Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Arrived 3pm and was told I was super early for check in. Was given a room and wow it was a site. Severe roof damage from obvious water leak above. Bathroom had an attempted renovation by wish. Shower door only opens about 1/3 of way as hits vanity. You also strap up into shower around 400mm. Quite dangerous. Oh there was also a dead cat in front garden hahaha. Shower pressure was great

Do not recommend! We paid $440 a night which was an absolute rip off for this dirty, dodgy hotel. Only redeeming thing about it was the cute cafe attached that had excellent tasting freshly cooked food and great coffee. But the hotel itself feels unsafe. Smelly stale cigarette smoke smell in non smoking rooms. Tiny shower and seperate teeny toilet was uncomfortable to get in and out of. The carpet was wet and also sticky and stained. Air con vents were so old and broken it looked very unhealthy. Car park was free (bonus) but so narrow that you are so worried about damaging your car. Lift was broken so poor people on higher floors had to walk their luggage up and down stairs Do not stay here.

Room rate changed by management on check in with additional charges despite booking confirmed as choice privelidges member, felt very much like "money grabbing" by management. Lady at check in was abrupt and unwilling to discuss further. People clearly smoking in ground floor rooms, stunk of cigarette smoke. My children were surprised & quite worried by this. We observed a number of questionable looking characters moving through the establishment. The room itself appeared OK, slightly updated but scratch the surface and hygiene was lacking. Old used tissues found behind the curtains, a sour smell in bathroom ? From drain in the shower? Hotel noisy overnight with people slamming doors and walking up and down corridor at 3am. But perhaps worst of all, we discovered bedbugs crawling up the behead the next morning! (Reported to management, who have said they will address) Definitely avoid this hotel if you value hygiene & feeling secure at a hotel at night.

BEWARE: We booked and paid for this hotel on June 30 2023 for 16–19 Feb 2024, the weekend of the Taylor Swift concert. Out of the blue on 3 Feb 2024, 7 months later, I receive an email from Maxine, the owner, that my booking has been cancelled & refunded. No explanation. Maxine did not reply to my messages, hung up on me when I called, then on my daughter & my husband. Also on Stayz (who I'd booked it through) and Choice, the hotel chain. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. Maxine will rort you.

We stayed at Comfort East Melbourne in January 2020 while we were attending the Australian Open. The location was perfect - the building is back from the main street so there is minimal street noise but you are still in the thick of it in the middle of East Melbourne - so plenty of shops, cafes and public transport. We found it super easy to catch trams/Ubers to and from the CBD / Richmond. The space itself is very clean, stylish and bigger than we expected. It was very comfortable for us as a couple. Staffs were great with the comms too. If you’re going to the tennis, cricket or just want to hang out in Melbourne this Hotel is a great choice!

The room itself is very cosy and looks exactly like the photos. The air conditioner does take a while to cool the room, but it will get there eventually. The receptionist also provided very clear instructions on how to use the TV and cookers and was very responsive throughout my stay. Even though the lift was out of order the night we arrived there, the receptionist offered to help take the luggage to the room for us. It was a very comfortable stay for us.

A nice suburb view,Convenient car parking and friendly staff. Very handy for number 12 and 109 trams going directly to the CBD area. Comfortable bed (although pillows are rather large for my liking) and lovely fluffy towels. The staff were very prompt in responding and sorting out a small problem upon our arrival. I can definitely recommend

This was a lovely, quiet, welcoming, well-appointed, and cosy apartment, with Maxine's very personable and responsive staff. The apartment is in a very convenient area of East Melbourne, close to many shops and restaurants, even closer to public transport, and a lovely, easy 5- to 10-minute walk to the parks and CBD. Had all you might need for your stay (oh, a dishcloth or chux wouldn’t go amiss). It was also lovely to have the garden outside the large windows of the bedroom and living room. Just FYI, the flat, being a ground-floor one, is perhaps not as light as the publicity pictures make out, but then again, it was raining!

We made a booking 2 months before travelling to Melbourne for the Robbie Williams concert for the 23rd November at $197. Had entered in my credit card and had email confirmation that everything was all booked. The night before we were due to check in (22nd) we received an email advising that our booking had been cancelled due to the incorrect credit card number and them not being able to get hold of us on my mobile (i had no missed calls). We had even had a confirmation email on the 19th saying they were looking forward to our arrival. When we called to find out what was going on we were told by the Asian manager we would have to rebook at the new much higher rate. After reading other reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence/complaint. Luckily we had an alternative, and will never use this hotel or chain again.

Super easy with reception (I arrived during the open times). It was super convenient to the convention centre, clean and comfy. Not too much noise (but then I sleep with earplugs when I travel). This was the second time we stayed at Comfort while in Melbourne for PAX Aus and it did not disappoint! Extremely convenient for walking to the convention, getting around Melbourne and plenty of great food options if needing a midnight pick-me-up in regards to location. There was plenty of space for two people to share and room to spread out if needing to make costume repairs. The Comfort is our go-to place when in Melbourne and will definitely be staying again next year!
