The Waterloo hotel/backpackers needs a lot of work indeed to come up to any acceptable level. I have stayed here for a week and found the staff at the front desk disgracefully unfriendly - even rude at times without any signs of proper training in customer service. Not a single smile from any of them nor friendly greeting and at...

If u need to take a train to north or a ferry to south island this is the best hostel for you! Conveniently located just opposite the NorthernExplorer train station. Clean but small room with hig kitchen fully equipped. However price for the rooms are not that cheap for a backackers hostel.

we stayed 3 nights and room was OK ,clean ,comfortable and quite.the lounge area is very nice and restaurant \ kitchen are fine the only downside is the whole place needs some restorations. The good side is location (across st. from train station) and having friendly staff .As cost was part of our decision to stay here, we made a good...

I stayed here for 2 nights and although it was nice to have an ensuite and a big kitchen and dining area (with a cafe to buy food), this hostel needs some work/improvements. Although the oldness of the building is perhaps part of its charm, it could use a renovation. Firstly, just a small detail, the elevator buttons have really...

Stayed for three nights. The hostel itself is quite dated however for the price I think you get what you pay for. Massive kitchen and cafe where you can eat your food. You can also take your food into the bar area where there is free pool and cheap drinks. That opens at 4. Staff were really friendly and made...

The only reason I would stay here is the location. The kitchen is OK, probably can get the equipment u might need. Staff are not as friendly as I expected. Rooms are not clean, especially the bathroom. But if u only stay here for the transport. That's fine.

The standard of hostel in NZ is usually very high however this hostel is a little tired and could do with a refit and a clean. Just small things like musty smells and out of date furnishing. But given the price and location I guess you get what you pay for.

Site says free cancellation. Made a booking, cancelled it by ringing because i couldn't get through to booking.com. got charged $200 for a no show, i than rang the hotel again and explained what had happened they said they dont do cancellations and that it was some third party policy with booking.com and to take my concern to booking.com. I...

I don't know if the thermostat was broken or not but I found the room unbearably hot. Also the window overlooked an office building so you couldn't leave the curtains open if you wanted privacy. Also because it was so hot if you left the window open there was a lot of noise 24 hours a day. You get what...

Our double room with shared ensuite was fantastic - warm, despite the cold wet weather outside, lots of high pressure hot water in the shower, nice tidy modern bathroom, spacious bedroom, and even though we're right in the city, it was quiet enough to get a good sleep. Comfy bed, pleasant accommodations. And love the 24hr check in desk :)

Thank Jess X
