Detailed Reviews
This hotel is in a great location, 10 min walk to Cable beach and a general store and pub 5 min walk. Sadly the staff just don’t seem to have much knowledge at the front desk. When asking a question they don’t know the answer to, I’d expect an answer of “I’ll find out for you, not I don’t know anything about that”. This was the response we got when asking if we could have late check out and that we were happy to pay a half day room rate or fee. We had already been told our room was not having any guests check in when we checked out. Cleaners did a great job! Hope they enjoyed the Thankyou tip we left them. Pool area is great but the staff just need to work on service, cleaning tables etc. Our room was great, big and great spot. Just the service.
We still don’t know if breakfast was included, nobody told us it was, but while waiting for a taxi on leaving we heard a guest told it was. To the new owners, you have a gem of a hotel it just needs staff to put in a bit more effort.

Response from Andrew Russell, General Manager at Kimberley Sands Resort
Responded 6 July 2021
Thank you for your review and your comments, and I most certainly do take them on. Finding local staff, who also have knowledge of the area has been a nightmare. All but 4 of our staff are backpackers in saying that we do get great comments on their service so not sure what happened during your stay.

Firstly would like to say, love this resort and location, and will definitely stay here again.
However will never eat at this location again until they replace the chef the quality of food was extremely disappointing.
We booked to have Christmas dinner @$80ea, alarm bells should have been ringing loud, when the resort contacted me 2 days prior to Xmas day to ask if I could review the menu and confirm our options for the 3 course meal, so the chef could pre prepare the food.
The restaurant area had absolutely no Xmas feel, no decorations within the room or on the tables, the serving staff had no idea, after waiting 20mins to place a drink order, we ordered a bottle of SSB, only be asked by the staff member taking the order “what’s that”.
We observed another table that ordered a bottle of champagne have to take over and show the staff member how to remove the wire from the cork and open the bottle.
When the food finally arrived, it was clear it had been pre prepared some time earlier and just kept warm, as all courses were dried out to the stage were it was inedible..
When we complained the Manager was quick to say, “well we’ve had nothing but good comments”.
Maybe they had good comments from the earlier lunch setting, as the food may have been fresher..
The rooms are a great size and well appointed.
The pool area is nice, however needs a few maintenance issues rectified.
Good luck trying to get a drink at the bar during happy hour, not because they were busy, just so slow.
We found ourselves walking to the Divers Tavern, buying drinks from the bottle shop, and returning to the resort to enjoy them.
We were more than happy to buy drinks from the resort but don’t need to wait 25 mins to order a drink while on holidays.
I suggest the chef and management visit the Divers tavern and the sunset bar at cable beach to check out the menu, quality of food and how efficient the staff at these locations are, and implement a few changes to improve there offering.

The Kimberley Sands Resort, Broome
Our group stayed for three nights here in May 2022.
Some of us arrived from the airport at 6.30pm, only to find the place in darkness. One of the group had to go to the bar area to find someone to give us our keys.
It was very hard to work out the lighting system, which is controlled by small wall panels throughout the room, at night, in the dark, it was a bit hard to find out what was what at first.
My room was a lovely surprise, very large, with a king-sized bed, lounge, small desk area with one chair, and a lovely courtyard, with a gate through to the pool - a keypad code is needed to access the gate from the pool.
The bathroom was also large, with a walk-in shower, but sometimes even after running the hot water tap for quite a long time in the mornings, the water never got hotter than just over tepid – I hate wasting water. It was hot in the middle of the day. Good amenities were supplied.
The hair dryer and a small safe are in the cupboards under the vanity bench.
Behind the bedhead is a large cupboard, drawer combination, with the best storage I have seen for a long time. The hangers are not the frustrating hook off type, but proper hangers – what a bonus.
The frig and tea/coffee making supplies are in here as well, and there is an ironing board, iron, fly spray as well.
The aircon is efficient and there is an overhead fan in the main area.
The internet was good, but tended to drop out unexpectedly – but this may be an area problem.
The very large pool has excellent access into it, and was sparkling and refreshing on a hot day.
Our Continental “breakfast” was included in the group package – it wasn’t open until 8am and is one of the most basic. Two types of cereal, only white bread for toast, marmalade or strawberry jam, basic fruit selection, yoghurt, sometimes one, sometimes two types of cake. Selection of tea bags and a coffee machine.
At $25 it certainly did not live up to the “Resort” title.
There is really nothing much within walking distance around the Kimberley Sands Resort, however the Broome Explorer bus travels between Cable Beach and Town Beach.
For the bus stop to central Broome and Town Beach, turn left and it is on the same side of the road. For the bus to Cable Beach, the stop is a little further down on the other side of the road, near the caravan park. Concession and day passes are available – timetables, maps etc., are available from near reception.
As there is no transport in the evenings, last bus returns to Kimberley Sands Resort before 6.30pm, many people shopped

