Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Best hostel in Perth!! We had room for two and the room was very big and clean. The kitchen was very clean and there was nice to cook because it was so big. Quiet location. You can use free zone buses to get Beatty Lodge. Staff were so friendly, for example the Spanish guy!
WI-Fi was expensive.

I stayed at Beaty lodge for 8 weeks in june whilst i was working in perth.I didnt relize Beaty lodge wasnt in the center of the city, although once i arrived i was aformed of the free bus that takes you to the city center.(bus # 15 )
The staff were great very friendly and helpful.i didnt have trouble with any noise although i was in the vip room.Compared to other hostels i have stayed in perth Beaty lodge had the best value for money. One disapointing aspect at Beaty lodge was the lack of kitchen utensils as sometimes these were limited when i cooked dinner during the busy meal time period.

I have stayed in Beatty Lodge on several occasions now and would recommend this hostel to anyone, stranger, friend or family.
Since the first time I stayed they have improved the entrance-lobby-thing-area. A refurb and extra sofas so you can relax while on the wifi.
The kitchen does leave something to be desired, the communal fridges are still the one place your belongings won't be safe, perhaps a camera in the kitchen would help. There is a lack of equipment in the kitchen in regards to the cooking utensils and pans.
The rooms are good, I haven't had any issues getting bitten by anything and haven't seen anyone with issues either. The showers and bathrooms are acceptable for cleanliness, after all, it is a hostel and not a hotel. If you wanted the Ritz, go stay there.
I love the location. It's out of the city enough for it to be quiter than the others around town but it just 5 mins walk to Leederville, which has several bars and a couple of clubs as well as a supermarket, cafes, laundro-mat, post office and several boutiques. The local suburb also has a train station 5 mins from the hostel which takes you in to the city which most people don't seem to realise.
The rooms are better than in some of the other hostels in Perth I've stayed at, reasonably sized, the carpets are really worn and although the sheets are changed, the actual beds and rooms don't seem to get cleaned as much as possibly should do.
I am surprised to see some bad reviews of the staff at Beatty Lodge but I have found them to be friendly, helpful and count them as some of the better friends I have met on my travels.
Good points - location, staff
Negative/Improvements needed (hopefully since the other reviews have been read mine might be as well) - camera or other security system in kitchen, working tvs in all rooms (general refurb of rooms), more equipment in kitchen.
Overall, very good hostel.

Called the Beatty lodge for 4 days, leaving a phone number for a return call as "everyone was busy with guests- leave a number and we will call you back"?
The messages (5) were never returned, even a polite call to say there were no available rooms would have been acceptable. we required accommodation for 2 weeks..
Therefore, guest did not and will not try to book there again.

Quiet, cosy, a place to call your temporary home. Rooms are decent size and cater to your every need. Lodge, bathrooms and communal areas are cleaned everyday by the gorgeous housekeepers. The only downside is that the front of house of staff are really attractive and that can be a distraction when your in a rush, especially that Italian fella. Big love.

Whilst the facilities were clean and adequate for the budget traveller, the 11 nights of being bitten, sometimes badly, made my stay in Perth miserable and stressful. The mattress was rife with bedbugs, as well as the bedding and carpet. Although the mattress and bedding was replaced, fumigation was necessary and for some unknown reason was not taken out. The hostel is very large and I can imagine the infestation if not already, will spread quickly to the many other rooms. Without fumigation there will be many more unhappy souls there.

I really cannot understand all the bad reviews as this place is easily one of the best by far hostel I've ever stayed at and feel very comfortable telling anyone to stay there. First of all the staff really make the difference. They really make you feel welcome and are very friendly and accommodating to deal with. I have stayed here on many occasions and still see some of the people I made friends with from over a year ago staying here. I think that's gotta say something if they keep coming back too. Have to say the security is very good as you need a security swipe pass to get in. The lobby is clean with new couches and lots of info on the bullitin board for cars, jobs or things to do. The kitchen is really one of the cleanest kitchens compared to anyother hostel in Perth. It has a very big lay out with enough cooking items for everyone to utilize at the same time. Very big eating area with large flat screen tv and new couches. The rooms are basic, but very adequate with a heater/fan. Some have new blinds which work well. The superior part of the building is well worth it for the extra money with the added security and cleanlyness. Some have a very good view of the city and alll have new digital flat screen tv's. The laundry is clean with brand new commercial washing machines and driers that work very well. The toilets are kept clean and the showers work very well. I really have to say I LOVE COMING BACK TO BEATTY LODGE ANYTIME.

We spent two nights here, the moment we walked into the room I kicked my flip flops off to stand on a grape stalk with a Rotten grape hanging from it! Immediately after my eyes were drawn to the navy blue sheets which have what looks to be semen stains smeared over them, not to mention the hairs. absolutely vile.
Ok so you also need a deposit for any cutlery or crockery that you need to use should you risk cooking in the disgusting unfriendly kitchen.
The night before we checked out we spoke to reception to ask about an early morning taxi to the bus station- there was no mention to us about the reception not openening until 8am so when we check out we were unable to collect our extortionate 20 dollar key deposit! When we called after 8 to see if we could have the money wired through we were told that nothing could be done and that we should have collected the deposited the night before! To summarise:
Unhelpful staff
Filthy
Rubbish location
Unfriendly vibe
Worst hostel I've stayed in(bare in mind I have traveled through a lot of Asia inc India)

I only checked into the Beatty Lodge for 2 nights yet ended up staying at the beatty for 4 months last year and for another 2 months this year. The staff are friendly the hostel is clean and I met so many great people staying here. There is a great atmosphere but also good if you are working in Perth and need sleep to! Close to city and Leederville which is a lovely suburb. would recommend for both short/long term people.
