Detailed Reviews
We had tickets to Michael Buble on Friday night so decided to stay close to the venue (RAC Arena) at the Melbourne Hotel in Milligan Street. We just had to walk down the hill to get to the Arena. No parking hassles and no traffic jams after the event which can take ages to free up. The Melbourne is an old hotel with a new addition. It keeps the heritage part and the modern is a very appealing addition. The rooms are very nice and the on site Grand Orient Restaurant was lovely for dinner but you have to book. We had a continental breakfast included in the room price and it was $7.00 each to upgrade to a full breakfast with a very good selection. Our room was beautifully tidy, with a big window over looking city buildings towards the east. The airconditioning was great and we had a HUGE bath in the bathroom. The LÓccitane products were just beautiful as well. The check in staff were so helpful and friendly and we will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

Dear Lynda M Thank you so much for sharing your stay on Tripadvisor. So happy to learn that your experience here at The Melbourne Hotel was a comfortable and enjoyable one. Really pleased to read also that you were able to take in our Grand Orient whilst with us, as this really is one of our treasures here at the hotel and with its heritage high ceilings, its a great room to experience traditional Cantonese cuisine. Really appreciate you staying with us and trust you had a great night at the Michael Buble Concert !!! Hope to welcome you back soon. Kind regards Sean Spalding General Manager

Just completed a 2D1N staycation to celebrate my wife's birthday.
The following is a summary of my thoughts
1 Staff
Staff here were personable & eager to please. Management must have done something right to empower staff to meet the needs of guest. Being allowed to check in just before 2, offers of a late checkout (we did not use), birthday card in room and the complimentary bottle of Sauv Blanc, password for faster internet access to watch you tube etc. Credit must go to the front office and housekeeping staff with special mention to Jenny, Janice, Bharti - thank you for making this stay a special one. You guys are a credit to the hotel.
2. Room
The Juliet balcony did not serve any function in my opinion except perhaps as a marketing gimmick. I guess the fact that passing residents can see the bed (when the privacy blinds are removed) would satisfy voyeurs.
We had the added advantage(?) of being offered amenities featuring 2 different brands, Morton Brown shampoo & body wash with the advertised Loccitane conditioner and body lotion. Unsure if they are undergoing a transition but guest after a purist loccitane experience may feel short changed. Fortunately, a L'occitane boutique not far from the hotel would satisfy this indulgence.
Unfortunately, (according to staff from front office), we seem to be the only guest to comment on the slow wifi speed. Speedtest conducted at 230pm and again at 730am again generated a result of 2 Mbps down and up. Sufficient for checking emails & many socials but not for streaming.
The TV is also fixed to the wall (cannot be moved). Its great when watching in bed but its inability to swivel detracts from the enjoyment factor especially after a spouse has fallen asleep while the other wishes to continue without disturbing the sleep of the other.
Potential guest should also be aware that the key card once removed from the insert immediately cuts power to the room rendering it in complete darkness. Recalibrating the mechanism to allow a 30 to 60 seconds delayed grace period would be a nice gesture.
In summary, the Hotel punches above its weight for a 4 star property. While it still has areas to be addressed, the "can do" attitude of staff seems to be up for the challenge.

