Mövenpick Hotel Auckland captivates guests with its stylish, modern atmosphere and the allure of its cozy, quiet rooms. While many appreciate the central location with harbor views and unique amenities like a chocolate hour, some guests feel the hotel's value is diminished by unexpected costs and inconsistent service.
The rooms earn praise for cleanliness and comfort, yet reviewers occasionally highlight size and noise as drawbacks. Despite the mixed feedback on service and room specifics, the central location near vibrant squares and attractions remains a highlight for travelers.

Detailed Reviews

It’s a 5 star hotel but would give this a 4/5 review.
Room was small although comfy and clean. Location is perfect, central to everything, shopping and viaduct harbour.
The downside of this hotel is, they don’t provide complimentary water. Not even a water dispenser in the hallway. They want you to drink water from your sink in the bathroom/toilet🥹 and it’s a 5 star hotel with a 5 star price. Also, at the reception when we asked for something to drink because we were parched, the answer was , you have to go to your room as we don’t have any here. Really???
Breakfast is just so so, not many options nor choices.
You have a great view though overlooking the harbour.

Hotel's Favourite
First time staying at a Movenpick property and was very impressed.
We were travelling for my birthday, and staff were incredibly attentive. The Boda restaurant on the top floor is top notch, and seems to also be quite popular among locals.
Rooms are stylish and comfortable and super quiet.
Chocolate hour is a fun treat, which we used as our wet weather plan. It conveniently leads into happy hour!
Lastly, it's location right next to Britomart station, the Ferry Terminal and the main shopping street makes for a super convenient location.
Couldn't recommend this place more highly!

Compact but clean and comfortable down town hotel. Bathroom was tightly packed but shower head had excellent water pressure and soothing on tired body. Night light was missing and desired few type C outlets for newer phones but rooms are modern. Ambiance is cozy with a stuffy toy and marble lions at entrance. Breathtaking view of Auckland and plenty of choice for breakfast on 13th floor.

This hotel has no business claiming it’s a five-star accommodation. Upon arrival, no form of identification was checked. Not my passport or even the card I used to book the reservation. When I questioned the hotel about this later, they said it was because I prepaid for the hotel. It’s not reassuring to know that anyone could’ve been given my reservation and access to my room that I already paid for. In addition, my partner and I were handling four luggages, and we weren’t even offered help up to our room.
The room was not impressive at all. The queen bed was uncomfortable, and I could hear all the street noise from outside. In addition, the rug was old and the linens were rough. There were scuffs on the wall, and the sink was scratched up. This definitely wasn’t what I was expecting from a so-called luxury hotel.
On the second day of my stay, my partner was feeling sick, and we asked the hotel if there was a spot to heat up some of our food. It took twenty minutes for the front desk to answer their phone, and they told us we could heat up our food on the thirteenth floor. When we got to that floor, we were questioned what kind of food we were heating up. The workers were disdained that we wanted to heat up Filipino food. They said we couldn’t heat up our food there due to regulations, but they could give us plates and cutlery to eat with. We gladly accepted and started eating our leftovers in the dining area.
Another worker then came over to us and yelled that we couldn’t eat in that space and we had to take the food back to our room. I asked if we could take the desserts that were given out as part of their free chocolate hour back to the room with us and I was met with a resounding no. I understand there are certain regulations, but there’s no need to be rude about it. When I brought my complaints up to the deputy manager, he said that I only had these complaints because I’m American. My nationality has nothing to do with me expecting cordial and respectful service.
Housekeeping was also slow, but Elli provided great turnover service. That and the location are the only good things about this hotel. Save your sanity and book a room at the Four Points by Sheraton in Auckland. They provide exemplary service and secure accommodations.

