We spent two nights here while in Rotarua in a room with a balcony and hot tub. We didn't realize when we booked that this is more of an "extended stay" rental vs. a hotel, so be advised there are no amenities. The room was large, clean, and comfortable, but really bare bones. That said, it's within walking distance of all the restaurants and there's a Starbucks on the corner. Street parking is free from 5p-9a.

Good location, most of the staff were helpful, most of the amenities and systems worked; HOWEVER, our room was on the west side of the building and got the brunt of the afternoon sun, baking onto the expansive glass outer wall. The gentleman at the desk that checked us in for our 5 night stay, gave us a second key so that we could leave one in the "electrical ON" slot to run the A/C while we were out and about so that the afternoon heat didn't over power the A/C. The first three nights were cool enough, though the A/C struggled mightily to keep up. The fourth day was going to be the start of a warmer weather spell. We left the A/C and the curtains closed, just as we had the first 3 days. When we returned that afternoon, the second key was still in the switch slot, but the A/C had been turned off and the curtains had been drawn back all the way...the room was sweltering. I immediately turned the A/C back on and closed the curtains. The A/C was blowing, but no cold air. I waited a bit to see it it would kick in, but it never did. I called the desk to ask if there had been a brown-out in the building. The woman who answered, immediately took a defensive stance and told me the A/C unit was working fine...her panel said so. When I told her that the panel was not representing the actual situation in our room, she tried to blame it on us for changing the temperature setting a couple of times since we got back. I explained to her that we did that to see if it would make any difference, it didn't, then I returned it to the regular setting, waited...still no change, and then I called her. She insisted that it was working fine...it wasn't. She eventually offered a fan and I told her that since she had also said to give it more time, I'd call her back in a bit to tell how it was going. The unit didn't start to function, so I went down to the desk to collect the fan...it was closed. The next morning, I went back to the desk to ask for a different room, she told me that they were fully booked and it was the fan or nothing...I took the fan. The last two nights were hell. There are better choices out there.

Accommodations were clean, smart, great kitchen set-up, washer/dryer combo was a huge benefit. Our first day was fantastic! Day two, the weather started hitting the low 80's. The first day of hot weather hit 82 degrees. The apartment we were in was cool in the morning, and as we knew it was going to be hot, we closed the curtains upon our departure and turned the A/C to 21 degrees. Upon our return, the A/C was turned off, the curtains were now open, and the apartment was blazing hot. We closed the curtains and turned the AC back on at 20. The AC just didn't do the job. It was sweltering in there all night. The next day we hung the do not disturb sign, closed the curtains, put the A/C at 21, and went out for the day. Upon arriving home, the A/C was blowing warm air. We called the desk and were told that everything was fine, that the A/C was working, and there was nothing they could do about it, and Oh BTW it was a hot day here. (Our first hint of an undersized system that cannot handle a full house on a hot day.) Instead of the room getting cooler, the room got even warmer as the evening went on, and more guests were coming back to their rooms and turning on the A/C . By morning , the room was somewhat cooler, and we repeated the actions of the day before. Again, the room was stifling upon our return. Calling the desk gave us a room fan, but they said that the system was fine, there was nothing to be done, and there were no rooms on the cool side of the building for us to move to. TIPS: 1. Don't stay here in summer. 2. If you stay here, get a room on the street facing front (south), or east facing side of the building. Do NOT stay in a room with western exposure. 3. Do not expect the A/C to blow cold air on a hot day with a nearly fully booked hotel. 4. "System is fine, nothing is wrong" seems to be their attitude. They didn't even come up to see how warm the room was, they didn't check our A/C unit (just the central display for it at their office), and they cannot admit a problem exists, so you can be darn sure they aren't looking for a solution. 5. "Nothing can be done".... Nope they won't be doing anything to solve the issue. So you just have to live with it because they have already accepted defeat, and so should you!