Just got back from a 7 nights stay. First time in Broome and it was fabulous.
Resort;
* The best pool out of all the hotels in this area, we checked them all out and without a doubt the best. Checked out Cable Beach resort and preferred Kimberley Sands
* We had a pool view room top floor. Room big with a huge bathroom. Fridge is big so fits lots of things, top freezer part tiny, enough for ice cube trays though.
Rooms were cleaned late afternoon and spotless
* Did not eat in restaurant but seemed to be busy and people said good
* location is a 10-15 minute walk to Cable Beach right next door to Bali Hai. Bali Hai not so nice and pool shaded and not to our taste.
The only minor thing was the coldish customer service from the ladies at reception. A warm welcoming smile goes a long way.
All in all a great resort and would stay again.

The rooms was nice and spacious although could do with a bit of a spruce up.
The service for our three night stay was terrible! We had organised for a cot to be in our room via email prior to arriving on checkin there was no cot, when we asked reception we were told they checked their emails and we never emailed, I still have the email on my phone which they replied to
The restaurant staff member was rude! We had multiple family members make the same comment & yelled at another staff member in front of guests. When we asked for a menu during happy hour we were told no and the guy just rambled off the cocktails so fast we couldn’t understand. Multiple people we’re almost charged twice for the one drink & the wrong cocktails were served.
Only ate at the restaurant once as the pulled pork burger was as stale and tasteless as if it was days old and the steak was over cooked and tough.
We wouldn’t stay again based on the service we received

Thank you for your review and I apologise that the cot was not placed in your room as you requested and our front office staff have been spoken to about your complaint, your comments about the restaurant staff I find very surprising as they get fantastic reviews about their service as stated in many of our reviews.

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of a long road trip. We really liked our room - top floor overlooking the pool, it was clean, spacious and comfortable with a very comfortable bed and all the amenities you would expect. The pool area was nice but needed some work. Broken tiles, inexplicable little pools with plastic pipes spurting water into the air - that sort of thing. It felt a bit tired and the cheesy music didn't help. We had dinner one night and again our experience was good, with small details preventing the experience from being excellent. It was clear from the outset that the restaurant was short staffed and that the staff they had were inexperienced. I believe that's a universal problem in Broome. The food was okay but my steak was unevenly cut meaning one end was rare and the other well done, and it was absolutely smothered in garlic. My wife's fish was tasty but slightly underdone. The front of house staff tried very hard but were clearly stressed and challenged. Small touches could easily be employed to improve the ambiance of the restaurant. Lighting was uneven - we sat under harsh bright light while other tables were in near darkness. With some work a tropical garden area adjacent to the restaurant with tiki torches would make a delightful al fresco dining area. Cheesy power ballads further eroded the atmosphere. Overall we had a good stay. Kimberley Sands could be a wonderful resort.

