As soon as you step through the modest white picket gate onto a path sprinkled with frangipani flowers and shaded by towering palm trees, you know instantly that you are entering a special place of relaxation and solitude. The former home of Lord McAlpine, Pinctada McAlpine House has been meticulously converted into a private 8-room lodge - perhaps 'oasis' is a more fitting description. A subtle blend of historical charm and modern facilities makes McAlpine House the perfect place to reawaken the spirit. Wide open verandahs and polished timber floors complement a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere which slowly extinguishes your sense of time. We encourage you to make our boutique lodge your home for as long as you stay. By day, the atmosphere is shaped as much by the lush tropical gardens and exotic birds as it is by the personalised attentive service. At night, enjoy a moment of calm by the turquoise waters of a pool lit by a myriad of tiny lights. World class resort? Private retreat? Luxury guest house? McAlpine House defies classification, and that is precisely why it is such a unique place to completely rejuvenate your soul. With just eight rooms - each with its own style and private outdoor escape, a sense of space and escape is blended with a feel of intimacy and serenity. Create your own world among the original artwork and decor reflecting the unique colours and textures of the Kimberley, or step outside to explore the wonder, beauty and contrasts of Broome's azure waters, sweeping white beaches, distinctive red earth and eclectic culture.

We had long dreamed of staying in this Colonial era B + B years ago, and finally we did and were not disappointed. Marilynne the host and chef co manager Ronnie were fabulous hosts. We stayed upstairs in a large room with huge outdoor balcony overlooking the pool and rest of the house. The bed was comfy, beautiful fresh linens, lovely amenities in bathroom. The hosts were able to provide lots of information about things to do or places to eat. Breakfast was taken at a long table, other smaller tables are available, and we met and talked to other guests while a gorgeous breakfast was served. Fresh juice, plunger coffee and teas, toast, cooked eggs which varied in style each day. In the heat of the afternoon we sat and had a glass of wine while reading books on the lounge outside our room. The old colonial vibe was everywhere and made us feel "at home", such was the tranquility and service. It was a short walk to the town bus (stop )which came every half an hour, close to the airport, and cable beach a 15 mins bus ride. Taxis are plentiful for far after hours dining. After 4 days of bliss, were sad to leave but had places to go. We would highly recommend this B + B for personal attention and comfort.

Stayed here for five days last month and it was lovely. Marilyn and her staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts each morning were beautiful. We would all sit around at a big table downstairs and it was lovely to get to know other people staying there and listening to their stories and about their lives and travels. We stayed in the old quarter in the library retreat. A beautiful old pearlers cottage so very original with big old balconies where you could sit and just read and relax but you couldn't because the mosquitos were bloody annoying. You had to carry bug spray everywhere you went in Broome as they were so bad. There was a lovely pool which was refreshing of an afternoon to come home to after a long day of walking and sightseeing. Beautiful gardens and parking onsite which was good. A bit out of the town centre but close to beach Definitely worth staying here while in Broome.

Very much enjoyed my stay at McAlpine House. An interesting property with lots of history. Rooms were comfortable, the pool was a welcome relief from the heat and the breakfasts were fabulous. We stayed right at the end of the season so the property was quiet but would definitely stay again if I returned to Broome.

We arrived for a whistle stop visit on the 17th October for 2 nights. Journey by taxi to the hotel took around 5 minutes, all nice and simple. Upon arrival we met with the wonderful Ronaldo, do not underestimate what this person can do, nothing appears to phase him and he has an answer for everything. Check in was quick and simple process, as was a brief explanation of where we were and what was available. The property is a timeless wonder, we hate the corporate marble floor and characterless interior and this place is the complete opposite, thankfully. Quirky nooks and crannies everywhere, creaking floorboards and doors to be opened, uneven floorboards, see your case rolling off is a joy to behold, it’s wonderful, the character in this place is brilliant. We were staying in room 2, the library, now the first floor, we had our own seating area which was comfortable and practical. the bedroom had a bed, side tables chair, tv, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, you need to survive. The bathroom was a good size and covered all our needs. Breakfast is a joy, sitting around a large dining table with other guests sharing stories of travels thus far, is a great start to the day, I’m a fussy vegetarian, but Ronaldo wasn’t to be beaten. Our trip was due to conclude on the 19th with our flight back to Perth, but, thanks to and utter meltdown in customer services by Virgin Australia, that didn’t happen, once again Ronaldo to the rescue, we stayed another night. What then followed was farcical and issues I will take up with #Virginaustralia. A huge thank you to Ronaldo and the team at McAlpine House, you demonstrated a wonderful example of customer services, if you are looking to jump ship, Virgin Australia needs you!!!

