I'm being generous in rating this at three stars. The facilities are decent, especially the kitchen which has plenty of room for many people to cook. There is also a little cafe and bar on property (although they ask you not to bring your own liquor on property...sure...). And the staff is friendly. However, the rooms in the motel block...

We booked a double room for ourselves and our friend had a dorm room. Place was pretty quiet at the time of our stay which we enjoyed. Although the inn is slightly out from the cbd it's nothing a five minute jaunt across the fields out back won't fix . Staff were friendly . Bar was never open , or...

We booked here as everywhere else was full for the day we wanted to travel. The Backyard Inn just enough rooms available for us. We got 2x triple rooms The good: Only cost $90 per night for a triple room. As we booked 2x of these, it was only $180 total which is great value. The location is easy to...

We wanted budget accommodation, so booked into a backpackers which I regularly do... this was a very small room.... not a problem in itself, but the linen was so old that it was threadbare in places and the duvet inner was more suited for a dog kennel and the cover not much better.... we had dinner one night at the...

Firstly, you can't go wrong with free parking, ever! Room was basic but all we needed as a base to do Rotorua activities. Shared kitchen and bathroom facilities were good but can imagine in the peak season would get a bit crowded. Outdoor geothermal pool was a highlight however! Close to the free geothermal sites at Kuirau Park, but a...

I stayed 2 non-consecutive nights in a 4 bed share coed. Because it was the off season, I had the whole room to myself. Just picked the most comfortable bed. Shower and bathroom down the hall is clean with lots of hot water. There is also a kitchen and commons area to meet and mingle. AND a geothermal heated pool....

I was travelling solo around NZ and booked backyard because it was so cheap. May be cheap but the rooms were lovely. I was given a 4 bed room to myself for the 3 nights I was there and it was lovely. Heating is fantastic so never once felt cold! The bathrooms could do with an upgrade but were satisfactory....

Thanks so much for your feedback and my apologies for the noisy kids - we are going to make changes so that group leaders take more responsibility for their teams but unfortunately there were lots of tournaments on that week. Safe travels, Thanks Treen

The backyard in is a fine hostel but nothing extraordinary. We stayed in a twin room for 22 dollar/night which I think is pretty cheap. The rooms are small but warm and the beds are cosy. The hostel has a okay kitchen with everything you need (except an oven) and it is nice and clean. Wi-Fi will cost you 5...

We were put onto the Backyard Inn early, saying they were very good for school groups. We were not disappointed, with ALL the team there making us feel welcome and assisting when a tour let us down. Accommodation and amenities for a backpackers was just fine, and they provided the adults with single rooms which was a bonus. The boys...
