The Great Ponsonby is in a league on its own. It is elegant without being ostentatious, friendly helpful staff, beautiful decor, first rate breakfast, eco-friendly, excellent location & comfortable accomodation.

Booked this online from England and used this as our base for New Year and gotta say it was a great choice from the moment we checked-in on a Sunday afternoon until we left 2 days later. Holly welcomed us with tea a friendly smile and a lot of very useful tips and suggestions about the city. We stayed in...

After a long haul flight I was greeted by the hosts like a long lost relative. Lovely ambience , good music playing, my enormous room overlooked ponsonby and beyond, with a lovely terrace to enjoy sunsets. Delicious breakfast on the veranda, Fresh baked banana bread and smoked salmon on scrambled egg.mmmmm lovely. The location is charming, a really pretty street with...

The Arthotel was our first experience of New Zealand after the gruelling 24 hour flight from London, and it couldn't have been a better one. If ever a cliché comes true it is here: Sally, Gerry and their staff provide 'a home (far) away from home'. The rooms are spacious (we had a cottage in the garden), well furnished and...

We loved our B & B on a lovely side street just a short walk from the central city. The rooms were comfortable decorated with lovely art pieces and antique furniture. The breakfasts were to die for...more like a restaurant with several choices. The staff was very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. This B & B was so much...

Thank you for your lovely review. We always try and make breakfast special as we travel a lot and hate just getting carbohydrate of some kind left in a fridge. Take care.

Sally and Gerry are the warm congenial hosts one hopes to find in a city with which one is not familiar. They go out of their way to assist with suggestions, setting up reservations for all travel needs, and engaging in chats. The breakfasts are delicious and we missed them like crazy after we traveled to the South Island. The...

My wife and I stayed in the Great Ponsonby Arthotel for 7 weeks while I was on a short term teaching assignment in Auckland. It is located very ideally and centrally with all conveniences of public transport, groceries & good restaurants at walking distance. We loved the scale of the place as it is with cottages in a garden in...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. You say a "home away from home"....well you did become part of the family and I was glad to see you did not take Tom with you when you left. He has taken to fishing and sits gazing into the fish pond. Hope we meet again. Arohanui.

This is a quirky option in a great location. It takes less than a half-an-hour to walk downhill into the city, and the bus gets you there in under 10 minutes. Ponsonby is full of lovely coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques, so staying local is a good option too. The hosts are lovely and will help in any way they...

We've stayed at the Great Ponsonby 4 times now and always find it home from home - Gerry and Sally are perfect hosts, the rooms are very comfortable with every facility ( WiFi, Sky TV, iPod dock, fridge with fresh milk, lovely toiletries etc. etc.) Much better than a characterless hotel and so close to all the restaurants of Ponsonby...

Loved this place. Rooms have real character and I loved sitting in the garden and on my verandah. Gerry and Sally couldn't have been more hospitable and breakfast is delicious! Perfectly located, close to good restaurants and coffee shops in Ponsonby. A real find. I look forward to visiting again!