A highlight of our trip to Broome was staying at McAlpine House. This is boutique accommodation at its best. The hospitality afforded to us by the divine and gracious host Marilynne was what made the stay so special. Marilynne’s knowledge of the local environs is second to none and she knows a thing or two about the pearling industry too. Rinaldo was great at organising tours and transports and even managed to get us into some hard to book restaurants. We stayed in the McAlpine suite which has a lovely sized room that included a claw foot bath. And the Christian Lacroix toiletries made it extra special. Not to mention the delightful range of Fortnum & Mason teas available at breakfast.

This is a small boutique guesthouse where you arrive as a guest and leave feeling like family - like a home away from home. Having caught a transfer bus from the airport in the midst of peak tourist season we got to see a lot of the other accommodation in town and we were so glad when we arrived here. It is small and tranquil and offers a true escape from the hussle and bussle of the this busy tourist destination. Our room (the McAlpine Suite) was exceptionally comfortable and had everything we needed. The pool was great relief from the heat of the day and there were plenty of places where you could sit and chat or read a book - very relaxing all round! Breakfast is included but you will need to get lunch and dinner elsewhere. Having said that the bus stop for the town bus is just around the corner and there are some restaurants and a brewery within easy walking distance. I definitely would stay here again when I return to Broome!

We recently spent two nights at Pinctada McAlpine House. What a gorgeous place! On arrival we were welcomed by our host, Marilynne, who is an elegant, lovely lady. We also met her corgi, Lewellyn, who was personality-plus and a very sweet little dog. We stayed in the Pearlers Verandah Room which is a tastefully decorated room with a large ensuite. French doors open up onto a verandah which overlooks the garden where we spent time reading while enjoying a cool breeze and a glass of wine. There is a secure parking area at the back of the house with a remote-controlled lockable gate to keep your car safe. A hot breakfast is served each morning on the verandah near the pool where you can sit at a large dining table, if you love a chat like we do, and get acquainted with the other guests or you can sit quietly at a smaller separate table if you prefer your privacy. Marilynne is a very interesting lady to talk to and was extremely gracious and welcoming during our stay. We had a relaxing two nights at Pinctada McAlpine House. It is a very peaceful place and, apart from leaving our room for a bus tour or an occasional drive around town (which were all close by), we were easily able to unwind and relax. We would highly recommend Pinctada McAlpine House.

We stayed for five nights over two stays. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, Rinaldo's breakfasts were delicious and the accommodation very comfortable. Our room (same one twice) could do with a little update - getting tired!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at this historic 8- room house. Our room was filled with bespoke furniture and artwork. Comfortable KS bed. Shutters give a relaxed feel. The central courtyard pool was a welcome oasis. Breakfast in a shared space by the pool with a hot dish to suit your taste- something different each day. Secure car park. Washing can be done - washed, hung and folded for $10 the lot. Personalised service from owners, Maralyn and Gary- who know Broome well.

We spent five nights here and loved it. It is so beautiful and relaxing with wonderful and informative hosts. We were in one of the garden suites that were built more recently and are so well designed. The bed is very comfortable with beautiful linen and there are lovely toiletries in the bathroom. Good reading lights were very welcome. Every detail has been thought through carefully. Breakfast is served in the morning and a different hot dish prepared each day. Ronaldo gave us fantastic advice about the restaurants we should go to , as well as coffee shops and galleries. Pinctada McAlpine House is a very special little hotel with a fascination history and we felt lucky to have stayed there.
