Detailed Reviews
I stayed here in March with my gal pal as a half way point travelling from Perth to Darwin in the van, and we extended an extra two nights. This is hands down the best hostel I've stayed in. If you guys offer sponsorship, Let me know, i'd love to work for you!
Met the best people, staff were awesome, best location. The pool.. oh the pool, hammocks. Perfection. Also always playing wicked music.
Thank so much guys. Will forever recommend, and would love to come back!

I enjoyed staying here. I had no issues with the hostel washer and dryer and it only took one hour. They have powerpoints for charging electronic devices which I liked. They allow you to store your luggage if your departure time is much later than your checkout time which was the case with me. I came back to the hostel and had time to kill before my taxi ride to the airport and they allowed me to use the pool. The pool was very cool and soothing and a very welcome break from the scorching hot day. They have fridges to store food. I would recommend that this backpackers built and installed some personal lockers in the rooms because they were none and lockers will mean your personal items you don't want to lose are safer. The backpackers staff actually walked with me to show me my room which was going the extra mile. This backpackers also has a small area where you can buy cold drinks.

Stayed here in June of `03...One of the best hostels in OZ..very friendly vibe..clean, basic, nice little pool, and best of all location!! 5 min walk to one of the best beaches and probably the best sunsets in all of Australia. Broome-Cable Beach was by far my favourite place in all of Australia.

Yesterday I went to cable beach backpacker to say good a friend and the girl in the reception apparently “ABBI YOUNG” on Instagram was really unpolite. First, she asked me to fill a paper with all the visitors details in a bad mood, second I went to the bar at 9.50 and she was talking to another guest (she knew I was there) then she came to me almost at 10 and she shut the bar in front of me, I asked to get a beer and she said (not even 10) I don't care (for me she was racist) third she went to kick us out very rude. I can understand the rules of every place but she was annoying us from the beginning, the BAD mood of the girl me fell so upset. I've been visiting friends in cable beach backpacks since 2019, and this is the first time that I feel everyone is in the same situation, people is unhappy with her, she is annoying even with the gust from the hostel.

Free shuttle to the town centre was a nice surprise. Staff very friendly. As a non smoker I would've liked the non smoking in communal places to have been inforced. Four non smoking signs visible but it was a smokers paradise. The toilets need improved ventilation and proper bins for female sanitary products. With simple open bins ants were a huge issue. Rooms were basic but comfortable (stayed in a 4 bed dorm). The kitchen was always a battle ground. Not enough room in the fridges, work benches or pots/pans. Noise levels were my main grievance. Partying till 4am and the general rowdy behaviour started to get on my nerves, this is no place for book worms.

We stayed here for only one night as my friend caught bed bugs here. In the morning when we showed the manager the sheets with bed bugs on it he just said ah, ok then. We got our money back & moved to Beaches of Broome next door (amazing hostel, beautiful).
My friend's bites were pretty bad & she had to go to the doctor for medication. When we told the management this they didn't think it was a big deal. When we told the management that they should pay for the medication as she had picked up the bugs in their hostel they got agressive & told us we should claim it back on our personal travel insurance. This is a badly run hostel, with a filty kitchen & (obviously) very dirty beds.
Over the coming days we met a number of people who had caught bed bugs there, management don't care & won't fix the problem!
DON'T STAY HERE!

Response from AthonyV66, Owner at Cable Beach Backpackers
Responded 31 May 2009
This complaint and the one below are from the same group that stayed at the backpackers. Its not true that we do nothing about it, quite the opposite. When bed bugs are identified, the room is quarrantined along with the guests clothing etc. We provide our washing machines and dryers at no cost . The room is thouroughly cleaned using a steam cleaner which costs approximately $3000 and is strip bare, the whole process takes about 4 hours. In addition as a preventitive it is a routine of our cleaners to check and spray the rooms on a regular basis. In regards to this particular complaint we dont know if in fact they were the carriers of the bed bugs and were the ones that introduced them into our backpackers. We are very conscious of this problem and have always been procactive in dealing with this on going problem.

We stayed in a smalle double room, which was basically a closet with a bed. The bathrooms are dirty and there aren't enough. The kitchen is dirty, you have pay a deposit for your plates and cutlery and even then you don't get a complete set. The staff was very rude to us when we asked for a complete set. There are hardly any pans in the kitchen to use. The other communal areas are dirty. When we were there the dryer, pay phone and big screen tv were broken. They clearly only survive of the tour groups coming here, wouldn't stay here again.

Myself and my girlfriend were not impressed with this backpackers. Most of the all male staff were only interested in single young females.
There wasn't a very friendly vibe here at all. The room we had was clean and adequate but windowless and dark. The pool is too small to swim in but it is close to cable beach. They make you pay for boogie/surf board hire but that comes free in other hostels.
On the day we left they even sent people to move into our room while we were asleep at 8:30, well before the 10:00 check out time. We just got the impression that they couldn't be bothered. This was the first backpackers we stayed in in Australia and it turned out to be the least favourite of our whole trip.

