We stayed at the Sebel Docklands just before Christmas. It’s in a great location overlooking the old docks and close to the ‘District’ area while still within the free tram zone.
The rooms were of Apartment design with a kitchen/living area and a separate bedroom. We were a little disappointed by the size of the apartment especially as we booked one of the “larger” options. The bedroom was tiny and the balcony could just about fit 2 chairs. It also had loose tiles that made it feel unsafe. The bathroom was of a good size, but none of the rooms had a bath (we asked). The room was equipped with 2 Tvs, bathroom toiletries, hairdryer, a Microwave, an oven, a hob, a full size F/F, a washer/dryer. Kettle (no coffee machine) tea/coffee making facilities, queen bed, robes sofa. We had scuff marks on the walks which was also disappointing.
The site is made up of the apartments and 2 residence towers. There is a largish lap pool, a spa, sauna and well equipped Gym. Strangely to enter this area you either had to use a separate lift or go to the ground floor go outside and then enter via a seperate door. To get towels you had to go to reception, which meant you had to then go outside to use the pool. Very weird. The site also had a library, plus bookable areas such as a cinema room, a seperate indoor kitchen and dining area and a meeting room. (Presumably for the residents who live/stay longer ) On the roof (key from reception and again outside to access) there was a tennis court, barbecue areas and garden beds. We we’re disappointed by the layout as there wasn’t anywhere to relax and enjoy the sunshine. (No daybeds or loungers) in fact the whole site was of an industrial feel with concrete seating in the pool spa area, uncomfortable seating on the roof, and even the library. Some proper seating, cushions and even throws would make a wonderful improvement.
The overall hotel layout was very strange, the lobby with its floor to roof arrrangement needed cleaning on the upper levels. The day to day cleaners would need a cherrypicker to get there.
Overall the staff were very nice and helpful. We asked and got a late checkout. There was daily room service (not on Sundays or Public Holidays) any issues we had were dealt with quickly.
There is a cafe attached which served great food. Nearby shops and an easy walk to the District shopping area. Plus wonderful massage place next door.
Would we stay again? Possibly. The balcony and the roof would be the reason we wouldn’t.

The stay at the Sebel Hotel in Docklands wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. The room was only ready for after 3pm which is quite late and staff seemed to be under pressure to turn rooms around. Being a Gold Accor member, I usually get offered a nicer room within the same or next room category, but seemed to get just the standard room on a lower floor. The apartment was OK, but quite dated and some of the furniture had rips and tears and the kitchenware was minimal and unmatched. Being lower down, meant it was a bit darker and noisier with street activity. There was no instruction booklet or hotel info provided, so when the aircon wasn't working, we had no idea how to check it or contact reception. The room cleaning was very slow, and often after a day out, we'd get home around 3 or 4pm to find that it hadn't been done yet. The room also wasn't vacuumed once during our stay and used items like coffee, milk and dish soap weren't replaced. No coffee plunger was provided, but we managed to get one from reception. The hotel is well located close to the Docklands waterfront and the major tram routes.

Dear Beem, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. You are right, and the check-in time now is 3 pm as we have been suffering the labour shortage since late last year. We are glad to see you enjoyed the location and got the coffee plunger from the reception. We are looking forward to welcoming you again and will try our best to allocate you to a higher floor. Regards, Jamie Wei

From the moment we were welcomed at check in, to the moment we left, we enjoyed our stay immensely. The check in process was quick, clear and we were treated with a smile and a kind word. Nothing was too much trouble, including setting aside a carpark and keycard for my husband who was coming to Melbourne later than the rest of us. The room was clean and the air con on to cool it down for us on a very hot Melbourne day. We did not have a view from our apartment, but that did not matter. The two bedroom apartment was spacious and well set out. Aircons in each room and a huge fridge and freezer, dishwasher, utensils and balcony. We did not use the pool, but is was offered if we liked. Did not use the restaurant Capri, but it was open and busy. The carparking was a huge bonus. We were happy to pay the $35 to keep the cars safe and sound, and walked most places we needed, however in and out privileges allowed us to drive into the theatre and home again. Upon check out we were spending the day down the coast, and had some precious cargo and a spare car. We were able to leave this at the hotel for the day and pick it up on our way home. Thanks. We will definitely be back.

The transfer is relatively short from the airport at around 20 minutes. The hotel is a well designed nice hotel in the docklands area. Tram station is a short walk and easy to get around. We had the bed & breakfast option booked through Travel Bag. We stayed in room 112. The apartment was a 1 bedroom apartment with a road view. Nice bedroom room with double bed. Plenty of wardrobe space with hair dryer. Nice size living area with good size t.v. and sitting area. Shower room with big shower, basin and w.c. Washing machine in cupboard. All the amenities you require in kitchen including coffee making facilities, cooker, microwave and a big fridge. The breakfast at the Capri restaurant has a good menu and the food is really good. The service is very good and staff are very helpful. All the staff at the hotel can't do enough to make you happy. There indoor pool is very clean and the jacuzzi and sauna is very nice. We have travelled a lot and this hotel is very good and we would recommend.