Pros….
Really comfy beds and a great nights sleep.
Great smelling toiletries (although conditioner was empty and never replenished)
Great location for ferries, bars, restaurants and shopping.
Good air con
Decent sizes rooms.
Room service breakfast great
Cons……
Appalling check in staff
Noisy rooms… walls appear to be paper thin so lots of street noise and noise from hotel corridors.
We had 2 rooms for 3 nights, one of which was never cleaned and no replenishment of towels or tea/coffee (but available from reception)
No water bottles, which is fine, but sink taps only seemed to run lukewarm or hot water so not great for drinking,
Staff in the bar/restaurant completely ignored us on the 2 occasions we went upstairs…. We gave up and went elsewhere,
Loud music playing constantly in bar and lobby so you couldn’t hear ant conversations…… why have pop music playing at all in that environment.
Would I go back, not a chance !

We had a junior suite which on first appearance was nice. However the lighting was awful only lamps, the bathroom small with the worst shower ever. The location of the room was next to the service lift and it was loud and caused the room to shake. There was no soundproofing- heard everything including those above us and on the street. For the price of the room I expected so much more. The only thing that made this ok was I used my points to reduce the price - but as this was meant to be an anniversary treat I’m annoyed I used points.

Kia ora Katherine B, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay with us. While we're always open to constructive feedback, it seems your experience fell short of your expectations in several areas, and for that, I truly apologize. It’s clear you were hoping for an exceptional anniversary treat, and we’re sorry we didn’t meet that mark. While some aspects, such as the room’s lighting and layout, come down to personal preference, we understand they didn’t suit yours. We do strive to create a comfortable atmosphere for all our guests, so we’ll certainly review your feedback with my team. Regarding the noise and the room’s proximity to the service lift, we regret that this impacted your stay. While we do our best to mitigate such disturbances, it appears this didn’t come through as it should have. For future visits, we’d be more than happy to assist in selecting a quieter room that better matches your preferences. Lastly, while we're glad that you used your points your stay with us, we’re genuinely sorry that this special occasion wasn’t as enjoyable as you’d hoped. Please know that your experience is not the standard we aim to deliver. I will have the team refund your points. We’d love the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a stay that better reflects the high standards of service and comfort we’re known for. If you’re planning another special occasion or trip, please reach out to me directly so we can ensure everything is just right. Ngā mihi Sean Slattery

I stood at this hotel for one night and wished that I could have stayed longer!
The location is excellent. It sits right at the end of Queen Street and is almost directly on the harbor. The walk to the ferry for Waiheke Island was conveniently maybe a 2-3 minute walk away and the Commercial Bay mall was about a 1 minute walk away, which had a nice large food court amongst the shops.
I had a room that overlooked Customs Steet and really enjoyed my view. I especially liked the window nook, as it was big enough for me to sit on and lay my legs out while working on the computer and having a great view out the window.
I was located in a room that was literally directly in front of the elevator. I was initially concerned that I'd be able to hear people going on/off the elevator, but thankfully, I did not hear anyone and the location of the room was not a problem whatsoever.
The room itself was very clean, very modern and overall, just really great. The hotel was busy, but the staff were helpful and stored my luggage both before check in and after check out. There's a taxi stand literally right as soon as you walk out of the front doors, so that was convenient as well.
Overall, I had a really lovely time here and will definitely be staying here the next time I'm in Auckland!

I’ll start with the good - clean and modern hotel with a great location! The room was quite comfortable and facilities generally good as well. Ate at BODA restaurant one night as well and nice food with a great view.
Unfortunately it goes downhill from here. The staff can at best be described as apathetic, and it’s clear there has either been no customer service training or management simply encourages staff to disregard it’s customers. They don’t make eye contact or smile, and seem uninterested in helping guests.
Beyond that, there were several instances that I just found to be unacceptable. One day we received a letter under the door stating there would be a “momentary loss of power at 10pm, that should not cause a significant disruption.” This outage lasted 3.5 hours while it was 6 degrees outside. The room was freezing and it was unsafe trying to navigate around it with my phone flashlight, which then died when I had no was to charge it. I get this may not have been in their control, but the lie about a momentary loss was not ok.
The following morning, the hotel was doing some photo shoot and when we tried to walk to our $50 a night valet car, the employees doing the photo shoot yelled at us that we couldn’t go (into the car pick up area). Instead we were told to go outside around the block and get the car there. And on the valet “service”, 2 out of 4 mornings my car wasn’t ready when I had requested it, with one day being 15 minutes late and another 45 minutes after requested. I would suggest parking in a public lot and not leaving your car with them.
Other simple things such as the coffee machine being broken at breakfast and rooms not cleaned by 4pm just lead this hotel to being a 3 store property, not the 5 star it claims to be, and certainly not worth the money.