+1
Stayed here on a Scenic trip. Supposed to be 4.5 -5 Star but there is no way it can rate any more than 3. On first appearance the rooms look lovely, well appointed and the grounds are lovely.
We stayed in room 107, others stayed on different floors but the best set out rooms are the villas out the back. Our ground floor room with direct entry from a large courtyard to the pool was about the only positive.
I can sympathise they were short staffed but the reception staff are far from friendly and I would go as far to say lazy.
Our room was dusty. The slats behind the bed and under the furniture hadn’t been dusted for a long time.
The shower had sand in it when we arrived so clearly had not been cleaned and when I hosed it off with the shower hose the dirt that came from the grouting was thick and black. I bought this to the attention of the staff but it still was not cleaned on our 5 day stay.
Our room only got serviced every second day and they didn’t replace or give us clean coffee cups or glasses or even clean them. There was nothing to wash the cups with in our rooms either. Had to ask for coffee and milk constantly and even the toiletries were forgotten having to request shampoo or conditioner as they seemed to always forget to replace one or the other. The towels were thin and worn.
The air conditioning would not go below 26 and it really needed to be around 24 to be comfortable.
Then there was breakfast… nothing to write home about here.
The pool needs some TLC. Broken tiles or lose tiles and needs a good clean.
Kimberley Sands you really need to train your staff in house cleaning and customer service. This is the only thing that is letting your lovely resort down and that’s what we pay for and didn’t get. Very disappointing for 38 guests on our trip who all verbalised their disappointment. We had better food and rooms in some of the remote communities.

We stayed here for two nights after camping and travelling through the Kimberly’s. The 2nd floor room was clean. And that’s about the best thing I can say. It was quite obvious that the hotel is very short staffed. The staff they did have, although trying very hard were very inexperienced and unknowledgeable.
We asked for extra towels in the morning after our first night and was told that there weren’t any available until the afternoon and that we had to get them from reception ourselves. But this really wasn’t a big issue because as the water pressure in the shower was so poor, it was hard to get wet enough to even need a towel anyway.
Most of the channels on the TV did not work and we were told they were waiting on parts for there system.
There seemed to be a problem with the electrical system in the room. As the LED lights would randomly start flashing/Strobing.
There is no secure parking. On our first night five cars had there windows smash and broken into.
Most of these things aren’t big issues if you were staying at a budget hotel. But for a hotel that advertise itself as a five star resort (And charges $300 per night) it was very disappointing.

Reviews both good and bad are the only way a business can improve its services but only if they are truthful. Firstly nowhere on our website do we advertise that we are a 5 star resort in fact we don't have a star rating at all on the site. In regards to your maintenance issues; this is the first time we have ever had a complaint about water pressure and if you had reported it we would have looked into it straight away. You are correct about our Foxtel being down as we have been waiting for three new modules to be replaced as we had a power surge which blew them out, you are also correct in saying we don't have secure parking, as do all the properties in Cable Beach except one. We have security patrols every night but sadly we still get problems in the area. Regards Andrew Russell WA Operations Manager

Stayed here back in Sept (late getting my reviews in). The resort had been closed for a while, refurbishment undertaken and had only recently re-opened before we stayed there. Rooms were clean and facilities likewise, staff were helpful and courteous. We didn't eat at the restaurant as there was a change over with chefs and it was shut for a few days but we had several drinks from the bar. Good location at the start of the resort hotels, 10 min walk down to Cable Beach, bus stops close by and the Divers and general Store a few mins walk.

The Kimberley Sands is clearly a resort in decline since our first visit, when it was branded as the 5 star luxury accommodation known as Pinctada Resort.
However, having said that, we’ve had a marvellous holiday.
Sure the rooms could do with freshening up but we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
The resort is struggling with labour shortages like the rest of us during Covid but the staff they do have are doing a great job. They’re all friendly and helpful.
Special mention must go to the French chef who has been serving up delicious, high quality food.
The only (perplexing) downside was that the restaurant was closed on public holidays (including breakfast service) which was quite an issue over the Christmas/NY peak vacation period.
A number of revenue raising opportunities with high profit margins are being missed, such as poolside F & B service during the day and room service.
Unfortunately the only option for patrons with money in their pocket was an ice cream and drinks vending machine.
Currently the former 5 star resort is now operating around 3.5 stars but as I say, we had a great holiday.
Thanks everyone at KS - you’re the glue that’s holding it all together!
Best wishes for the coming re-branding.
A tip for travellers - the spa is closed so massages at outside outlets need to be booked a couple of weeks in advance, before you come up here.
