Took a chance and dropped in one night to be near Mount Taranaki. What we found was a large, warm, cozy lodge complete with fire place. I was with 2 other friends and on a cold night, we chose to take the upstairs room. Probably the noisiest (though it didn't bother us at all) since it was directly above the...

We paid for a private room which happened to be en-suite so that made a nice change from the previous shared facilities! When we arrived the lodge was open but not a soul about for check-in. We had to drive into the nearest town to kill a few hours. The owners were frustratingly laid back which may suit some, but...

7 of us were pre-booked in for a 2 night stay, following a fairly tough 3 day hike. Arriving tired, grubby and no doubt smelly, we were immediately made to feel welcome, were offered free use of towels if needed, and a choice of the rooms available. Suggestions were made as to the quietest rooms - a busy highway runs...