We booked this hotel for a friends 50th birthday weekend after realising the place we wanted to stay hikes the prices $150 for a Saturday night. All three couples spent way too much time trying to work out which type of room they wanted though! So this review will give you an overview of three types of rooms that we chose.
We had a premier contemporary room on the 4th floor in the new block adjacent to the old hotel. I chose this as I like the modern touch and I felt the room would be further from street level and thus quieter. The room was gorgeous. Odd to have the bed in the middle of the room (with the office area behind) but it makes a memorable change. Our bathroom was lovely but a bit on the narrow side so you wouldn't want it if you were of a wider stature! The bed was so comfortable I almost stripped it to find out what kind of mattress it was. And as I had hoped the room was completely silent to street noise. VERY happy with my choice.
Friend two took a Heritage room - it was decorated and furnished very much like my modern room and really the only thing heritage about it was the slightly more unusual size, high ceilings, ornate skirting boards and old style window.
Friend three had a ?Heritage suite? It was a heritage room on the first floor with access to the balcony. It was an L shaped room so the 'lounge area was around the corner. Otherwise it was as per friend 2's room - high ceilings, ornate skirting but with French doors out on the veranda. There are chairs to sit outside your room but the balcony is accessible to all rooms on this floor. I did feel that traffic noise could be heard even with the doors closed. It was still a very nice room.
The old part of the building has a beautiful old staircase and ornate lift. It certainly retains some of the history of the place.
We never made it to the roof top bar which is a real shame as it was closed for a private function. I find this a bit annoying that even guests can't get there.
We had dinner and breakfast reservations elsewhere so didn't trying eating here although we did have a drink in the downstairs bar.
The hotel is slightly outside of the happening parts of Perth but it wasn't a long walk to get to the shops or 'Betty's Jetty'. Apparently a Cat bus does service it. We parked at the Wilson carpark as recommended by the hotel and on a Saturday we didn't need the hotel's discount ticket as its a flat $10 overnight parking rate.

My husband and I recently stayed for the March long weekend to celebrate his birthday. The hotel is stunning with tasteful decor while retaining the heritage features. We arrived at 2.10pm to find the reception desk closed with a sign stating that. We waited further for someone to come only to be told to sit and wait when they did arrive. The receptionist then made phone calls as the lobby began to fill up with more people wanting to check in. We then queued and waited 1/2 hour to be checked in. Receptionist did apologize but was not a good start to out staycation. As we left reception, finally a second person arrived. We also inquired about food and beverages to be told, the down stairs bar and restaurant don’t open on Sunday because of the long weekend. In the morning we were told they don’t open in general on a Sunday. The rooftop bar was closed for a private function. The cafe was not open due to covid. This only left a tiny ramen restaurant at the side. On arrival to the room (raw heritage) it was stunning. Only negative here is the bathroom is completely open, so you can hear everything from the toilet area. We looked for the room service menu only to find room service was currently not running but could order from a bar menu between 11.30am and 8pm only. Feeling slightly deflated at the lack of food and beverage choice, we asked for a bucket of ice to cool our drinks as the fridge was warm. Beds are super comfy and hotel is quiet at night. As we could not eat anywhere at the hotel for breakfast they recommended going across the road to Tiisch for breakfast. They were booked out and reception did not seem surprised when we told them. At this point we decided to check out to find something to eat. This hotel was stunning and clean, but poor service and lack of amenities open really put a dampener on birthday celebrations for us. For a 5 star hotel and paying $280 a night we left feeling disappointed. If you stay here be prepared to look for other food and drink options and have a long check in.

We stayed at the Hotel for 8 nights and generally found the hotel to be comfortable and perfect for what we needed. The room was a bit small and there were a few problems that I think are down to a lack of thought or design.... 1, take your own hair dryer as the one in the room is terrible and it’s on a short, stretchy cord that barely reaches the mirror. 2, the mirror is placed in a bit of an awkward position above the kettle etc which meant there was no natural light and there was a shelf directly in the middle of my reflection. 3, upon check in, we requested a quiet room and we ended up above the bar which was so noisy.
The location of the hotel was a huge bonus, there are so many bars, shops and restaurants around and it’s only a short walk to the main city centre and the train station. If you are after a clean and comfortable hotel close to the city, then I would recommend this hotel. If you are after large rooms and luxury, then maybe look elsewhere.

Thank you for leaving your feedback Leonirachael! We are ecstatic to hear you loved most aspects of your stay with us. We would definitely recommend upgrading to our Courtyard Suite or Premier Suite on your next visit as these are located on higher levels (and therefore quieter), and also offer full length mirrors for convenience. We are glad that you found our location convenient and we hope we can welcome you back with us again soon. Kind Regards, Zoe - Assistant Front Office Manager