I've been travelling around Australia for 5 months now, I know what standard hostel should be, and this hostel is definitely the WORST one ever!
1. Toilet is always dirty, dirty floor with dirty footprints. Soap dispenser is never refilled, not hygienic at all! And it is smelly! I would rather go to a public toilet at least I can wash my hands afterwards.
2. The rules in this backpackers are never enforced. Noise and music continue until maybe after 2am! And it happens everynight! Ridiculous! People smoke in the common area. When you wake up you find empty beer bottles and cigarettes everywhere, disgusting!
3. Kitchens are full of flies with pans and pots in the sink never being washed. No one clean after their mess at all.
4. The rubbish bin in my room was never emptied during my 5 nights stay. And I found old chewed chewing gum sticking to the pole at the end of my bed, how disgusting!
5. Only 2 sockets in a 4-bed dorm, obviously not enough.
6. Yes this hostel has no system at all, it is said that kitchen is open from 6am to 10pm, but on my last day some of us waited and waited until 7:15am for the kitchen to open. Unacceptable! Mind you, the music from the bar is on at 6am. So what is the staff doing there? Turning on the music first thing, but not opening the kitchen!
Don't give any excuse by saying "don't expect more than what you pay for", cuz this hostel is not cheap at all, and I've been to so many hostels with similar price (or even cheaper) but much much better than this rubbish hostel.
If you like party all night, drink and smoke, don't want to clean up your mess, this is definitely the place for you! Otherwise, look for another place. This is certainly not the only backpackers at Cable Beach. My friend stayed at Beaches of Broome and she highly recommends it. (So does Lonely Planet in fact)

Response from cbbpackers, Owner at Cable Beach Backpackers
Responded 16 Sept 2015
Please know we are extremely sorry you left feeling like this, it is obviously our intention to provide an enjoyable and fun experience for our guests. Your review is a very long and detailed one, it is also regrettably, a very damaging one. I only wish you brought some of these matters to our attention during your stay so we could at least attempt to address them for you and at the very best offer an explanation. We would have been happy to compensate you or try and relocate you. I am not offering excuses for your experience (nor should there be any), however while you were staying with us, (over the busiest week in Broome's yearly calendar), our full-time cleaner met with a sudden accident and was unable to work. Unfortunately during this timeframe, we were forced into the position of using a couple of inexperienced 'volunteer' cleaners doing their best until we could provide a full-time backstop cleaner. While both their and our own intentions were a genuine effort, we concede the standard of cleaning was not up to our usual high standard. We definitely did have a few issues with noise-control over this period as we were hosting two out-of-town soccer clubs in town competing in the Kimberley Championships (40 guys aged 18-25), and we were 100% booked to-boot. These teams did indeed enjoy their success at the expense of annoying others. Every effort was made to control the noise and get them off to bed as soon as we could, unfortunately, this did take some time. With regards to staying at Beaches instead: Our intention is to offer basic budget accommodation to the young budget traveller aged between 18-25 and we are very well priced to reflect this. The rate $$ difference between Beaches of Broome and Cable Beach Backpackers in incomparable, we are the cheapest in town by a long shot. Our four bed dorms ($30) being much cheaper to their 6 & 5 bed dorms ($37). Their double rooms $180pn vs ours @ $80pn. Broome while being absolutely stunningly beautiful, is a very unique isolated location subjected to heavy utility costs and environmental weather conditions and can't possibly be compared to other locations in Australia that you have stayed in over the last 5 months. With the upmost of respect,

The bathrooms are dirty, even to backpackers standards. The kitchen is dirty as well, no one cares to clean up their pans and pots after use, disgusting. Also, the kitchen was WAY to hot, i got dizzy after a few minutes in there - it definitely needs a better ventilation system.
the rooms are ok, basic but no complaints there.
the biggest issue however was the constant noise. there's no way you can get a good nights rest at this hostel. the walls are very thin, and people party and drink all night long with very loud music. you'll have a great time if you want to be drunk 24/7, about half of the hostel starts drinking at 10am and stops again at around 4am.
the location is very convenient, the beach is just a 5 min walk away. the shuttle bus is also convenient, however the times of it running not so very much. airport pick up is a nice supplement, I however had to wait for 45 minutes to be picked up, even though i arranged the pick up about a month prior to arrival.
all in all: thanks, but no thanks. i won't be back for sure.

I cant say i had any problems with the property or staff. That was until someone took upon themselves to be a part- time investigator. If this is your desired career might i encourage you to join one that requires such vigilence. Yes ive relocated to broome for a change of scene much like the staff you have working with you who also do not have contacts family or friends here. It is a transient place, people arrivs here for a different experience. ALL OF WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU. If you dont like people putting you in your place, then begave like the 42year old man you are. This will not settle until you realise, you are not only wrong, but have been obstinant, arrogant and cburlish in your pursuit of this. Please have the manager call me and apologise on your behalf and ill remove this post. Yes an apology is warranted and necessary. I am aa decent person, who booked and paid for accommodation at your hostel. Treating someone like this is wrong.
