The location is excellent, the organization a little less so. They assign me a room but the beds are all occupied then they give me another one and there are problems there too until the guy at the reception comes up and strips a bed and gives me the sheets and so problem solved wasted an hour. Cheap prices. Small kitchen for guests present as well as the swimming pool. Cleaning ok but certainly not meticulous. For a few days it's ok

If you’re looking for a cheap dirty place to crash this place is for you. I will not be recommending it in a good way to anyone. the rooms were absolutely disgusting and dirty, carpets were so gross i actually hoovered them myself. food (or whatever it was) splatted up the walls. Gum stuck to the bunk beds/walls. Dirty smelly showers that hadn’t been cleaned for 5 nights bearing in mind it was a dorm
of 6. I’m not one to usually write a bad review i just deal with it and move on however i was really disappointed and don’t want anyone with high hopes experiencing the same thing.

This hostel has so much potential. Yet one receptionist nearly ruins it. The lady with glasses on Sunday mornings is beyond rude. An absolute misery. Greeted me recently with 'what?' as I went to speak to reception to extend. Also nothing is safe in the kitchen. I've had countless things go for a walk. And the system for cutlery/plates isn't too smart. Free breakfast is great and every other receptionist is lovely.

Response from Sean R, Manager at Billabong Backpackers Resort
Responded 24 June 2015
It's not fair to blame the hostel when food items are stolen. It's not the hostel staff but the other backpackers that are doing it. As a hostel we have procedures in place to stop this happening. All guests are told to put all food items in a bag and to lock it with a padlock. But guests do not follow this procedure and then want to blame the hostel. It's a sad case but the truth is backpackers will steal from other backpackers and it's a dual responsibility of the guest and property to try and prevent this. We provide lockers and make procedures to stop stealing so then it's up to the guests to use the lockers and follow those procedures. If everyone did this It would be great that when we check someone in it said "I am a thief on their passport but it does not). Sorry about the staff member. She is usually really nice. Sure it's an isolated incident.

Really good hostel when in Perth. Location was really convenient if you are looking to work nearby as there are good transportation options and many small businesses nearby. Wouldn’t recommend as a party style hostel. Very friendly staff and free breakfast was decent especially if your an earlier riser. Very diverse set of people and nobody looked out of place in the common areas playing pool or cooking in the moderate sized kitchen. Cleaned twice a week and cleaners did a great job. Room could have done with some maintenance but for the price it was a great deal. Definitely would come again when in Perth.

We regularly stay at Billabong when coming to Perth. we always find the staff very accomodating. The rooms are always clean, and we love having our own ensuite but still at the best prices in town! No noise problems as the walls are brick - no noisy creaky hallways etc!
Parking available also (now for a small fee) breakfast is included - although we rarely make it down in time lol. It’s still there! Pool always looks great, but usually we are too busy to spend time around it. Always Highly recommend BILLABONG to everyone, friends and strangers.

Great hostel! Stayed here for just shy of a week and had a great time! The facilities are really good, with one of the most feature-rich kitchens I've seen in a hostel (ovens and gas hobs... Unreal!). The common areas were large and plentiful, movie room, large dining room, pool etc. Couldn't ask for much more. Could imagine it'd be a great place for living longer term also, not just for the short term like myself. Loved the location, stones throw away from everything! 24 hour reception so I always felt safe and secure. Could not fault it! Stay here!

I would never recommend this hostel to anyone! As it was described as a bright and friendly hostel in a popular travel guide for Perth, my boyfriend and I checked in for two nights.
When we arrived we were dealt with by abrupt staff to say the least. We had booked a six bed dorm and when we got to the room we were horrified. The room was unacceptably dirty and had not been cleaned or checked by hostel staff in a very long time. The people already in there had obviously been there for a very long time and did not care about hygine. The bathroom was dirty and the security was terrible.
When we asked whether we could change rooms the staff said that it was not possible for that evening and offered no further help. Therefore we checked straight out of the hostel and got our money refunded.
I have stayed in hundreds of hostels whilst traveling and no hostel has ever been so bad that I have had to check out that same day........apart from this one.
I would not waste my time here as the 26 dollars you will pay for staying in a dorm, will seriously not be worth it.

