Stayed here late October 2023. Rooms are simple and dated but comfortable. Parking is shocking and limited - book in advance or you will be parking on the street. They have just revamped the restaurant on the ground level which is really well presented with nice areas inside and out. I will likely be back as this hotel represents a fair price for the accommodation offered.

This hotel is conveniently located within easy walking distance of cafes and restaurants, and the free CAT bus mere steps away which will take you to the main train station. Reception was warm and friendly, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
On the downside we were under the impression we would be getting a refurbished room which was definitely not the case. They finally completed renovating the front lobby on our last day, but all rooms also need a renovation to bring them to normal Mercure standard. As a frequent Accor user, this was a disappointment for us.
We did not opt for the breakfast on site as found the $28 charge overpriced. I highly recommend Orah cafe a short walk away for friendly service, great coffee, and reasonable breakfast options.

Response from Mirco Turtschi, General Manager at Mercure Perth On Hay
Responded 29 Nov 2023
Dear jbmckenzie, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us and I am glad to hear you enjoyed the location of the hotel and that out team were friendly with a comfortable bed. I am however sorry to hear your disappointment around the renovations. These works were for the lobby and restaurant area with a paint and new bedding being completed in room. We will look to improving the standard of the rooms moving forward from here to ensure a comfortable stay next time. Kind regards, Scott Bear Interim General Manager

Elected to stay here as it was the closest & most convenient to Royal Perth Hospital where I had to attend. It is just 400m or 4-5 minute walk.
The hotel has recently been acquired by the Mercure group & is currently undergoing renovations starting with reception.
Our room was on level 7. It was much larger than expected however maintenance was lacking. The shower head was attached but had fallen so it pointed at the ceiling. All door rebound bumpers mounted on doors or walls were loose & the toilet roll holder allowed the roll to fall off whenever it was touched. The air conditioner was noisy but effective. Maintenance staff attended immediately to repair the shower.
The hotel offers continental or full cooked breakfast which are adequate.
The location of the hotels offers easy access to the CBD free bus service known as the CAT just 25m from the front door. It is also an easy flat walk to the main CBD area. I recommend this centrally located hotel which will only get better when renovations are complete.

My wife and I stayed at this establishment overnight flying in late one evening then on to Exmouth the following morning, we were not happy with the room so the lady on front desk changed rooms for our intended return a week later when we were to spend a few days in Perth. We arrived back, our room had been changed, we were not given what was promised, a feeble excuse was offered, not impressed.
Our room was similar to what we had before, but the TV did not work, the lady from the front desk came up, I think just for show. Made some excuse, talking about a cable , from my knowledge, the TV has not ever worked, I have two at home of the same brand, Samsung.
This establishment was supposed to be refurbished, I think only a few rooms.
I would not return, in fact I am considering cutting my stay short and going elsewhere.
Avoid.

We stayed for 5 nights after a flight from UK, excellent location for local amenities and tourist attractions. Staff were very helpful at all times . Rooms were a bit tired and in need of some tlc, of the two lifts one lift was constantly out of action and on one night both were out of use so stairs to 7th floor , and the air on was noisy. Also lots of noisy guests who had little consideration for others and suspect this had something to do with Chinese New Year celebrations which were on at the time. We had breakfast first morning but this was disappointing for the price of 36 dollars so avoided thereafter, plenty of local places to eat breakfast.
This hotel could do a lot better.

Service from the Hotel staff was Fawlty Towers bad.

From check in to check out they were hopeless.

Despite showing emails from the organiser of my booking to their staff they refused to amend the booking to include meals and parking and also refused to follow up. It was up to me to contact the Organiser to contact them and then when I got back EVERY Night, there was a shift change and back to square one.

Poor desk staff were clueless, confused and although not rude very unhelpful and NO Manager in sight or on site!

Reasonably priced room for a city getaway.
The staff were so polite and friendly we felt great straight away. Parking was full so I parked on the street. No big deal as it’s free parking Sat 6pm till Monday morning.
Our room was spotless and cosy. Bed was super comfy as were the pillows. But what we REALLY loved was the peace and quiet. Once we shut the door we couldn’t hear a single thing. We slept better than we had in months. The 11am checkout was a nice bonus too.
It’s in the quiet end of town but if you go online you’ll find some super secret bars and some amazing restaurants within 100m.
We’ll go back for sure. Some things we did notice though:

The hotel restaurant was there but we didn’t use it. Room service menu was too basic.
We were on 1st floor with a view of cigarette butts on the tin roof.
The kettle has to be the loudest one I’ve ever used, and the milk/ tea supplies are limited.

Overall we were very happy with the value for money.

Budget place to stay for couples

Liked · Value of the rooms was good.
Size of the rooms was good.
Friendly Staff
Good Sized bathrooms

Disliked · Our rooms were meant to be close but we were on different floors and needed to pay for upgrade - which was only one dollar - so quite rediculous that they did that.

Carpet is in need of a clean in the rooms.

Airconditioning units are noisy and old as well

No laundry facilities

Friendly staff and good location…but this tired old hotel is one of the dirtiest I’ve ever stayed in. Disgusting! There was an old beer top in the bath and shampoo/ shower gel in the corners from previous guests, stained floors, air con so loud it sounds like a hairdryer in the room, stinks of stale cigarettes, dirty sheets with lots of hairs and grains of dirt (like a dog had been on them), dirty walls. I cleaned everything with disinfectant wipes. Tried to leave and stay elsewhere at my own cost but every hotel in the city was full due to large events. Told reception on check out about cleanliness and they blamed housekeeping staff and couldn’t have cared less. Avoid.

The room was old, dirty and smelled mouldy. The whole floor had a stale smell to it and after arriving back to the room after a function we decided it was best for our health to not breathe in the foul air coming out of the A/C system (which you couldn't control and left the room warm and uncomfortable) We left at 1am and went home. Complete waste of money and definitely not worth what they are charging.
