On the positive side, the staff are very friendly! But, when we went in to have lunch there was no one around, after 5 minutes we ended up going up to the kitchen and knocking on the door to get some ones attention. The evening meal of fish and chips was very average to say the least, think for $28 it would have been a nice fish, not cheap what ever it was! And as for the boxed breakfast (no smorgasbord under current covid levels) it was cold and just yuk! The rooms are getting tired and in need of attention, the air con is useless, the walls are all marked and the curtains could do with a dry clean. Went to have a swim in the thermal pool, if was cold and there were kids dive bombing, throwing balls....not a relaxing experience. Not the Wairakei we have experienced in the past

Hotel's Favourite
We have just returned from a faultless stay at the Wairakei Resort Hotel. Room, breakfast and dinner over two nights was exceptional and unbeatable value for money. The grounds were immaculate as was the 9 hole golf course. Great mountain bike tracks onsite and also in nearby Taupo. This hotel has done a wonderful job post Level 4 Covid lockdown and is encouraging kiwis to return to the hotel with exceptional pricing and marketing. Hence the hotel was at capacity with a range a ages and young families enjoying the facilities. Keep up the great work team, you are leading by example.

We booked two rooms between Christmas and New Year to enjoy 3-4 days with our parents. Unfortunately, the amenities advertised such as the Tennis Court were in a bad state. The astroturf on both courts is ripped at the serving line and a major risk to all players. But the resort still provides racquets and balls, and a disclaimer notice on the fence you play at your own risk. These courts could easily be glued and repaired and should be closed until such time as they are in a fit state. We also had a dreadful and expensive ‘brown bag breakfast’ that cost $56 for two people. With the restaurant unable to offer the usual breakfast buffet, guests need to order breakfast to be delivered. The bacon and egg muffin was cold, squashed and inedible with the runny yoke having dripped all through the fresh fruit salad. We didn’t bother for any further breakfasts and ate outside the resort. While we appreciate that this resort is older and the grounds are beautifully maintained - the location and setting isn’t enough for $330 per night with tired decor, dangerous activities and poorly executed breakfast options. This resort does need investment to bring it back to its former four star glory or reduce its prices and advertising ambition back to an average accommodation and conference centre so expectations are met.

Stayed one night on way up north. Phoned to book and got a good deal which included breakfast. On arrival, easy check in, told we had been upgraded which was nice. Room was a villa so able to park motorcycle outside door. Room was nice, had everything we needed but probably could do with a freshen up now. Went to the pool and had a lovely swim, bit disappointed to be told we had to pay for pool towels ??? We have been club members for years, this was not what we expected, however, the swim was good. Went to the garden bar, had some garlic bread, wings and fries - all were very good and the service was great. Went to the buffet breakfast which had a very good selection. Probably only downside was there didn't appear to be any enforcement of mask wearing , and when a maskless guest coughed whilst selecting his food we were not impressed. Overall though , a lovely stay and we still recommend this as a great place to stay although they may need to review prices to reflect that it appears well overdue for much needed maintenance and freshen up. Thanks.

Stayed for 2 separate days and enjoyed our stay! The staff are friendly and accomodating. We arrived early and were able to check in earlier. Several amenities available to access and enjoyed the pool, play area and the breakfast. Missed out on the open spa pool as these were not available at that time! The rooms were clean and we missed the balcony we did not have on our 2nd day stay. Otherwise the kids loved staying in the resort!