Kia ora Tim Thank you for your review and I do apologise we did not meet your expectations. The power outage was out of our control and we can only follow what the power company had told us, definitely not an excuse and next time we will be better prepared to provide extra blankets and to have power banks available. Our team are usually very bright and super helpful and will speaking to the departments about dealing with out of the box issues better than what we currently are doing. On that note valet parking is something we are trying to improve and do apologise you had delays in getting your car. Ngā Mihi Sean Slattery Hotel Manager

Stayed here 4 nights on a business trip to Auckland. The office I had to visit was a 5min walk away so it was very convenient to be at Movenpick. Plus the hotel is located near a bunch of excellent restaurants as well.
The room had a city view and was quite spacious. The bathroom looked neat and modern. They can consider providing a few hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes. The bed was comfortable and I had a good sleep. Aircon was efficient and quiet.
My booking included breakfast which was at Boda on the 13th floor with a nice view. The breakfast spread was comprehensive and well stocked and replenished. Eggs are made to order if you osk. The fresh juice machine was a nice way to avoid a mass produced sugar rush.
Overall really nice hotel and worth a return visit.

Such a disappointing experience. Hotel is nice and the view from our room was lovely but from start to finish the members of staff we met were not great. After dealing with sullen staff in the restaurant who weren’t able to answer questions, plus terrible coffee, the trip was finished off with an extra charge for breakfast. When booked for me and my wife to stay for the night we paid for breakfast only to be informed at checkout that this was only one breakfast we would have to for the extra one. This was clearly an error, but when I challenged and suggested that charging for an extra breakfast on a 500 dollar room was perhaps not good for business (ie I won’t ever stay at a Mövenpick again) the team member just walked away from me muttering something about booking agents and having to pay. In the end I just left, with no receipt or confirmation of total cost for the stay awaiting final cost by checking my credit card statement. I think we are easy guests and have never written a bad review before but am hoping I’m doing so the hotel will work with staff on having a more pleasant demeanour and common sense in these circumstances as i left quite frustrated and a bit angry tbh. Won’t be coming back which is a shame as we were really excited at this treat of a night out.

Response from Mövenpick Hotel Auckland, General Manager at Mövenpick Hotel Auckland
Responded 13 Nov 2023
Kia ora FarAway It is so disappointing to read your feedback when the whole hotel has a huge focus on guest satisfaction. One has let you and the whole team down and clearly further training is needed in the restaurant. I can assure you this is top priority for the Food and Beverage manager as we do not want this type of service in our hotel. Please allow me to apologise for the experience you received in the restaurant. Please contact me directly as we would love to have you back and provide the service that is expected of Movenpick hotels. Nga Mihi, Sean Slattery Hotel Manager Sean.Slattery@movenpick.com

Mount Maunganui, New Zealand509 contributions191 helpful votesWe understand there is valet parking on Customs Street but was also told by friends that the entrance to the parking is no longer there or it’s very difficult to find amongst other shops.
Can someone please clarify……
Hi Gail
We have two entrances, one from Customs street and the other from the back on Galway street. There are now signs on the walls for the valet parks.
Hope this helps.
Sean

All rooms come with bath robes. We are currently looking at chrome cast for rooms and hopefully we will have this up and running in the future.
