Detailed Reviews
Great place to say. The bus stop is very close, on the Rainbow Bridge.
We arrived in the morning at Haka well before room check in after landing at AKL about 5am.
Haka staff were particularly friendly & helpful. As well as storing our luggage we were permitted to use all guest facilities, including showers, straight away. Much appreciated.
It is an older building but our room looked freshly painted with some walls throughout showing original brickwork.
Friendly guests in kitchen, lounge area.
Had been concerned about negative reviews re noise. The rubbish truck did make some noise at 4am. Just normal city noise, really. Caution though. We were there on weeknights so it might be noisier in the streets on the weekend.
Kitchen and lounge were a bit crowded at times and would benefit from another sitting area. Does have a TV room.
No plugs in kitchen sinks a negative. Equipment in kitchen all clean and in good condition, a positive.
First stay at Haka. Would stay at Haka Auckland again and would seriously consider staying at other Haka hostels in future trips.

We were lucky enough to put our 20 player in the 20 bed dorm over the weekend for a football trip.
The boys enjoyed their time in their pods of 4/6 bunks and we were able to use the driers and washers to clean the kit each day. A great stay in a good location!

Love it! Great place and excellent vibes. Staff and other occupants were so friendly and helpful, felt very homey. Was very clean and facilities were excellent. Could not recommend this place more!
Location was alright, close to facilities but also close to numerous bus stops that take you to other main areas of town.

I stayed at Haka Lodge for approximately 8 nights, I paid nearly $70 a night for a backpackers bed in Queenstown. I then found out that half price rooms were given to fill up spaces. I left 1 night early and requested a refund that was denied. I also stayed at Haka House in Fransz Joseph for $28 which was a much nicer site and when I questioned the amounts I was given a very vague response to of time of year, location and demand which really is not acceptable or a justification. The staff were good on site but does not mean anything when clients are getting disregarded. I will not be going back to visit again

Overall, the hostel was great for the basics - clean, simple, enough space to yourself and the appropriate services to make the stay comfortable and easy - food location as well. However, it’s right next door to a live music venue that would be playing loud music until midnight/1am and was so loud that it felt like it was in my room! Made it very hard to sleep and frustrating when I was getting over jet lag and trying to sleep at 9/10pm. There were also very loud pipes in the room that would make loud noises with rushing water. I stayed in the 20 person mixed dorm and found everyone to be friendly and respectful. Wouldn’t return here because of the noise and I didn’t feel they had great service - staff didn’t do much for checkin and no hostel activities or services.

We arrived here after a very long flight and a long day at Waiheke Island and then found that the "rent a bunk bed in a dorm" style was not really what we wanted. Also the street its on seems really sketchy. We just ate the cost of the room for two nights and got alternative lodging elsewhere. Also, there was nowhere convenient to park. I would not recommend staying here if it's your first time to New Zealand and it's your first day of travel unless you already know that you dig hostels.

One of the worst places I've stayed in a while.
After a 30h flight from Madrid to Auckland I just needed a good night sleep but the hostel is located on a party street and the room windows are paper thin which makes the sleeping impossible. The noise coming from outside is just too loud and it doesn't stop until around 3am.
Customer service also not great. Tried contacting the hostel staff twice but got no response.
Overall not impressed.

I dropped my cellphone on the floor, only to find rubbish under both single beds. Obviously the cleaners had not done their job properly - ie vacuum cleaned under the beds.. Size of room is good. But please ensure your workers are doing their job properly and thoroughly. My back ground is in Hotel and Hospitality. So its only best I give constructive feed back. POOR/TERRIBLE. P.S Naomi was accommodating and hospitable when i made my bookings. Other than that staff were fine. Thank you.

Haka lodge is located in one of the coolest streets in Auckland: K-road. It's colorful and full of interesting shops and cool cafes, I personally loved the vibe there. The hostel has a great cozy common area and provides everything you need for when backpacking. I really liked the fact that the beds have their own curtains so you can have a lot of privacy as well. Furthermore I want to say a big thank you to all of the staff there because they were able to help me during a difficult time for me in Auckland. I highly recommend this hostel for your stay in the city!

Clean, comfortable, quiet hostel with a really well maintained big kitchen. Great location on K Road with a big supermarket 10 minutes walk away and a nice walk to the CBD and harbour. Staff were friendly and hands on (asking people to keep down the noise after a certain time etc.)

We went online and got a good deal on parking nearby (I can’t remember the name of the place but was a 5 min walk), from memory street parking was going to work out very expensive but if you are leaving early the next morning it might be ok
Kia Ora Josh,
The cheapest way to travel to and from Auckland Airport is via the Skybus. This leaves every 10 minutes during peak times and an adult ticket costs $18 when you pay on the bus.
Airport to Lodge:
You can take either Skybus bus route (#01 or #05) to the City. Get off at either the first stop on Queens Street (slightly closer to the Lodge) or, the first stop on Symonds Street. It takes around 5-10 minutes to walk to the Lodge from these stops.
Lodge to Airport:
The nearest Skybus stop is near the top of Queens Street, just after the junction with City road. This is about a 10 minute walk from the Lodge.
There are also taxi companies that run between the airport and town - these vary in price but should be around $40 one way. Try Discount Taxis on 09 529 1000
Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
Ngā mihi,
