Detailed Reviews
Under very difficult circumstances - the corona virus - The hotel did an amazing job. The restaurant had been closed as part of the Australian Government lockdown but the hotel was able to provide breakfast boxes. There were plenty of outlets close to the hotel providing takeaway food of good quality.
The room was great especially the bath/shower unit which had amazing water pressure.
The hotel is just under new ownership and was in the process of transferring from IBIS to the new owners brand. As with many properties in Australia, the hotel was going to be forced to close until the Corona Virus had been brought under control. It was a difficult time for the staff, yet they still managed to give outstanding service.

Melbourne Hotel CBD formerly the Ibis Hotel located in Little Bourke Street Melbourne. The rooms are the same as the Ibis with only the in room toiletries and tea/coffee different. The service is mostly the same except house keeping.

Stayed 6D5N in June '19 for holidays. Location-wise is okay, some walking distance to Victoria Market and midtown. As for the room, all is good except the size which is quite small. We have 2 big luggage and need to close/store away to make room for walkway. Limited in space for hanging big winter jackets too. As for breakfast, venue selection includes buffet serving at main venue or set-meal located at the front of their reception counter, both is to my liking. All in all, this is what expected from an IBIS brand Hotel.

I stayed at your hotel in Melb for 2 nights between 13-15 Jan 2022 with my 9 yr old kid. They required a $100 charge as deposit. At time of check in, there was a man who was checking out who was advised by the receptionist that his deposit will not be refunded for some reason I do not remember now.
On checking in the room on 13th Jan, I found that the chair was a bit shaky, so I got that replaced. I always had a doubt these guys won't pay my deposit so did not want to take a chance keeping a chair that was shaky.
On returning to my hometown in Aus, I saw the deposit had not come to my bank, so shared a mail to which I never received any replies. I called up the hotel after a week of check out and came to know from the girl at the reception that my daughter had possibly done some sketching and maybe there were a few sketch pen marks that went to the bedsheet for which the hotel management decided to charge my full deposit as compensation. I stayed in many hotels on this trip to Melb incl. Atlantis Hotel, Arrow on Swanston, Grand Chancellor Melb and Quest Fleminton Central. Some of the hotels did charge a deposit but I got all my deposits refunded.
Even if the single bed sheet is totally spoilt (assuming the cleaners cannot still clear that off), it surely does not cost $100. They should have maybe charged $20 and refunded the $80 back. Furthermore, no replies were sent to my email that this charge was being made. It does not definitely show good business practice.
The room was small but looked neat and the hotel is centrally located on Little Bourke St. They also have a locker room to store bags while waiting for room or for keeping luggage for a few hours after check out.

The pictures are definitely deceiving. The room was dark and dirty. This stay was not cheap. For the price you pay for this central location, you’d think there would be better cleaning services. Curtains were stained, the walls were dusty and filthy. The bath tub was stained, the filter on top of the bathtub was full of dust, the sliding doors also had dust which looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in about 10 years. It just felt suffocating and knowing that it was dirty made our skins crawl. It’s not a nice place to come back to after a long day of exploring the city. I’m sure there’s more nicer hotels near by which would be better for your well being.

Very poor - double normal price and half standard. Both myself and colleague were kept awake by metallic clanking noises in the roof/ceiling. Also double versus normal queen. Even with the refund offered, the value for money was very poor compared to usual.

Dear Aliciathompson2020 Thank you for taking the time to share with us about your recent stay during Melbourne's peak travel period of the Australian Open Tennis. We are sorry to hear that did not find the hotel up to your usual expectations. The metal clanking is being investigated to find the source and once identified steps will be undertaken to isolate. Kind regards Mary Ellen O'Malley General Manager

our room was small but adequate and had everything that was required. The hotel was well situated as we went to tennis and 20/20 cricket during our time in Melbourne. Also close for sky bus and near Southern Cross railway station. Reception staff were always friendly and efficient.. We had breakfast included and this could be described as average == unfortunately except for mornings when there was tinned apricots fruit was never very ripe also coffee machine made very frothy coffee

Look, this place is a cheap hotel, I get that. We paid next to nothing for a hotel because we know we’d be in late at night and out early. It’s just a bed and somewhere to relax. But honestly, this place is beyond disappointing in every aspect and is truly less clean, tidy and luxurious than a low level private room at a local back packers.
I love a good hotel deal and have stayed in some amazing and pretty gross places around the world, one of which was a motel made of bamboo suspended over a river in the middle of the Borneo jungle. Even that was nicer than this place.
Leaking taps, broken shower, broken air conditioning, broken fire alarm that kept sounding, broken tv remote and the list goes on.
I was never expecting much, all we wanted was a bed and somewhere to shower and relax briefly. We don’t spend much time in the room. But the time we did spend there I would have preferred to share the sleeping bag with the bloke out the front in the alley next door.
Avoid if you can, pay the extra $20 and go anywhere else. Or for that matter save an extra $50 a night and get a private room across the road at the backpackers, it would be nicer.
Just don’t bother here, there’s nothing positive about it.

Dear east47, Thank you very much for staying with Melbourne Hotel CBD. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a feedback. We are sorry to hear that did not find the hotel up to your usual expectations. You have mentioned that everything was broken in the room (Leaking taps, broken shower, broken air conditioning, broken fire alarm that kept sounding, broken tv remote and the list goes on.); none of our staff has received any real-time feedback that all of these items are broken in any of our rooms. We would have addressed it immediately to have it fixed or moved you to another room as your comfort is of the utmost importance during your stay. We thank you once again for your comments, we strive to provide the best service we can and we will constantly strive to improve our services and facilities in the hotel. Kind regards, Melbourne Hotel CBD

Good city location, small room (which is not a problem), dirty bathroom. I spoke to reception and showed them photos of the bathroom and asked if it could be cleaned, which she said yes to. When we returned to the room 12 hours later, the bathroom had only had towels changed. The walls still remained dirty with hairs stuck to it and dirty brown marks on it. The receptionist said the brown marks were paint…which I am not so sure about, either way the walls needed cleaning. I returned to reception and spoke to a different member of staff who said he would tell management but I didn’t hear anything. He was very apologetic about the situation and you could tell he wanted to sort it out. Sadly, I didn’t hear anything! In addition to this, the exactor fan grill was missing from the ceiling, leaving a big black hole above the shower, the smoke alarm was broken, wasn’t even fitted on, just the base and the hotel took $100 out of my account without telling me, we are assuming this was for the deposit but once again we’re not told. Hopefully this will be refunded! They didn’t tell us when we checked in, just took the money a few hours later. The lady who checked us on wasn’t very helpful and didn’t even know how to print a receipt for the hotel payment. I told her not to bother. Nor could she tell me how the carpark system worked either, luckily her male colleague was very helpful.
If the room was clean and all the staff were more helpful rather than being so laid back about the situation then I would stay here again. However, I can’t deal with a dirty room.

Recently stayed with these guys for 1 week as I was in Melbourne for a medical procedure. Upon check in I was immediately given an upgraded room free of charge. During the entirety of my stay each member of staff was very polite and accommodating of all my needs. Room was competitively priced, clean and quiet. Giving 5 stars as I can't think of a single criticism.
