The room was a good size and well laid out with a nice view over the pool area. The resort is in a good location with only a short walk to Cable Beach, restaurants and Divers Tavern. Unfortunately, staff shortages due to Covid are causing some issues. The property would’ve been fantastic a few years ago when it was clean and tidy but at the moment it is in desperate need of an upgrade. The curtains in the room have holes in them from being moth eaten; the timber floors need sanding and coating; the towels are in need of replacing; the pool needs new waterline tiles and coping; they need an electrician to replace the 25% of lights that aren’t working throughout the resort; etc. etc. If this resort gets an update to return it to its former glory we would consider coming back.

The Kimberley Sands Resort, Broome Our group stayed for three nights here in May 2022. Some of us arrived from the airport at 6.30pm, only to find the place in darkness. One of the group had to go to the bar area to find someone to give us our keys. It was very hard to work out the lighting system, which is controlled by small wall panels throughout the room, at night, in the dark, it was a bit hard to find out what was what at first. My room was a lovely surprise, very large, with a king-sized bed, lounge, small desk area with one chair, and a lovely courtyard, with a gate through to the pool - a keypad code is needed to access the gate from the pool. The bathroom was also large, with a walk-in shower, but sometimes even after running the hot water tap for quite a long time in the mornings, the water never got hotter than just over tepid – I hate wasting water. It was hot in the middle of the day. Good amenities were supplied. The hair dryer and a small safe are in the cupboards under the vanity bench. Behind the bedhead is a large cupboard, drawer combination, with the best storage I have seen for a long time. The hangers are not the frustrating hook off type, but proper hangers – what a bonus. The frig and tea/coffee making supplies are in here as well, and there is an ironing board, iron, fly spray as well. The aircon is efficient and there is an overhead fan in the main area. The internet was good, but tended to drop out unexpectedly – but this may be an area problem. The very large pool has excellent access into it, and was sparkling and refreshing on a hot day. Our Continental “breakfast” was included in the group package – it wasn’t open until 8am and is one of the most basic. Two types of cereal, only white bread for toast, marmalade or strawberry jam, basic fruit selection, yoghurt, sometimes one, sometimes two types of cake. Selection of tea bags and a coffee machine. At $25 it certainly did not live up to the “Resort” title. There is really nothing much within walking distance around the Kimberley Sands Resort, however the Broome Explorer bus travels between Cable Beach and Town Beach. For the bus stop to central Broome and Town Beach, turn left and it is on the same side of the road. For the bus to Cable Beach, the stop is a little further down on the other side of the road, near the caravan park. Concession and day passes are available – timetables, maps etc., are available from near reception. As there is no transport in the evenings, last bus returns to Kimberley Sands Resort before 6.30pm, many people shopped

The Kimberley Sands is clearly a resort in decline since our first visit, when it was branded as the 5 star luxury accommodation known as Pinctada Resort. However, having said that, we’ve had a marvellous holiday. Sure the rooms could do with freshening up but we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The resort is struggling with labour shortages like the rest of us during Covid but the staff they do have are doing a great job. They’re all friendly and helpful. Special mention must go to the French chef who has been serving up delicious, high quality food. The only (perplexing) downside was that the restaurant was closed on public holidays (including breakfast service) which was quite an issue over the Christmas/NY peak vacation period. A number of revenue raising opportunities with high profit margins are being missed, such as poolside F & B service during the day and room service. Unfortunately the only option for patrons with money in their pocket was an ice cream and drinks vending machine. Currently the former 5 star resort is now operating around 3.5 stars but as I say, we had a great holiday. Thanks everyone at KS - you’re the glue that’s holding it all together! Best wishes for the coming re-branding. A tip for travellers - the spa is closed so massages at outside outlets need to be booked a couple of weeks in advance, before you come up here.

We booked 2 x rooms for Christmas and have just returned. This resort is definitely not 5 star - it would be lucky to be 2 star at best. Even though we flew in on Christmas eve, we were advised that the resort could not feed us at all on Christmas Day. Yes they had lunch and dinner scheduled, but appeared to put local residents before hotel occupants. Of our 5 day stay, the bar/restaurant was only opened on 2 of those afternoons. Our room was only serviced once, and looking at the colour of the bathroom floor mat - not very well. We checked in to no coffee pods or teabags. There was the biggest clump of black hair/sludge in the shower drain......which did not belong to either my husband or myself. Sadly, staff did not seem to care about the service -they were more interested in telling all that would listen that they were not being paid penalty rates (perhaps that equates to the service they were providing). This will definitely be a holiday we will never forget - unfortunately not for the good memories We spent nearly $3000 on 2 rooms, and we were not the only disappointed people staying there.

Stayed at this hotel and whilst there, observed a large amount of green algae in the swimming pool. Reported to GM who advised they will be changing maintenance routine as a result. Apparently chemical levels are checked by Clark Pools and Shire of Broome?
