This was our first stay, and we will definitely return. The room was comfortable, up to Accor’s standards, and came complete with a small kitchenette (sink, microwave, crockery, glassware and cutlery for four people), kettle, tea and coffee making supplies and two small milk containers in the bar fridge). A safe, big enough for a laptop, was in the cupboard along with iron, ironing board, hairdryer, dry cleaning bag and forms. We were very pleased to find a taxi rank right outside the hotel, and a minute’s walk arrives at a foot bridge leading over the Yarra River to Flinders Street train station. From there, all the public transport connections can be found, and shopping in the CBD. It’s a 15 minute walk along Southbank to the Crown Casino precinct and another five minutes walk to the Melbourne convention centre and DFO factory outlets for more shopping. Was pleased to find a self serve laundry in the hotel (at time of visit the washing machine took 3 x $1 coins, the dryer the same again). The location was ideal; one block away from the busy/noisy City Road, so our room was quiet. The ground floor restaurant is open from 0630 hours for a hot buffet breakfast. A good stocked snack bar and barista sold coffee, drinks and snacks all day. A very good hotel for corporate guests as well as tourists.

Our 9 day stay at the Mercure Melbourne Southbank exceeded our expectations in regard to the convenient location of the hotel, being close to a variety of restaurants, and only a short walk to a bridge crossing over to the railway station and central city. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well decorated, possibly recently renovated. We were completely satisfied with the standard of the housekeeping service, and most impressed one particular day when we omitted to change the sign saying our room was available for servicing. We returned to our room late in the afternoon and soon after a staff member called to see if we would like our room serviced. Our only disappointment was that the kitchen was undergoing renovation and there were no meals available, apart from a buffet breakfast. We were therefore unable to take advantage of our membership discounted meals (we were already eligible for free breakfast as part of our membership). We would recommend the Mercure to others.

At time of visit (Boxing Day) and coinciding with the Boxing Day five day cricket match, the hotel was fully booked (patrons can walk from the hotel to the MCG). As such, we venture to observe the following: the Reception was not attended full time, leaving incoming guests to either self-serve check in using consoles, or wait until a staff member materialised from the office to assist. Our room was cleaned on the second day, not every day as usual (though our broken kettle was replaced rapidly). As we stayed during the holiday season, the deconstruction site located directly adjacent to the hotel was not operating. When the six large jackhammers are operating to break up concrete, the noise must be horrendous (not including concrete dust etc), so we assume the windows are double glazed. However, whilst the adjacent building is being demolished, the rooms river side enjoy an excellent view of the river, the city and likely NYE’s fireworks. But when the new building is finished, we assume the view will be blocked (as it used to be). Still, the hotel is in an excellent location, within walking distance of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Southbank and across the river from Flinders Street railway station.

We are Platinum members of the Accor Group and decided to stay at this hotel while visiting Melbourne, on check in we were told we had a free drink voucher because we are Platinum, but we get that anyway at all other Accor venue despite membership class. The hotel is somewhat tired and in need of a birthday make over. Breakfast every morning with the hot food being cold and did not vary like other Mercure’s. Only given 2 teabags per day in our room and was not allowed to take a piece of fruit from the dining area to our room, even denied having someone take it to our room, despite having room service. English levels with most staff was very poor. Power points in room were loose and lights kept flickering throughout the night despite being turned off. Despite an uncomfortable stay the location of the hotel is great, only a minute walk to the Yarra and 5 min to Flinders/Elizabeth Streets

My husband and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary and decided to stay at Mercure Southbank this weekend and spend some time in the city. We did not realise we were staying in the same hotel we stayed before, when it was under the name of Travel Lodge. But this is where the similarities ended. We knew the location to be perfect but were pleasantly surprised to find the room very clean, generously stocked with all the necessary requirements, a super comfortable king size bed with the most amazingly fluffy pillows, great blockout to ensure a great night's sleep - all at a very reasonable price when compared with other city hotels. Excellent value, highly recommended!! Staff was friendly and responsive

Very disappointed. We usually stay within a budget but decided to spoil ourselves. The room was nice and quiet but biscuit crumbs under the couch seats, bathroom doorknob nearly falling off, no hand soap (empty container with a note ignored on the second day), no tea bags with the lid left open so they could see it was empty, toilet seat wouldn't stay up for a male pee (had to be held open with a knee), the $2 bin in the bathroom had to be held to be used (no way could you just use your foot to open it). One lift not working which meant longer waits. We would have taken the stairs except someone told us they were alarmed. Then, when we went to check out, there was a $32 breakfast charge on the room (not ours). So we couldn't do a fast check out. They waived that after we said it's not ours.
Nice room, quiet, good location, friendly and helpful desk staff. Won't be back.

