I recently booked a Sunday night in a studio room and was upgraded to a two bedroom apartment. This was uneccessary as a solo guest but a nice surprise especially as I often travel with my young family and was curious as to whether the apartment would be suitable for us. I also paid $10 extra when booking for breakfast...

We stayed one night, checked in late at night, staff were very efficient, we were given an upgrade which was great. Our room was large and airy, furniture and utensils were all in excellent order, the bed was great. Breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts my husband and I have had. Wonderful array of food, including full cooked...

My husband, daughter, 11 month old granddaughter and I stayed at the Alto last weekend in what was listed as a Deluxe 2 bedroom apartment at very close to $500 a night. The staff are very helpful and courteous. The hotel is clean and well maintained, but the deluxe apartment is way overpriced for what you get and I've stayed...

It is nice to read that our guest service standards are appreciated as this is a major aim of our overall experience. Our location close to most attractions and very easy access to tram and trains is big plus for many of our guests. Average sizes of our rooms and apartments as well as features such as stairs are listed...

I have stayed here before, sometimes with work and sometimes on my own. We had a spa room with a fantastic huge bath, good bed with lovely bedding and the fold out was good too for my daughter. I like how close it is to the Southern Cross station and Spencer Street DFO, and you can't get lost if you...

We stayed at Alto on Bourke for 7 days during which we attended the 2014 International Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses and also had a few days sight seeing. We selected Alto because it had wheelchair accessible rooms as well as being close to our convention venue. We enjoyed the stay very much: the rooms were well appointed and the accessible...

The Alto on Bourke is our favourite apartment in Melbourne. Have stayed in this apartment before and enjoyed the central location to shops, restaurants, bus and train stations. Clean and friendly. It ticked all the boxes and will be staying again in the future

The Alto on Bourke is an extremely well-placed hotel in Melbourne, with an equally friendly and helpful staff. We were amazed at the quality and variety of food available in the dining room for both breakfast and dinner, and this was the one truly hi-tech hotel on our trip. Each room has its own wifi, and there is interactive TV...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
