outside the hotel at the nearby parking building. The hotel was able to accommodate some e-bikes in locked storage which we were most grateful for.
Rooms were satisfactory in all areas - bathroom, bed and tea, coffee.
The location for our weekend activities was outstanding as we talked the waterfront, attended theatre, did a parliamentary tour and other attractions like cable car and botanical gardens. An easy walk to all areas.

We, 3 people, stayed here for 3 nights and our stay was ok. The bed was NOT comfortable so our sleep value was poor. The room itself would be fine for 2 people but we felt a bit cramped with 3 of us in it. The location is good, walking distance to lots of touristy places as well as lots of yummy restaurants (as well as McDonalds). The car parking was a bit of an issue, but we managed to work around it.
Overall, we would stay again with a different room selection.