Dear Joylene, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, especially since you chose to treat yourselves during your visit. While we’re glad to know that you found the room nice and quiet and appreciated our friendly desk staff, it’s clear that we fell short in several areas. Please accept our sincere apologies for the cleanliness issues, the maintenance concerns with the bathroom fixtures, and the empty amenities. These details are important to us, and we will address them with our housekeeping and maintenance teams immediately. We also understand the frustration caused by the lift situation and the incorrect breakfast charge at check-out. Thank you for bringing these to our attention; we’re working to improve our processes to ensure a smoother experience in the future. We appreciate your kind words about our location and staff, but we’re disappointed to learn that you won’t be returning. We hope you might reconsider in the future, as we would love the chance to provide you with the stay you truly deserve. Best regards, Mercure Southbank Team

Very disappointed in the quality of room for the price we paid. $900 per night during Grand Pri weekend is clear price gouging when the std room rate is less than $200. Would have been happy to pay a reasonable seasonal rate of around $450 - $500 but for $900 we would expect a higher quality and include at least a complimentary breakfast. Very poor service on arrival as we were directed abruptly to the self check in machine. Small “Superior Family Room” wouldn’t accommodate a medium family, basic bathroom facilities of low quality, nothing special. I Would definitely NOT recommend this hotel for future stays, overpriced and overrated and there are better hotel options available in Melbourne. Don’t waste your money on this one. 😡😡😡

First time in Melbourne arrived noontime and if 2 persons is cheap to take Uber-X which cost $54. If alone can try the Skybus ($22) from airport to Southern Cross Station and take a taxi $12 to Mercure MEL Southbank hotel. Or can take a tram which is free but need walking. On arrival at hotel checked in was fast and staff will explain the hotel facilities. Got upgraded to King size bed room on top floor and side view can see the Yarra river. Room is big (25 Sq M) and very clean. Heard hotel renovation is in progress. Love the comfortable Bed and guess what the toilet is superb clean. Microwave is provided also. Breakfast is simple but filling with lots of seating space. Walking along Yarra river bank lots of restaurants but if prefer food court Crown Casino have one and further down is DFO outlet have a food court at B1. On other side of river lots of restaurants and worth visiting Korean BBQ king at 280 King Street. Lunch is $40 and dinner at $50. Many shops on the Main Street and looking for supermarket there is one Coles at Elizabeth street. Moving around the Main Street can take the free tram. Looking for simple clothing head to Spencer Outlet at Spencer Street. The Chinatown is at Swanston street. Met the hotel GM Ross Chapman who is helpful and fast to solve my minor problems.

This hotel is pretty average. The room was basic. Had Shampoo and Conditioner etc that was full size but no other vanity items like shower cap etc. Room has no mini bar, not even a free bottle of water. Checkin was disappointing as there were no concierge upon arrival and the check in process was self serve. I guess this would be good if someone was checking in really late at night but we arrived at 630pm. Breakfast was very basic and we decided on the last morning that we were better off spending that money elsewhere eating. Overall room was ok. It does need refurbishing and the grout on the tiles were pretty yuck… pillows were bad . Very cheap quality and had to use two of them to try and get some sleep. The hallways were littered with stuff including women’s underwear upon entering the lifts so i would suggest cleaners should do more rounds especially in the mornings. The only positive was its location. Walking distance to St Kilda Road and Flinders Street Station and had an abundance of restaurants nearby. Would be good for a quick stay only.

I recently booked through AGODA a 3 night stay at Mercure Melbourne Southbank - Fri 13 to Mon 16 October 23. I have previously stayed at the hotel when it was under the Travelodge banner and stayed at other hotels in the area. I am very disappointed in the stay. Provision of coffee satchels x 3 how lousy, had to go to reception each night and ask for more and it seemed to be an imposition and embarrassing to ask for more. Cover doona of the bed had yellow stains on it. Shower head pipe in the wall was loose so the shower head would move and not sit straight. It appeared as if the floors had not been vacumed and had to advise the reception. The bathroom/ensuite sink appeared to be blocked or restricting the flow of water in the sink and needs attention/cleaning the pipes. For $269 per night I consider it was not value for money and at this time would not recommend it and look elsewhere when next in Melbourne, there is no shortage of hotels along Southbank.
