Yesterday I went to cable beach backpacker to say good a friend and the girl in the reception apparently “ABBI YOUNG” on Instagram was really unpolite. First, she asked me to fill a paper with all the visitors details in a bad mood, second I went to the bar at 9.50 and she was talking to another guest (she knew I was there) then she came to me almost at 10 and she shut the bar in front of me, I asked to get a beer and she said (not even 10) I don't care (for me she was racist) third she went to kick us out very rude. I can understand the rules of every place but she was annoying us from the beginning, the BAD mood of the girl me fell so upset. I've been visiting friends in cable beach backpacks since 2019, and this is the first time that I feel everyone is in the same situation, people is unhappy with her, she is annoying even with the gust from the hostel.

TLDR: seems to be popular with long-stayers. Don’t expect help with issues unless on first-name basis with management, the rooms are “too cheap” for that. The thought behind the poor rating is that had there been no issues during my stay, I would have rated the place as average, and had my issue been dealt with differently I would have given the place a good rating. However, such is not the case. The rooms are as expected from the very low price, it’s just two bunk-beds in a small blue room. I had no issue with this since I tend to not spend much time in the hotel anyway. When I arrived, however, I soon met two girls who informed me that they weren’t staying in my room, in which four girls including me were staying, but they were going to move in soon and were for now just keeping their stuff in the room. I didn’t want to make a fuss, so I didn’t bring it up with management at first. It did however bother me, because this meant that it wasn’t just four people coming and going in the room, sometimes very late, but six. I felt that paying full price for a room with two extra people in there hardly seemed fair, and so I told management. Management’s response was to huff that I hadn’t brought it up sooner, and then go looking for the other girls staying in my room to ask them about it. When they couldn’t find them they informed me that they would look into it and get back to me the next day. I was checking out the next day but that morning they still hadn’t spoken to the other girls (not sure why that had to be done first 🤷‍♀️). I left my bag behind reception to come get later and told them I’d be back at around 5pm. When I got back the person I had spoken to wasn’t there, but the person in reception told me that I would not receive any compensation because: I had already payed, the room was really cheap, and they couldn’t control if the girls did this kind of thing. I didn’t argue, because it was clearly not there decision to change. The fact that I had payed is irrelevant, and for a hotel to not be able to control how their rooms are used is worrying. As for the fact that the rooms are cheap, yes, for a four-bed dorm. I didn’t stay in a four-bed dorm however, but a four-bed dorm also used as a storage unit. I would like to add that the vibe here is very much that everyone stays for a long-time, so the staff and guests are close and seem to be friends. Perhaps the service is better once you get on a first-name basis with management. The pool area is very nice and the toilets are mostly clean. I didn’t use the kitchen so I can’t say anything about that.

I stayed here in March with my gal pal as a half way point travelling from Perth to Darwin in the van, and we extended an extra two nights. This is hands down the best hostel I've stayed in. If you guys offer sponsorship, Let me know, i'd love to work for you! Met the best people, staff were awesome, best location. The pool.. oh the pool, hammocks. Perfection. Also always playing wicked music. Thank so much guys. Will forever recommend, and would love to come back! Shannon and Jo

I stayed at this hostel for over 3months during my backpacking time in Broome and can say it was the most inclusive, friendly and well-kept hostel I’ve stayed in! The staff are fun, friendly and always helpful - be sure to ask for Alannah during your stay as she is full of information and is always up for ensuring you have the best time during your stay! 10/10 recommendation!

Absolutely loved my stay. I was only there for two nights but am definitely going back next time I'm in Broome. Everyone always talks about the YHA, but I found it quite impersonal and lacking character. If you prefer the real, typical backpackers vibe, as I do: Cable Beach Backpackers is the way to go for sure! Great family atmosphere: a lot of long-termers who know each other, yet make you feel welcome and invite you into the group right away . The owners were really friendly and accommodating as well, hostel was clean, very cheap for the size of the dorms and has a huge amount of showers/toilets for its size. See you guys after our boat's next unload :)

It was an ok hostel as far as any hostel goes, nice hammocks, pool and free bbq the night we arrived, quite nice and friendly guests. However wifi was ok, but doesn't reach all rooms. All the rooms are located around the reception common area so if someone is upp partying you'll DEFINITELY hear them from your room and no one seemed to make an effort in trying to make people keep it down. If you need wifi to call someone or watch a movie it's a bit annoying as you have to sit in the common area to have wifi, which unfortunately means you'll be disturbed both by people chatting and by reception BLASTING music (not necessarily good music either). You can use their tv to watch netflix and movies which WOULD be cool, but again this is located right between the bar/reception and the common area. So again, you wont hear anything. As far as service goes they weren't rude, but not friendly. Clear that it is people who live there who just work in reception which leads to more "we are nice to our friends"-sorta thing, which I think is unprofessional. Time and time again I would either feel like I interrupted the staff when they had a convo with their friend and felt like an inconvenience or was myself interrupted while they were checking me out while also checking someone else in simultaneously. When I went to pay with cash one night I was told the girl had already cashed up and would have to pay by card eventhough there is a cardfee AND they were still open to sell drinks. Just seems dumb. But I agreed because I didn't want to make a fuss only to see the staff let her friend pay for a drink with cash just a second later. Rude!! Kitchen closed at 10pm which is fair, however that just meant that you can't reach ANYTHING you want even cold after 10pm (no cold drinks as the bar closes then as well) as well as you can't get boiled water OR regular tapwater unless you want to make a mess in the bathroom sinks. Quite inconvenient. To top everything off we were told this hostel is more pricey as they are "a better hostel than the others" - what a joke. We are now staying at the yha which has the same things only better, for less money! Also Cable beach hostel has a bad location with an HOUR walk to the towncenter. Only stay here if you are so in love with the beach that you would rather take the bus into town than to the beach...

Response from cbbpackers, Guest Relations Manager at Cable Beach Backpackers
Responded 7 June 2019
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We very much appreciate your honest feedback. We have a noise curfew of10:30pm Weekdays and 11pm on weekends and we try to police this as much as we can. We try to provide the best Wifi we can to our guests however being in such an isolated town and with current NBN upgrades happening we have to be patient - It is however getting better and better! Please if you decide to stay again let us know what music you would like to listen to, we are very open with adding playlists and songs to list - we want everyone to have a great time! The music turns off after 10pm and that is when most people choose to take advantage of the TV - again please let us know if you would like to turn the music down so you can enjoy a movie. Our staff do live on site and we encourage friendships between guests and staff, none of our guests are an inconvenience and apologies if you felt that way! Please if you do decided to stay again let us know your problems and any issues you may be having so we can address them, we want everyone to walk away having a great stay! We hope your enjoy the rest of your time here in Broome. Kind Regards, Cable Beach Backpackers.
