The view from the club lounge is beautiful. Food is excellent. The club was busy but service was prompt.
I especially appreciate the kid pack they kindly provided us. My daughter still has the backpack, sunnies and bear. The pen was beautiful. I regret not pinching it.
They were very generous with toiletries. Body scrub and loofah were provided and I had never seen it happen in Melbourne before.
The Chuan Spa products were generously sized.
The whole feel of the hotel (Melba and the water fountain excepted) was outdated. We met some very friendly and kind housekeeping ladies who did excellent job during morning room service and nightly turndown service.
In fact, I appreciated and was amazed by them so much that I told everyone about it. They were very clean and one of them was very mindful and gave me an extra bottle of water, put them in the fridge like how I like them just because it was a hot day.
Thank you ladies, you were the best staff at Langham Melbourne in my eyes and your hardwork needs recognition.
Was a bit taken back to have a $100 holding fee taken at checkin and a second $150 holding fee once we ate at the restaurant (which I wasn't told about - I had to find out what the charge was for). We provided our credit card so charges could have been made post departure if there was any discrepancies.
It was lovely having our blinds drawn, bed turned down and slippers put out for us at night. the Valet parking guys were great and very efficient and friendly.
A small anniversary cake was sent to our room to share was a nice touch.
Room is maybe 20 years since a refurb, sticky carpet, tired hallways, clunky old bed (ensemble on wheels), whole thing felt a motel six or a best western (the kind where you park your car in front of the room - wall rattler aircon etc)
Breakfast was disgusting - inedible slop, i suspect powdered eggs, burnt coffee.
If this place was $175 a night i'd give it five stars, at this price its outrageous, poor value, tired product, knock it down, or rebrand maybe Ibis / Mercure ?
Their buffet to table concept is a mish mash of poorly prepared cheap ingredients, charged at an exorbitant $135/head and $80 for children.
Don't get me wrong.. $135 is fine, if the food was actually edible.
But it's not..
And to add, the service was completely non existent.
When we asked if the server could clear our plates so that we didn't have to place fruit on our dirty plates, we were told there were no more plates..? No more plates? In a 5 star hotel?
"The wait for clean plates will be 30 mins sir.. I can give you something to wipe your plate if you like "
It saddens me to write this, as I have been a regular guest at the Langham in HK, London and Melbourne over many years, but our last stay was absolutely atrocious.
What a farce of a hotel.

The Langham just seemed to be getting everything right. It is an old-fashioned hotel in the very best sense. The location is great and I would happily return.
The langham Melbourne is no longer a magical hotel , Service dissapointing which is such a shame as it was always wonderful Overseas travellers will be very dissapointed when they start coming back to Melbourne as it just does not compete with amazing world wide 5 star hotels . I know COVID times are hard getting staff and lots of sick leave but every company in the world has the same problems and other hotels in australia are still giving amazing service especially at time when people brave going to a hotel for a little pampering .
Staffs were simply awesome. Every single staff passing by in the corridor etc were greeting us. Bellboys were super helpful and the reception staffs were professional and kind, too. I asked why the TV's HDMI port was not working, one of the staffs couldn't help me, but it seems he or someone else followed up by sending staff to our room. He couldn't fix it, but the next morning a technician came and gave us a workaround to get the HDMI port working. Pretty exceptional!
Breakfast had many varieties and delicious. The fruit juices were very nice, too. The breakfast staffs were very professional and caring, too.
The location is superb and the Yarra river views are priceless at any time. The furniture is a bit dated but they are well maintained and the room and the bathroom were super clean.
I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone!
The only thing I didn't enjoy was the dinner. Melba Restaurant's Seafood buffet dinner ($115pp) was subpar for the price. It lacked variety in both the seafood and other foods. The foods were generally not very tasty.
I would give 2 or 2.5 stars out of 5 if anyone asks.
"Don't get a room facing the building being demolished! Many guests were talking about it at breakfast."Read full review