They are claiming to be the best hostel in Perth. This is nothing else than completely fooling their customers. The condition of the building and rooms is poor. Curtains on the room was incredibly dirty, mildew in the bathroom roof, and paint starting to come of. Sometimes we were having problems getting hot enough water in the showers.
The internet was not fast, and they have a "no streaming movies or Youtube videos" policy, so no Netflix for you. You could not get internet in your room either.
There are all sorts of rules posted everywhere in the building, feels like your in prison, really stressful. No visitors, so your friends cannot come on visits...
Cutlery is being delivered to you in a plastic bag, kind of prison like as well. Kitchen is OK, but they did not have brushes to do the dishes with, only worn out and filthy cloths. Nasty. Found food in the fridges from people that had left 10 days ago.
And lets top it all of with a staff that is the most rude I have ever met! Some of them were nice, but sadly, we met 2 really arrogant and condescending staff members, that ruined the experience completely. We hesitated to ask the staff for anything because of their attitude.
I was looking forward to a week on the "best hostel in Perth" with my 3 friends. Big, fat lie. The first thing we did after meeting the staff was to book rooms in YHA. Would not recommend this hostel to anyone.

My friend has been living there for over 3 months as is well known by management I was visiting him at the hotel very briefly before we would enjoy a Friday evening out, I am a respectable 26 year old female from the U.K. Who hadn't even consumed a single alcoholic beverage I was made to feel very uncomfortable by a staff member whose name I believe to be called Gareth asking when I was leaving , I was being watched like a hawk I felt like a criminal so I left to sit outside the hotstel with my friend Tizian Kaiser who was drinking some goon and myself Lemonade before Gareth followed us to the car park and asks us to leave for absolutely no reason at all. I have been living in Australia for over 2 years and never once had this treatment I am genuinely shocked and disgusted by how I was treated I have many a friend in Perth and will definitely not be recommending this hostel to any traveller visiting Perth as I had every intention of staying there for the duration of my visa and this has put me off

Response from Adam B, General Manager at Billabong Backpackers Resort
Responded 19 Sept 2016
Hi Gabby, It is our policy that we have to restrict visitors on site. This is because we had over 200 guests on this Friday night. They are paying guests and our facilities are for their use. Our staff are busy controlling them and making sure everyone is safe and enjoying themselves. We simply don't have capacity to extend our services to non-residents. Gareth explained this to you on arrival and gave you the opportunity to wait in the common area while your friend got ready. The reason you felt uncomfortable is because you weren't allowed on site, and knew this. This is why you went for a drink in the car park. This is nothing to do with your age, nationality, whether you came across as respectable or how long you've lived in Australia. It is simply our visitor policy as explained to you on the night. We apply our rules to all guests equally no matter how long they've stayed with us for. This is only fair. To detract from our reputation on this basis is unreasonable and contrary to TA's terms of service. I will be asking TripAdvisor to remove this review as you could not rate our service, cleanliness, value, location, sleep quality and rooms as you have never stayed here and are in no position to review our hostel. Thanks for affording me the opportunity to give some context to the above. Kind regards, Adam B- General Manager

This is just not true. Before you believe this review come and see for yourself. The Billabong is the best Hostel in Perth. It is the only place that has private bathrooms, balcony and airconditioning in all the rooms, We have an amazing swimming pool and outdoor seating area. Renovations have just been completed witch would make it one of the best in Australia. Dont forget the Free breakfast, free parking, free WIFI, free linen, laundry, 24 hour reception and large kitchen. Two full time cleaners work very hard to keep this huge property clean and do a great job. We provide lockers for all the guests and if they are used the rooms look amazing. Unfortunatley not all guests are as clean and coniderate of the other guests as we would like. Sometimes the staff are like parents. They are here to look after the guests and make sure they all have the best time and this includes sometimes having to speak to guests regarding inappropriate behaviour. This way all the guests get the best out of the Billabong
