As soon as you step through the modest white picket gate onto a path sprinkled with frangipani flowers and shaded by towering palm trees, you know instantly that you are entering a special place of relaxation and solitude. The former home of Lord McAlpine, Pinctada McAlpine House has been meticulously converted into a private 8-room lodge - perhaps 'oasis' is a more fitting description. A subtle blend of historical charm and modern facilities makes McAlpine House the perfect place to reawaken the spirit. Wide open verandahs and polished timber floors complement a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere which slowly extinguishes your sense of time. We encourage you to make our boutique lodge your home for as long as you stay. By day, the atmosphere is shaped as much by the lush tropical gardens and exotic birds as it is by the personalised attentive service. At night, enjoy a moment of calm by the turquoise waters of a pool lit by a myriad of tiny lights. World class resort? Private retreat? Luxury guest house? McAlpine House defies classification, and that is precisely why it is such a unique place to completely rejuvenate your soul. With just eight rooms - each with its own style and private outdoor escape, a sense of space and escape is blended with a feel of intimacy and serenity. Create your own world among the original artwork and decor reflecting the unique colours and textures of the Kimberley, or step outside to explore the wonder, beauty and contrasts of Broome's azure waters, sweeping white beaches, distinctive red earth and eclectic culture.

Detailed Reviews
Wonderful experience staying in the original 1910 Pearler's Veranda room with three separate seating spaces entirely for our use on the veranda with the pool outside our door. Delicious breakfast provided by Ronaldo who also gave us heaps of useful information for our stay. There is a bus stop a five minute walk away which runs on the half hour to Cable Beach, Chinatown, Matsos Brewery (which is a 10 minute walk), even the airport car hire hub. McAlpine House is not luxurious in the usual sense - bathroom amenities are basic for example - but the luxury is in the service and surroundings and staying in a symbol of Broome history

On arrival we were met by our gracious hosts
The surroundings were peaceful, surrounded by large trees and boasted of a clean pool
Our accommodation was in the Library room, it was in the older part of the premises but we loved it. Old word charm., with a comfortable bed and a decent shower. Loved the floor boards and the outside room patio areas, just perfect for relaxing. A moderate walk to town central but that did not bother us.
Breakfast was superb with personal dishes made, coffee superb and the service man excellent, very obliging and friendly.
Cannot recommend this serene accommodation enough, but if you are looking for mass people, queues, noisy surrounds this is not your scene.
Congratulations to the owners and managers of this pearl accommodation in a remote area. Worth the modest Tarif.
Cheers

First visit to Broome.. we are used to travelling the world and always prefer to stay in small boutique hotels for special and unique experiences and were a bit disappointed with the selection of large resort style hotels on offer in Broome. Thank heavens we found McAlpine House. Everything was perfect. Room super comfortable with great air con.. we had one of the new Garden suites but the heritage style rooms looked beautiful too. Pool was quiet and gorgeously warm. Breakfast was exceptional - every day the most beautifully crafted breakfast selections served to us. We felt so welcome and spoilt under the loving care of Marilyn and Ronaldo. Learnt a lot from them about where to visit. Spent most evenings at Matso's which is just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. So much better than staying near Cable Beach as you have easy access to town. We felt we were in our own private luxury home and enjoyed everything about our stay

Response from Marilynne Paspaley, Owner at Pinctada McAlpine House
Responded 8 Mar 2021
Dear Captain 1958, thank you for your very positive review. It is a great start to the year for us. I am so pleased Ronaldo's excellent cooking and care was so appreciated, as well as your enjoyment of the property. Perhaps we will see you again in the future and if so, certainly look forward to it. Warm regards, Marilynne

We recently spent two nights at Pinctada McAlpine House. What a gorgeous place! On arrival we were welcomed by our host, Marilynne, who is an elegant, lovely lady. We also met her corgi, Lewellyn, who was personality-plus and a very sweet little dog. We stayed in the Pearlers Verandah Room which is a tastefully decorated room with a large ensuite. French doors open up onto a verandah which overlooks the garden where we spent time reading while enjoying a cool breeze and a glass of wine. There is a secure parking area at the back of the house with a remote-controlled lockable gate to keep your car safe. A hot breakfast is served each morning on the verandah near the pool where you can sit at a large dining table, if you love a chat like we do, and get acquainted with the other guests or you can sit quietly at a smaller separate table if you prefer your privacy. Marilynne is a very interesting lady to talk to and was extremely gracious and welcoming during our stay. We had a relaxing two nights at Pinctada McAlpine House. It is a very peaceful place and, apart from leaving our room for a bus tour or an occasional drive around town (which were all close by), we were easily able to unwind and relax. We would highly recommend Pinctada McAlpine House.

