Very well located right on Lygon street, close to shops, restaurants and a quick tram ride to the CBD. My room was clean and had everything I needed, including cooking facilities and iron with ironing board. Compared to other hotels in the area it is reasonably priced, but you get what you pay for. Comfort but without the luxury fittings. I had a street facing room, which was great for people watching, but not so great for car noise on a Saturday night. But the hoons stopped at around middnight. Would recommend.

We stayed at Lygon Lodge on a Saturday night. Booking directly with the hotel online was very easy. We had a 2nd floor front room with a small balcony overlooking Lygon Street. The room had kitchen facilities, was a good size, was clean & in good condition. We were able to park on-site. Check in was easy, quick & pleasant. The location is great with dozens of restaurants all around, a 7/11 across the road & only a 20 minute walk into the CBD.

The picture on the website is for a front room. It cost us $190 for Thursday Sunday and Monday and $198 for Friday and Saturday nights. It's right on Lygon Street which is very noisy with traffic. The room had a small balcony. Curiously there's no hotel chain represented in Carlton, but having stayed at the Clocktower (which is VERY basic) we opted for this property. It does have a small lift but you walk through the carpark, past boxes and bits of old furniture, rubbish bins etc. to get to it. The room itself was quite big, with a separate bathroom (very small shower) and kitchenette area. It was clean and the towels were good, toilet paper very cheap and thin, always a worry. The air conditioner in our room stopped working the night before we left, and the bathroom door handle became very loose as a screw fell out of it. Lygon St itself looks sad, with many restaurants and shops up for lease or closed permanently, thanks to Covid. For nearly a thousand dollars for 5 nights, we will not be staying here again.

Overall a poor experience. The rooms were very retro and I had to change rooms because my first room the door would literally just open because it was clearly rammed/kicked open and they never bothered to fix it. When I moved to the new room it looked organized but was never properly cleaned because dirt was visible along with some nasty remnants of the last occupant. When I finally had them clean my room they left my room WIDE OPEN and didn't close the door. Thankfully my items were not taken but all I got was I'm so sorry how about a late check out as a sorry? The staff at the front desk is questionable at best. They seem friendly for hi and bye but if you interact with them they are very cold and some are just down right rude. The parking is advertised as free on booking.com by them responding to a customer but upon arrival it's 30 a day because you didn't book with them (they literally tried to charge you an extra 160 for my exact same stay) and then claim it's "free parking". The bed sheets seem nice till you open them and then realize in between the two clean sheets is an insanely dirty and clearly old heavy blanket. The bathroom is updated but the shower door is so small you have to go into it side ways (I am not skinny but I am not a big guy either). Honestly I can try to live with some of the issues but the staff at the desk was just so condescending and rude I had to make sure everyone was aware. I even had a guest over and they literally told my guests they had to use the stairs because the elevator is for hotel guests only. They had to climb 3 stories to get to me. Who does that?! The only reason others wrote a 5 star review is because on the check in desk is a give us a great review and we give you a late check out. They literally bribe people for better reviews. Avoid this place at all costs honestly plenty of better options in similar price ranges.

This hotel answered all our needs - lovely room with mini kitchenette, nice view, quiet on top floor, lift, parking under hotel on ground floor, comfy beds and great pillows not flat pancakes! Hotel right beside restaurants, gelato shops and the buzz of Lygon St. For us too it was comfortablely close with a short taxi ride to St Vincent’s Public Hospital for my husband’s Cardiac Surgery. Stayed 4 nights and staff were just so caring and helpful as we are both older and mobility challenged. When cleaner caught me crying due to stress and worry she was thoughtful and even gave me an extra box of tissues to mop up my face 😢 We were just so pleased with our stay and for our future needs at St Vincent’s Hospital we know exactly where we will be staying again!
Thank you so much for welcoming us rural folks as we approached a scary, difficult situation in our lives. We are very grateful to you all. 💐💐👍

Lygon Lodge has always been my go to stay when in Melbourne. It has recently been sold and this was first stay since the sale. The new consortium have continued with the same warm welcome. Lovely reception staff. Improvements were noticeable. I like to stay in a particular room, and once again it felt familiar and comfortable. I have to commend the wonderful cleaning staff, each day they left my room spotlessly clean.
Lygon Lodge is in a fabulous location. Close to everything the area has to offer, such as restaurants, cafes & bars, a fabulous arthouse theatre, and wonderful bookshop, amongst other fantastic shops. Public transport nearby. Lygon Lodge ticks all the boxes.

Have stayed here numerous times but not for about 2 years. Still a great place to stay and always book a front suite. Looking a little tired these days although clean and comfortable. Stayed for 5 nights altogether. I had to request a room change as was staying in a room just above the automatic door in reception and it was really noisy at night. The staff changed my room to another front suite on the 2nd floor which I appreciated. Great location, close to CBD and great local eateries. Always good to have a carpark. My only negative comment was that I had to wait an hour for my room to be ready when I checked in .

Good location , friendly staff and that’s where it ends. Room smelt like old smoke, carpet was stained and the noise from other apartments and music until 1:30am in next door establishment made for a very poor experience. I will certainly not be returning

My wife initially booked for two nights and extended for two further nights, and would stay again without hesitation. Location ideal to the tremendous range of eateries in Lygon St, as well as access to Melbourne City, the MCG, etc. Provides a real sense of the Carlton Village with Irma, who has managed the place for some 20 years, an excellent source of knowledge. Rooms, while basic area self contained, clean and comfortable. Undercover parking available but limited however there is a parking station next door. Also, only $22 for the Skybus to the airport which is handy if travelling without a car.