The Melbourne Hotel is an old heritage pub that's been renovated to a high luxury standard without losing it's old fashioned charm. We stayed one night in December and booked a Balcony Room which is at the front of the building so your room opens out onto the verandah overlooking Milligan St. Its location on a busy intersection means you get a bit of traffic noise, and a fire alarm at a building across the road was annoying, but you have to expect that from a hotel in a modern busy CBD.
Our room had all modern furnishings and a really comfy huge bed, great air con, complimentary bottled water, big fluffy towels, slippers and bathrobes. We ordered room service breakfast of ham and cheese toasties, which we ate on the sunlight-filled balcony outside our room while watching the city wake up. Instead of instant coffee sachets you are supplied with drip filter coffee bags, which were confusing to use and didn't taste that great to be honest.
There is a Cantonese and a Japanese restaurant on site, as well as a roof-top bar which unfortunately was closed to us for a private function the night we were there. There is limited on-site parking behind the hotel available at an added cost, and would recommend checking in early to secure one of these if you want your car close. There are other food and drink options within walking distance and a convenience store directly across the road.

We were really looking forward to our two night stay here, based upon reviews and hotel website.
At the time of check in it was fairly quiet at the front desk, the staff were quite clinical in their manner, not really welcoming. We also found this to be consistent during our two night stay here .
Our room looked nice when we first entered and we noted the signage which said enhanced cleaning is undertaken.
Went to make a cup of coffee picked the cup up and the saucer was stuck to it, coffee stains evident.
Moved the cushion off the bed to notice it had a large dirty mark on, then moved the foot bed cover off and it was really dirty and stained.
Reported all of this to reception and after some time we were offered a room change. Thankfully, that room was a marked improvement.
Our stay was during a weekend and many restaurants of the hotel were not open apart from one very small one.
Im sorry to say that we were really disappointed with our stay and based upon that would not stay there again.

Nice room, friendly helpful staff. But much too expensive, no hotel amenities, bar opened for one hour, 6.30 - 7.30pm no warning was going to close but advised when opening, should have been asked if we wished for a last drink as we were having our dinner at that time. There was a counter which served coffee and sweet cakes during the day in a very cold atmosphere. Visit was mid week and all lack of supplies was blamed on covid 19 although the food serving shops across the street were always busy. We had a beautiful hot dinner in a restaurant next evening for half the price. It offers too much in its advertisements and delivers nothing. Dinner was cold when should have been steaming hot, all overpriced. Advised to go across the street for breakfast! Would not recommend this hotel to anyone for any occasion. Price should be half and 3star. A cold large with nice room and friendly staff but nothing else to offer. Our visit was mid August 2020 and we spent much too much of our precious savings for our 48th wedding anniversary. jiminanci@yahoo.co.uk

We booked for a premier room with King bed but it was just 2 combined super single mattress which made our rest pretty uncomfortable.
We requested and was assured in the email reply by hotel when we asked for a high level with street view. But to our disappointment we were told that there was a mistake and that our requests were overlooked. Instead of offering a free upgrade with the view, we were told that the hotel was full and we were then given a low level with no view room when we checked in.
The reason that the duty manager gave was simply that they forgot our approved request and our room type was full. What they could do is probably to upgrade our room. Which we find that abit insincere.. sorry to say that.
When we were resting (privacy sign was put up), one of the staff disturbed us and knocekd the knoch several times, just to pass us a complimentary wine. They could have pass it to us at a later timing or check with us over the phone before knocking at our door.
Next, when we requested for housekeeping, their staff only came, after we made 2 separate calls and almost 40mins later.
All of these incidents were within 1st 5hours of check in.
Hotel has nice ambience and surroundings but service is pretty slow and bad

From the moment we walked into The Melbourne we had a welcome feeling. The front desk staff were very friendly. The room was clean a fresh. We had afternoon drinks and food in the bar and the staff there were great. Very friendly and hospitable. The food was delicious. The room was equipped with everything from top end tea and coffee to complimentary bottled water and amenities such as ironing board and hair dryer etc. Although our room wasn’t huge it still had everything we needed for an overnight stay. The bathroom was bright, clean and spacious with great water pressure in the shower. If I had one little problem it was the ventilation in the bathroom. The mirror obviously fogged up but it took a long time to clear. Also, although the lighting was good in the bathroom, it was terrible to apply make up. I would suggest a led lamp closer to the mirror or something. Everything else was fantastic. The bed was super comfy as were the pillows. Lovely sheets too. We will definitely return and tell our friends about our positive experience.