Dear Redcayenne We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed your Executive Studio Apartment with Balcony and hot tub. For the in-room air-conditioning to function, the guest key card needs to be in the power socket. We take every guest concern seriously and would like to let you know what was happening behind the scenes during your stay. As soon as you advised us that your air-conditioning was not functioning to your satisfaction, we were concerned that the coil for the unit that supplies air-conditioning to the floor might have a serious issue. The unit was inspected, revealing no leaks or problems. However, these issues can be challenging to identify, so to further check the system we contacted other guests on your floor to verify the status of their air-conditioning; all advised they were happy, and their air-conditioning was working fine. The system was reset from our master controller and your room was checked in your absence, confirming it was working correctly. Despite the hotel being fully booked during your stay, no other guests reported issues with the air-conditioning. Nevertheless, we arranged for a technician to attend on the morning of your departure to recheck for any issues we may have missed, including a thorough examination of the unit in your apartment. The technician could not find any faults. Kind regards The Quest team

We had a great experience with every staff member we spoke with. Our room was clean. The off street parking option was great. The hotel is close to restaurants, a grocery store and local attractions such as the Polynesian Spa and the Gathering Place. Its proximity to the Rotorua lake means it also has some of the sulphur smell that the lake has. Our room had air fresheners and they even gave me an extra one, which was very kind. Just something to be aware of if you choose to stay here.

Dear Frauminertravels Thank you for sharing your positive experience! We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay. We appreciate your understanding of the occasional sulfur smell in the air, which is a natural occurrence due to the geothermal activity in the area. We're glad the air fresheners helped and hope to welcome you back in the future. Safe travels The Quest team

Great option for a family stay! The apartment has its own fully equipped kitchen; laundry and dry machine; living room and bedroom. All well spaced. The hotel is well located and staff is great! We were able to get our breakfast, and cook small meals, good for a change for KOT always have to go to restaurants.

Dear Corriannea Great to hear our receptionist was helpful during your stay. We're sorry to hear that you found the room a little tight for three people. Our rooms are designed to accommodate two guests, an extra bed was added for your third person as requested. To make the most of the living space the rooms are set out with the extra bed in the bedroom. Being in the heart of the city centre, our location, doesn’t offer views due to the surrounding buildings. However, the silver lining lies in the convenience of strolling to Rotorua's fantastic bars, restaurants, and beautiful geothermal attractions. Kind regards The Quest team

Out of all the places we stayed in multiple cities in New Zealand over several weeks, the Quest Rotorua Central was our favorite. The room was spacious, with a kitchenette furnished with dishes, silverware, knives, pans and more. There was a small dining room table and chairs, a desk, comfy reading chair and the balcony had a hot tub, chairs and a small table and a covering and partial rain shield so it could be comfortably used -- rain or shine. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. Everything was sparkling clean. The location is superb -- close to so many restaurants and shops and just a short walk from fabulous parks with rose gardens and thermal features and from a shopping center. If you're there on a Thursday evening, the weekly Night Market is just a few steps away with great food selections and entertainment. Highly recommend as a great value and great place to stay.

Always book directly with hotel for best deals. Still our favorite hotel. Super clean, well maintained, nicely presented and very quiet. We always book a hot tub room, to soak weary bones after all the activities in Rotorua. Appreciated the push to being sustainable + environmental and supporting local business. Now have shower gels attached to wall and done away with all the disposable plastic tubes. Also toilet roll is locally sourced and had a very small carbon footprint. Good Work. Big thank you to everybody here for making our stay, very relaxing and also very hard to leave. See you Next Year.

Lovely rooms, comfy bed and we had a spa on our balcony. If you have a car be advised that medium and larger cars will not fit in their carpark and you will pay for street side parking. Download the parking app called PrestoPark. The streetwise meters only allow a 3 hour limit.

The location was central, the room was clean, bed was comfortable. Short walk to all the local restaurants. Building is showing it’s age and could do with a refurbishment. My main gripe is the super cheap and super thin toilet paper. Buy decent toilet paper and put the rate up $1 a night. No one would notice the $1 but everyone would appreciate good TP.