A safe and secure oasis surrounded by beautiful frangipani trees which had the most beautiful perfume.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Ronaldo checked us in and then shared his knowledge and tips on where to go and what to see.
We enjoyed meeting other guests each morning at breakfast. We were served freshly made coffee or we could choose from a selection of leaf tea and make a fresh pot of our choosing.
The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. It was well stocked with toiletries including 3 ply toilet paper. The bath towels were a generous size as were the beach towels.
We knew our rental car was safe any time we were parked there because the cars were behind a secure fence and gate.
We would highly recommend you book a stay here, you won’t be disappointed.

Beautiful and peaceful setting, this is a small boutique hotel with charm, character and history. Kept very clean by the resident Manager, chef, maintainer and gardener, Ronaldo, although I’m assured he has help when really busy! Ronaldo was as much a part of the experience as the property. His visiting tips were spot on, breakfast delicious, little touches (plate and cheese knife, champagne flutes all appeared in room when we placed items in the room fridge) and he also organised an artisan birthday cake following a prior request. I hope the owners realise his worth.
Room was very comfortable, pool is great and quiet under the palm canopy. We also had secure driveway parking included for out hire car behind a remote-controlled gate; a significant advantage in Broome currently. Didn’t request dinner here but sure it would be good.
We will always consider McAlpine house for any future stays in Broome.

We spent five nights here and loved it. It is so beautiful and relaxing with wonderful and informative hosts. We were in one of the garden suites that were built more recently and are so well designed. The bed is very comfortable with beautiful linen and there are lovely toiletries in the bathroom. Good reading lights were very welcome. Every detail has been thought through carefully.
Breakfast is served in the morning and a different hot dish prepared each day.
Ronaldo gave us fantastic advice about the restaurants we should go to , as well as coffee shops and galleries.
Pinctada McAlpine House is a very special little hotel with a fascination history and we felt lucky to have stayed there.

A trip back in time in both location and service. Marilynne, owner, and Ronaldo, manager, provide the outstanding customer experience this historic property deserves. We stayed in the McAlpine Suite, lots of space, great air conditioning, double sink and toilet, bath and powerful shower. Sitting by the pool or on the verandah was very peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast was more than we expected, home made yoghurt pot, toast from freshly made bread, cereals, coffee/tea/water and then a cooked item changed daily, mushrooms on toast the best of a great selection. One suggestion would be a fresh juice option. Property is secure with an electric gate car park and monitored CCTV. A few great eating places nearby Wildflower, Papa Fuegos, Mangrove Hotel and Matsos being the best. Be sure to look out for Llewelyn the Pembrokeshire Corgi, he’s not around most of the day but turns up for tickles now and again. A few meets with him and you’ll see why it’s the Queens dog of choice. Other rooms seem smaller but to be honest there are so many places in the shade or sun you’ll feel like you’re in a room in a big house. We didn’t use it much but the TV was large, normally not the case in older properties. We’ll be back to Broome and would stay here every time. Relax, think early 1900s and give it a try. Oh, and Marilynne knows Broome better than anybody so ask for hints and tips on getting into restaurants etc.

We arrived for a whistle stop visit on the 17th October for 2 nights. Journey by taxi to the hotel took around 5 minutes, all nice and simple. Upon arrival we met with the wonderful Ronaldo, do not underestimate what this person can do, nothing appears to phase him and he has an answer for everything. Check in was quick and simple process, as was a brief explanation of where we were and what was available. The property is a timeless wonder, we hate the corporate marble floor and characterless interior and this place is the complete opposite, thankfully. Quirky nooks and crannies everywhere, creaking floorboards and doors to be opened, uneven floorboards, see your case rolling off is a joy to behold, it’s wonderful, the character in this place is brilliant.
We were staying in room 2, the library, now the first floor, we had our own seating area which was comfortable and practical. the bedroom had a bed, side tables chair, tv, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, you need to survive. The bathroom was a good size and covered all our needs.
Breakfast is a joy, sitting around a large dining table with other guests sharing stories of travels thus far, is a great start to the day, I’m a fussy vegetarian, but Ronaldo wasn’t to be beaten.
Our trip was due to conclude on the 19th with our flight back to Perth, but, thanks to and utter meltdown in customer services by Virgin Australia, that didn’t happen, once again Ronaldo to the rescue, we stayed another night. What then followed was farcical and issues I will take up with #Virginaustralia.
A huge thank you to Ronaldo and the team at McAlpine House, you demonstrated a wonderful example of customer services, if you are looking to jump ship, Virgin Australia needs you!!!

I stayed at beautiful McAlpine house for 8 days after working in Broome for 5 weeks. It was absolutely beautiful. Marilynne, Gary and Ronaldo were super welcoming and kind. The breakfast was gorgeous, and it was also really fun as you would meet the other guests, although not forced upon you or invasive- just if you felt like a chat. The architecture is stunning, and the whole stay was beyond enjoyable. Would really recommend as you also get a feel of the incredibly interesting history of Broome whilst you’re there. Can’t wait to return! Also the pooch is just the best, missing Llewellyn and his glorious pelt/ coat. 5 stars!
