What a great hotel! The location was spot on (we came for the Australian Open tennis and we could walk to the stadium along the river in 15 minutes). While the area is busy/touristy it is central to everything. The room was small but clean and extremely quiet…never heard any outside noise or any other rooms. The breakfast buffet was quite good, with lots of choices-both sweet and savory.

What makes this hotel, however, is the staff. Every single person was so friendly, helpful and welcoming…front desk staff, breakfast staff, etc. really remarkable. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Arrived here after 30+ hours of travel to be greeted by Madisyn, who ended up being a huge help throughout our stay with recommendations for things to do, and translating Australian to American for us when needed! We did connecting twin and king rooms--each room is not large, but together fit our family of four (two adults, two youth). This hotel has a cute bar area for breakfast and drinks/dinner (appreciated the all day happy hour prices for Hilton Honors status). Right around the corner is Degraves street, full of restaurants, shops, and across the street is Flinders station. We were able to walk many places of interest, and easily find meals and stores to get the things we forgot. Kudos to Madisyn and Nos (breakfast host) for going the extra mile to recognize us and our kiddos!

We had a three night stay in a King City View room.

The good

The room (815) was a decent size, quiet and had a very good bed and pillows. The bathroom was large & clean and had plenty of bench space for toilet bags etc & ok water pressure in the big, walk-in shower. Staff were pretty friendly and helpful and arranged housekeeping to service our room when we were out for dinner because we'd been napping when they came in the afternoon.

The not great

There wasn't really a view and the room was quite dark. Because of the layout there was only 1 bedside table which is a pain for the person who goes without. There are no USB charging ports near the bed (the one in the back of the alarm clock didn't work). Have to get out of bed to turn the lights off as no switches at the bed. Coffee in the pods was dreadful.

The location

The hotel is across the road from Flinders Station, on the free tramline, walking distance to Degraves St, the restaurants and bars on the south side of the river and the CBD/shopping area. But it is a bit of a scungey part of town, surrounding streets are grimy, lots of fast food outlets and there are some interesting sights late at night. Bear this in mind if it might bother you.

Conclusion

Comfortable hotel in convenient - but not salubrious- part of town. Missing a few modern comfort features that would give it a higher rating.

After booking a standard room I was invited to upgrade for a small fee to a King room with City view and was stupid enough to accept. "City" was a definite exaggeration as we over-looked a lot of flat roofs with rusty ac units.
The room was huge and the bed was a King but it was jammed up against the window wall so I had to crawl over my wife to get in and out of bed. Not good when the bathroom calls in the middle of the night. I rolled the bed away from the wall but still had no bedside table for my glasses etc.
The room had acres of floor space so it was a pity that it had only one armchair between two of us. No coffee table either. So the hotel missed out on the in-room dining we had planned as sitting cross-legged on the floor did not appeal.
The bathroom was also quite spacious but used those silly, tiny plastic bottles of shampoo etc. which are hard to use and very wasteful. There are many better alternatives.
On the plus side the location is good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. After two days of no room cleaners turning up to make the bed we reported to the lovely Jaime on the front desk who was very apologetic and remedied the oversight. But even she could not fix the issues with the furniture.
What a pity that the management of the place did not match the service of the staff.

Dear John, we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. We are glad you enjoyed our great service and location but we are disappointed that we were not able to meet your expectations during your stay. Unfortunately being a boutique style inner city hotel we do have some rooms that are on the cosier side and restricted views. Our City View rooms have views of the city center, whether our Flinders St station view or Skyline River View rooms have the iconic views of the front side of our hotel. Please reach out to us directly next time if you would be willing to give us a chance to turn your experience around. It would be such a pleasure to personally welcome you back to our hotel to make sure you have a memorable stay for all the right reasons. Warm regards, Alejandra (Hotel Marketing).

I recently stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Flinders Street (my fourth in recent times) and was thoroughly impressed as always by the service and thoughtful touches that made my visit unforgettable.

As a Diamond Hilton Honours member, I was warmly welcomed at check-in with a smile and, of course, one of those iconic warm DoubleTree cookies! The team went above and beyond, recognising my loyalty with an upgrade to a King Guest Room with Balcony. The balcony was a fantastic spot to relax, offering stunning views of Flinders Street Station and the bustling Melbourne streetscape below.