Stayed for two nights with wife and daughter. Room was smelly and not cleaned properly on entry. Hotel is otherwise nice but pool access is ridiculously complicated given the pool is shared with a residential complex: you need to go to reception, be escorted outdoors to the residential complex to receive a pool key card, then return to the pool. The building manager of the residential complex is a rude, bald man on a serious power trip. On day 1, we witnessed him abusing two hotel guests for entering the gym area. On day two, myself and my daughter followed the process and waited for 15 minutes for him to appear and provide a key card for us. As it was morning, I asked the reception staff member if it would be OK to keep the key card for the remainder of the day as we planned to swim again in the evening. I was told this was fine and that I could return it at the end of the day. A few hours later, the reception staff called my wife (who was at work) to demand that we return the key card as there was not enough of them for all hotel guests (like that's our problem to sort out). She informed them that was impossible as we had been told it was OK for us to keep it and we were not in the hotel at that time. When she returned from work she was looking forward to a swim with my daughter but found the key card not working. When she enquired at reception, she was told the building manager had banned us from pool access for the remainder of our stay. Rather than defending their guests, the hotel pleaded with us not to take this up with the building manager and tried to placate us with a cheap bottle of wine.
I'd suggest to the Sebel that that prioritise their guests' experience and demand better support from the fool who runs the residential complex. Will not stay again.

Dear David, Thank you for sharing your experience at the Sebel Docklands. I understand your frustration about the current Pool Use Roles. Unfortunately, the covid situation is still tricky, and this is the only way to prevent the pool from becoming too crowded. It may keep our guests, including your family stay safer. It could be a miscommunication if any receptionist tells you to keep the swipe after using the pool. Because we always escort our guests to get the pool access and stress that the pool swipe is a shared key, it should be returned after each swimming. We carefully select the Welcome Drinks from a local premium supplier, and most guests love the brand. We will buy another brand for you if there is any chance in the future. We beleive the regular pool operation will be back as soon as the Covid situation improves. Regards, Jamie Wei General Manager

Great location, very clean hotel. We had a one bedroom apartment which was roomy and well set up with good amenities. This hotel is ideal if you're in town to watch the footy match at Marvel Stadium and the tram line takes you into the city, to Vic Market and close to the Crown Complex.

I have just had the best stay here at the Sebel Docklands today. After the most awesome welcome on arrival from Jesus who is an absolute gentleman, radiating energy, we were then personally guided to accessing the rooms.
The whole design of the hotel and the apartments will challenge your expectations of what you think you know a hotel to be. It’s great although a little disconcerting in the beginning it takes you out side of the mundane and normal. I love it, how exciting.
As for the room, the Sebel have set the 4C’s for standard in guest Comfort, Convenience, Cleanliness and Creativity. A beautiful decorated and impeccably clean space. Everything you could expect and more, everything focused on the guest experience. No expense has been spared in ensuring everything you need for an extended stay is in the apartment. A real hotel diamond.
The kitchen was huge and the fridge is huge and spotless, the dishwasher was great and the appliances are all high end how could anyone complain.
A beautiful little balcony, and although I didn’t get a chance to use the gym and pool facilities I did peak in through the window a few times and it looked great.
We did take advantage of the onsite dining and were well looked after by maître de Leo. We had entree and mains and everything was yummy made with love by the truely passionate and creative chef Michael (thank you for the travel advice and I loved the way you plated up the Angus burger which was delicious btw).
The room and hotel have such an awesome ambience I ended up having a lovely peaceful sleep in that room. Job done by the team at Sebel! Happy guest happy hotel!
Anyhow I could go on and on about the lots of eateries around and free tram link to city and Docklands shops all a stone throws away but rather I want to end by saying on departure were honoured to meet Brandy and Sam at reception. True professionals in navigating out checkout with ease and on how to exit the car park without any hassle.
I could find absolutely nothing negative at all about the Sebel and staff, on the contrary, it has hit my top five list of most fav hotels! Thank you for all the hospitality I truely felt at home and well being looked after and see you soon.
Mr Dean from Melbourne

Great location with a water view. Close to Marvel Stadium. Flexible & very accomodating with our request to downsize to smaller apartment on the day of arrival. Clean & tidy & spacious. BUT make sure to ask for a seperate keycard for carpark. Carpark is on level 6 & room keys are only coded to go to the level of your apartment (for us it was level 3). We had great difficulty leaving & got stuck in both lifts. When we asked for help the lady on reception put the key card on a machine & said it would be ok! It WASN’T & the same thing happened in the second lift. Finally a gentleman employee helped us & explained about the seperate key card to access carpark.

The room was great, as you'd expect from a Sebel. The most disappointing part was the gym and pool. I believed it was part of the hotel, but it is in an adjoining residential Sebel block. This meant that there is quite a laborious process to use the pool - taking 15 minutes including being escorted outside to a concierge in another building, leaving ID and collecting afterwards. Not really worth it for a 25 min swim - I would have used the gym but I had to go though the same process and an additional induction. Onsite café didn't open until 7:30 so was difficult to get coffee/breakfast before the day starts.

I booked a two bedroom apartment four two adult couples.
Check in was quick and easy, the apartment was modern, spacious and well appointed. Air con was available in each room and we had a balcony with some views of the water (we had only booked the base 2br apartment without view). The only improvement that could be made to the apartment would be a larger bathroom and most four star hotels provide a proper pod coffee maker instead of the instant stuff provided by the Sebel.
The public areas were beautiful. The indoor pool, spa and sauna were great and the gym was definitely one of the better equipped ones I have used at a hotel - including a good variety of free weights, machines and a proper bench and barbell. I also really enjoyed the 'library' which was a large living area above the gym. It was beautifully decorated, always quiet and a great place to work from.
The biggest let down for me at the Sebel - the wifi. It was really REALLY bad. Even just opening emails and such was quite the ordeal. Forget streaming netflix or such. For most basic browsing I had to hotspot to my phone.
