Detailed Reviews
The Great Southern hotel is a good hotel to stay if you want a private room with ensuite on a budget. The rooms are reasonably large and the beds are comfortable. The blackout curtains are excellent. The aircon works well. There is a 24 hour reception and a bar at the entrance. There are reasonably priced meals at the bar, although you can go to the local restaurants in a short walk. The bus services are also only a short walk away, 5 to 10 minutes maximum.
The only downside I had while I was staying at the great Southern, was the lack of soundproofing for the room next door. I one night there was a crying baby in the room next door, which I got to hear a fair bit of. Luckily I carry ear plugs, so it was okay.

Great location and the secure parking was a reasonable price and nice peace of mind. But the cleanliness of our room was pretty rough, coffee splashed all over the backsplash, some other kind of liquid over the walls next to the bed, the extra blanket we used from the cupboard had yucky white dried liquid patches on it and there was even blood splattered on the tiles in front of the toilet. I’ve attached pics-However they aren’t the best quality. When I notified the staff on checkout they did seem quite shocked and mentioned they’d advise the manager. That was as far as it went. I thought the fact there was actual blood on the wall tiles in the bathroom might warrant an apology at the very least...

Stayed here 2 nites. Excellent value for a low price. The room was spacious, clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom excellent, had a safe, ironing board/iron, hairdryer, microwave, coffee/tea/electric jug, shampoo and soap. Things I didn’t expect for the price. Breakfast was cheap with 2 choices and there’s a comfortable bar and area to celiac on the foyer. The staff were professional and courteous. The hotel has been recently renovated and is in the heart of Northbridge’s Chinatown so there’s plenty of choices as well as an IGA supermarket in easy walking distance. I’ll be back.

I was unable to go abroad for the holidays because of the borders being closed so I ended up spending a week in the city. I enjoyed my one week stay at the Great Southern Hotel Perth. It was awesome. I booked the Budget Queen room, so I was expecting not to have any window.
It was my first stay there and was amazed with all the facilities that the hotel was providing. The prices are reasonable, and I will definitely come back. Everything I needed was walking distance from the hotel and 15 minutes’ walk to the CBD.
I got the chance to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the 1903 restaurant. The food was sooo yummy and I would recommend everyone staying at the Great Southern Hotel in Perth to try it at least once.
The room that I booked was an unserviced room, but the housekeeping cleaned my room on the 4th day with no additional cost and without even requesting them to do so. The staffs are friendly, very helpful. During my stay, I had an issue, but it was sorted out immediately and effectively. I could clearly see that all the staffs went out of their ways to make my stay pleasant.
Unfortunately, I did not have my car, but I saw some signs saying that the car park cost only $15 which is fair, and they offer late check out for $20.
I will be back again and highly recommending the Great Southern Hotel to anyone who wants a cheap hotel with a 5***** service. Thanks to all the staffs who contributes to make me feel like home.

Very noisy (superior Queen) room (203)on ground floor, doors banging all the time. They have these glowing switches that are neon blue and red which light up the room. So you can't have a nice dark room, plus there's a half inch gap under door so light floods in from there. Fire alarm went off at 1030pm and standing on road in pj's for 10 mins, staff didn't say a thing and then people just started walking back in when alarm stopped going off. Bed Matress very cheap. Ie you can feel your partners every move. Only covered with a single sheet and a thin itchy blue blanket. Side tables by bed are rediculusly small and cheap, can't fit anything on them. No hooks in bathroom. Fridge noisy had to unplug. Aircon noisy, had to leave on. Recorded 35 dbs on sound meter, bit noisy for a good night sleep
Booked on booking.Com with breakfast included that didn't mention breakfast only starts at 0730. However left at 0715, gave voucher back to staff member who said, "oh OK thank you" ! Never asked how was your stay as I would have unloaded on him. Couldn't be bothered after rough night sleep and left. Location is good and secure parking is good. Extra $15 but too noisy and uncomfortable

Booked this hotel for my husband and son as was convenient location to Stadium close by. Was a great price… obviously too good to be true.
As room was booked under my name, they were told they were not allowed to check in on arrival.
I spoke to staff by phone and could verify booking confirmation numbers. Sent photos of confirmed emails to husband to show as proof. Sent through copy of my ID and asked if I could FaceTime. Offered to give ID details of husband.
They were still unable to check in.
As room was already confirmed and paid for/non-refundable, I was unable to change guests name on booking or cancel room, via booking.com app.
Told by staff to contact Agoda, which was not the company that I used, and I told the staff this.
Staff still insisted I contact Agoda. Which I did, and obviously told they could not help me as it was not their booking, which I’d already told staff.
Re-Contacted booking.com which said I needed to sort directly with hotel… which what I was trying to do.
Totally frustrating and lacking all common sense!!
Husband then tried to book again, and told could not book in as no rooms. Even though the paid for/confirmed room was there.
They then had to drive the 2 hour drive home late at night.
Ridiculous and Unacceptable. Would not recommend.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback – Unfortunately on this occasion we exhausted all our resources trying our very best to resolve the issue on the night of the reservation itself. The Manager on Duty spoke with your Husband and explained this process at length. In addition we have also reached out to both Booking.com and Agoda directly for a solution as this reservation was booked through a third party website. Regards, Great Southern Hotel Perth

I stayed in the budget queen room over Christmas and it was surprisingly large, well equipped and quiet. Whilst there wasn't a proper window as such (a covered and bolted shut window facing a light well), it was still comfortable. The staff were attentive when I had any questions, and the hotel was more modern than I was expecting for the price.
The area is super handy to the main part of Northbridge and the inner suburbs, and is not too far from the CBD by foot. It has some of the best and cheapest restaurants at its doorstep.
As an ex-pat, I was aware that the immediate area can be a bit dodgy at night, but I had no issues. I'd definitely stay here again.

Couldn't get toilet paper, no cutlery or plates in the room. The Front Reception (Manager) couldn't speak English fluently, and wasn't helpful. As we had to check out a day earlier, we asked for a Refund in writing, as advised by the Manager, still no reply.

Lovely comfortable room.
I stayed on the ground floor in a single room with a skylight (not sure how that works when on the ground floor but it does!) for two nights. This was more than adequate given you’re only really in the room to sleep. I guess if you were spending more time in the room rather than being out and about exploring Perth you would want a window. Shower is large with hot water that has great pressure. My only bit of constructive feedback is that it would have been nice to have a doona! It’s just a thin throw-rug type blanket (with a spare in the cupboard) and a sheet on the bed. This means that unless you want to be cold at night you have to have the heater on. I shivered a bit at times through my first night and then put the heater on for the second. Seems a bit resource wasteful to me.

The food at the 1903 restaurant is a credit to the owners.Christina and her Husband provided us with wonderful tasty mouth watering Japanese food. But they also cater for all tastes. They can also cater for special functions. It is well worth a visit.

Sorry, we did not take the bus. But, just as a side additional information, taxi from the international airport to Great Southern Hotel is about AUD40. Makes more sense for us, as we were travelling with an elderly and a child, with luggages. Uber can be cheaper, depending on certain circumstances, but not by much.
