Detailed Reviews
Right in the heart of Wellington City, this is a great place to stay for business, find a cafe or shopping. The rooms are modern and function, although looking a bit bare from the de-cluttering and removal of frequently touched items, such as room service menus. The dinner menu has been severely trimmed down, which id expected under the circumstances but a bit of variety for those staying more than a night or two would have been great (e.g. chicken burger instead of a beef burger one night?). I was there a week. As an Accor Plus / ALL Member though I was disappointed that the loyalty membership welcome, personal welcome note in the room and bottled water had gone too. It's these little touches, that seem to cost very little other than a bit of though and planning, that make you feel like very valued loyalty club member.

Hello Ontheroadagain023, Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay here at the Novotel Wellington. I am glad that you found our hotel pleasant and convenient as many of our guests do. Your comments regarding our menu are very constructive and I will ensure to pass them on to our kitchen to evaluate how to rotate these changes into our current model. In regards to the items in the room, you are correct that in-line with our new ALLSafe initiative, many of the items in the rooms have been removed keeping in mind the health and safety of all guests that stay with us. I understand that this may have negatively impacted your stay as an Accor Plus member and I encourage you to reach out to the hotel so that I might address your situation directly. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay overall and we welcome you back at any time in the future. Peter Johnson Front Office Manager

Chose the Novotel after doing much research of hotels in Wellington. We booked 3 nights in a superior king room. Parking is valet for $35/day at the hotel or you have the option of $25/day self parking in a public parkade next door. We chose self parking and it was good. The location is convenient as the hotel elevator takes you down to Lambton Quay. Check in was peculiar, as we had booked one booking for 3 nights but our reservation ‘apparently’ showed 2 nights and 1 night. This has never happened before when booking a hotel. Our room was very nice, a good size and was clean. The room was next to the elevators however it was a quiet room. The wi fi signal was excellent, the TV large however it did not swivel toward the bed. Surprisingly, the mattress was very worn and soft and desperately needs replacing. I was surprised to find a bed like this in a Novotel. The pillows were stained, the pillow covers didn’t zipper and overall the pillows were awful. Sleeping is the most important aspect of booking a room and this was disappointing. Reading other reviews, the mattress and pillows may only be a problem in room #205 (??) - others seemed to have a good mattress and pillows. In addition, our room safe would not work on two occasions and the front desk had to be called. I also think maintenance is required on the room safe in room #205. It was inconvenient calling the front desk for someone to come and unlock the safe. Overall we were surprised by the Novotel and our stay wasn’t as good as we hoped for.

First time staying at Novotel Wellington and found the place a little bit dated (especially the rooms), and the rooms were smaller than usual like at other more modern Novotels. Some rooms by the elevators would be noisy and at times when the tour buses were there it was hard to get into the lifts or near the lobby! The breakfasts we had were very nice with the chefs cooking fresh eggs to order. The only downside I found with this Novotel was the dinning area is way to small to accommodate tour partys and then the normal hotel guests. You had to wait for tables to be cleared, food to be re-filled and plates/cups cutlery to be washed!! Overall a decent hotel but others in the Accor range I feel are better!

Novotel Wellington is a very good hotel with great amenities situated centrally on the Terrace within easy location to the waterfront, the cable car and stadium and central shopping amenities on Lambton Quay. Their is very limited parking but access to a parking lot next door is handy. Not much of a view even though we were located on the 10th floor, just overlooking the Terrace and similarly sized buildings surrounding. Staff were great, rooms were clean and food was good. I would say I only had a problem with the cost, so booking in advance (except for events) is not the best option as the rates were significantly lower during our stay. The duty manager did his best to help out within his limited power given the massive difference.

Stayed in a double room, beds were extremely soft, it felt like we were sleeping downhill. Room wasn't made up on our second day, asked at reception for it to be made up but no chance. Called to ask for clean towels which arrived promptly. Restauant food was good, wait staff were very inexperienced, lots of apologies for delays but no explanation why our meals were so delayed. Didnt know which menu they should be using, asked for a glass of cab sav (only one listed) came and asked which one then bought out a white wine. At least we were not charged for it.

Firstly the pro's. This is an older style hotel close to a lot of attractions, the Hotel is mostly clean, Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and in our case they really tried to be helpful. Unfortunately at this hotel the beds are as old as the hotel. We were given room 903 and the beds in this room were so old you sank in then even to the point of feeling the slats on the base. As I have a bad back I asked if there was a better room and was told all the mattresses were the same. I was offered a board to put between the mattress and the base which I accepted. When the board arrived it looked to be an old desktop which they placed under the mattress but it only covered a bit over half the bed which had my husband sleeping the night with a board sticking in his back and feeling like he was falling out of bed as my side was higher. As we were booked at this hotel for three nights and the room was non refundable I went to front desk the next morning and again asked for a better room. I was told all beds were old in hotel but they moved us to a room that they said the beds were less worn, so we then checked into room 116 which did have slightly better beds and we could feel springs at the sides which the other mattresses did not have , so I gather they were completely collapsed in the previous room. On going to bed that night we lay down to find from the waist down the springs were collapsed hear too and we felt like we were hanging. We got the spare pillows and lifted the mattress and placed them in-between to lift the mattress up so we could lay in the bed. I have never in all my travels had such a bad experience. To the owners of this hotel you need to sleep in these beds for three days as we had too and realise just how unacceptable these beds are. For this experience we were charged $627.00 for the three nights. To Accor as a chain, you must have some sort of quality assurance that can be acted on as no Guest should have to endure this experience.

having just stayed 16days I look forward to returning soon. The staff were all so polite and accomodating nothing seemed to be a problem. I made sure I sampled their breakfast, lunch and dinner including happy hour and was pleasantly surprised with the Russian mule cocktail. The rooms were tastefully decorated except I must admit I am not a fan of the curtains but they Smelt clean and looked clean. The location was perfect I spent as much time wandering between parliament, botanic gardens, museum including Te papa and where I could not walk I took a elevator down to lambton quay and hopped aboard. Also having other cafes, restaurants so close meant so much variety. All the staff cleaners, cook, restaurant staff , front of house coordinators really were a pleasure to deal with.

The room was great and to the standard you would expect from a large chain hotel. The inland side of Lampton Quay location is central without being on the waterfront.
The reception staff were friendly and efficient making check in and check out easy. Big bed, good shower, tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

We have stayed at the Novotel in Wellington many times. The location is great, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The dinner food in the restaurant suits us (from the all day menu, which you have to ask for at dinner time). The breakfast is pretty good too, though we only have it if we can get it included in a price package, as we do not feel it is value for money unless you are used to eating a large breakfast.
Price had increased dramatically between our last two visits.
However we have detected a deterioration in service on recent visits. Little niggles like - having to wait to check-in because there is no-one at the front desk on arrival, as Accor Plus members only being given one drink voucher when there should be two, late (after 4pm) servicing of the rooms, invoice on checkout wrong because they hadn't accounted for the Accor points I said I would use when I booked, grumpy waitress reluctant to take a dinner booking.
We like to feel a bit spoiled when we stay in a hotel, but we didn't feel well looked after on our last visit.
Despite the niggles, the Novotel remains our favourite hotel in Wellington and we will be back. I would just like to see the service improve, please.

No unfortunately.
Valet parking is $30 a night self parking at $20 a night. We used valet parking and ended up with a scratch. Parking is a real issue even when you're checking out.
