I must admit that we did not book accommodation and upon arriving in Napier on the Easter weekend had no choice but to book into this lovely house. We received the smallest room, and it was small, very hard to navigate around the bed which was ironic, as we told the room was set up for people with disabilities -...

Thank you for the several compliments in your review, we enjoyed having you to stay even though it was only overnight. When you arrived on the Easter weekend I felt very sorry that like many hundreds of other people, you had arrived without any prior booking and were disappointed to find no accommodation available. Napier is a very popular destination...

Unfortunately i had to cancel the stay as there was confusion to when i could check in I specified I would be there between 10-11am, (there are options to state when you would be arriving), only to be told I couldnt check in until 2pm. The place is lovely and they have done a wonderful job to keep it at...

Set on the top of the hill this is a good 30 minute walk from the town centre. We usually prefer to be within walking distance of restaurants but for this place it was worth it. Very spacious and well appointed rooms. Excellent breakfast. We stayed 2 nights but, could have stayed longer, my wife really liked Napier and we...

Thanks for your positive review. It was a pleasure having you to stay and hope to see you again some time in the future. Being on the hill we have spectacular views of the Ocean and Ranges and can see one of the main restaurant areas in Ahurriri from the Lodge but I agree the walk either down the Chaucer...

We stayed at McHardy Lodge for three nights. Situated high on one of the many hills surrounding Napier we had a beautiful view of the city and the water. This historic house has it all - beautiful, comfortable private rooms, a pool, a billiards room and several verandas and sitting areas. Yvonne was a great host. The breakfasts were fantastic...

We spent 6 weeks travelling around New Zealand and McHardy Lodge did not quite come up to the high standards of the other places we stayed, it maybe because we had to order the breakfast the night before, the room was ok but did not live up to the details on the website

I am so sorry that you felt that the room you booked did not live up to the website description - you did not mention this at the time of your visit to allow us to rectify any problem and it is not a comment we have received from any other guest in our nine years of operation or indeed...

We picked a larger room with access to verandah and space to relax. Well worth it. The Venice room even larger and beautiful. Great breakfasts, all cooked by the owner. Communal breakfast tables. Walking distance to both Port and city restaurants but walk back can be tougher up numerous steps. Cab fare only $10. Great views, pool, wrap around verandah...

We enjoyed our stay immensely in this lovely comfortable property. The owner, Yvonne Johnstone, was so welcoming and helpful. Lovely breakfasts. Beautiful views from the dining room. Yvonne helped with booking outings. We would return both to McHardy Lodge, in particular, and Napier, with its Art-Deco style in town and beautiful surrounding fruit growing area anytime we could.

Tucked away up a hill (you'll need directions) with breathtaking views from a charming garden. Lovely room and superb home-cooked breakfast. A real break from big hotel chains. A great base from which to explore the wonderful Art Deco town.

It is good to hear that you enjoyed so much of what McHardy Lodge has to offer. We try to encourage the relaxed and welcoming feeling of what McHardy Lodge was originally - a private summer home of the McHardy family in th 1890s - but with modern amenities. We are in a quiet residential area on Napier Hill only...

Beautiful lodge on a great location at the top of the hill. A room with a view mixed with warm and freindly hospitality. Napier itself was a very positive stop on our 2 week journy from South to North.
