We spent four nights at McAlpine house at the end of the season and most times we had the place to ourselves. Room was comfortable, bed very sleepable and the position good. Check in was a breeze with the wonderful ever cheerful Ronaldo waiting for us after our evening flight. His suggestion of a dinner at Matso's that evening was...

an interesting and attractive building but McAlpine House left a lot to be desired. At $298 per night it was overpriced. The "Tropical" breakfast consisted of a jam jar with some yogurt and stewed berries, very ordinary cereals and sourdough bread. Motel style packs of butter and jam. No fresh fruit and no fruit juice. No plug in washbasin and an...

Dear Mr Thorniley, Thank you for submitting your thoughts about McAlpine House. However I must correct some of your misleading statements in the review. Our breakfast is clearly advertised as a tropical continental breakfast in all of our offers. We buy top quality yoghurt and find that the majority of our guests find our "jam jar" of natural yoghurt with...

Marilynne Paspaley, owner of McAlpine House, went so much out her way to make my brief stay in Broome at the McAlpine House so very special by booking for me the varies sight seeing trips eg the Horizontal Falls, Cap Levequ, Dinosours footprints by water jet, etc.. I enjoyed my stay at her comfortable boutique hotel. It was close to...

I don't want this to sound like an ad so I'm letting you know up front the only two criticisms I think can reasonably be leveled at McAlpine; Those people who rate a property according to how recently it was built and how shiny it's exterior might describe McAlpine as a little tired. I don't agree. Those who want a...

Welcomed at Broome airport by one of the management and everything was fine, quirky hotel in good location. Disappointing that our room was not serviced on the second day and all the outside furniture was not cleaned in the 3 days we stayed. That said the staff were very friendly and helpful

If you like to get away from the hotel chains and stay in a place with character, history and which provides the personal touch-- you will love McAlpine House. Peaceful gardens, quiet rooms, shady private verandahs and community breakfasts make for a wonderful experience.

We recently had a week at McAlpine House in Broome and absolutely loved it, mainly because Marilynne and Garry are the most amazing and welcoming hosts. It really did feel like a home away from home thanks to their warmth and genuine enthusiasm for all things Broome. And the house is superb too. Can't wait to go back, and HIGHLY...

We had 2 wonderful nights at McAlpine House. The classic style of the property, wonderful garden, and outstanding hosts made this a very memorable stay. From the moment we arrived we were treated to outstanding hospitality and upgraded to a garden room so that we could settle in early. Breakfast in the garden with great coffee was a fabulous way...

This is a charming contrast to the modern hotels - very comfortable but in the style of the turn of the century with a wonderful timber, verandas, palm trees and lovely ornaments. Hosts Ronaldo and Manet could nor be more helpful. The location is very good, in walking distance of the museum, Matso's Brewery and the wonderful Sisters of Saint...

I 'mistakenly' booked McAlpine House for a work colleague and I. Have to say it was the best mistake I have made. Marilynne, Gary and Rocky are excellent hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. The property is full of character with lots of decks and lounges to relax on. I loved joining the other guests for breakfast, enjoying the banter...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As soon as you step through the modest white picket gate onto a path sprinkled with frangipani flowers and shaded by towering palm trees, you know instantly that you are entering a special place of relaxation and solitude. The former home of Lord McAlpine, Pinctada McAlpine House has been meticulously converted into a private 8-room lodge - perhaps 'oasis' is a more fitting description. A subtle blend of historical charm and modern facilities makes McAlpine House the perfect place to reawaken the spirit. Wide open verandahs and polished timber floors complement a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere which slowly extinguishes your sense of time. We encourage you to make our boutique lodge your home for as long as you stay. By day, the atmosphere is shaped as much by the lush tropical gardens and exotic birds as it is by the personalised attentive service. At night, enjoy a moment of calm by the turquoise waters of a pool lit by a myriad of tiny lights. World class resort? Private retreat? Luxury guest house? McAlpine House defies classification, and that is precisely why it is such a unique place to completely rejuvenate your soul. With just eight rooms - each with its own style and private outdoor escape, a sense of space and escape is blended with a feel of intimacy and serenity. Create your own world among the original artwork and decor reflecting the unique colours and textures of the Kimberley, or step outside to explore the wonder, beauty and contrasts of Broome's azure waters, sweeping white beaches, distinctive red earth and eclectic culture. ... more   less