The room was spotless, spacious, and stylishly appointed. The bedding was crisp and supremely comfortable, guaranteeing a restful night’s sleep after a busy day exploring Melbourne. The bathroom was modern, well-lit, and stocked with quality amenities, which is always appreciated.

One unique feature to note: while there’s no Executive Lounge at this property, Diamond and Gold members receive Happy Hour priced drinks all day at the bar downstairs—a great touch that made winding down in the evening even more enjoyable.

Location-wise, it’s unbeatable. The hotel is right in the heart of the city, with Flinders Street Station and trams on the doorstep, making it easy to get around. Federation Square, laneway cafes, and fantastic dining options are all just a short walk away.

For anyone looking for a convenient, comfortable, and welcoming place to stay in Melbourne, I highly recommend the DoubleTree by Hilton Flinders Street. The exceptional service and thoughtful perks for Hilton Honours members ensure I’ll be back on my next trip to this vibrant city.

This hotel is unique in its location right in front of Flinders Street Station. Not only is it near the station, but in the same block (it's covered so you won't get wet in the rain), there is a supermarket that opens early in the morning, cafes and fast food restaurants that are convenient for lunch, and donut and ice cream shops for snacks, so there was no problem even during a long stay. The room was functional and good. There was a lot of coffee and tea, so I enjoyed my stay. As I was a member, I was happy with the daily breakfast buffet (which was also sufficient) and carbonated water.

The Guest Service was wonderful. In particular Simone from Reception. She was helpful and friendly. The highlight of this stay for me. i arrived early and she was welcoming and set me up to get work done in the restaurant.

The second one was the bottled still water... it's good. It's free flow pure still water but somehow it's very soft and easy to drink. Don't forget your check-in cookie!

This hotel is a calm oasis right in the middle of bustling Melbourne opposite Flinders Street Starion and within walking distance to bars and restaurants.
The staff are lovely and professional and nothing is too much trouble for them to do. We stayed over Christmas and we had dinner in the restaurant which was lovely, especially the pudding.
We had upgraded our room so we had a window and I wouldn't have liked a standard room. The room was quiet and the bed comfortable, the cleaners didn't disturb us and our room was always cleaned whilst we were out.
Definitely one to look at if you are visiting Melbourne.

The location of this hotel is excellent, being right across the street from Flinders Street Station and close to speciality shops, restaurants and supermarkets. Many of Melbourne’s tourist attractions are within easy walking distance and others are a quick tram or train ride away.
Our corner skyline, river view room with balcony, had stunning views in both directions: looking east there’s Fed Square, the MCG and sporting precinct and the Dandenongs off in the distance: looking south there’s the iconic Flinders Street Station, the Yarra and, as the name of the room suggests, the skyline of Southbank.
Although the air conditioning was very efficient, it was lovely to be able to open the balcony doors and enjoy the fresh air. The room is of average size and simply but comfortably furnished. The bathroom had ample space for storing toiletries and hanging towels and robes etc.
As a Diamond Hilton Honors member, I was given a very generous accommodation upgrade and complimentary cooked breakfast for two. Although, the buffet breakfast is unavailable at the moment, the a la carte menu offered a fine choice of options and was more than enough to set us up for the day.
The hotel also has excellent Covid safe policies in place. Extras like bathrobes, slippers and tea and coffee etc are not stored in the room, but are available on request. A quick phone call and everything we asked for was delivered within minutes.
All members of staff we met, from front of house to waitstaff in the restaurant were exemplary, being both friendly and efficient. Pre-stay emailed requests were all granted.
At the moment we are on the lookout for upscale/luxury hotels, close to home, in which to stay while travel further afield is still a bit iffy. The Doubletree definitely ticked all the boxes, in fact we’ve already booked a return visit for later this month.

When we stayed at the Hilton there were roadworks just outside so parking there for even a brief period was problematic. We saw many vehicles having to do a U-turn and go back along Flinders as they couldn't get through towards St Kilda Road. The nearby laneways are not for traffic but you could turn left into Elizabeth and try up there but you would be lucky to find an empty bay. It might be possible to turn around in front of the hotel and park on the opposite side of the road along the front of Flinders Street Station not too far from the hotel entrance.

No problem. Even sitting out on the balcony, we were not troubled but then, to be honest, we are rarely worried by the sounds of the city. People from country areas, or from quiet surroundings, may have a problem, however. So I'm unsure.
