Immaculately presented hotel with a tonne of charm in every area and room. We were upgraded to a suite for an extended stay which was a wonderful bonus. The beds were comfy, the devor lush and the entertainment system modern and effective. Both the bar and restaurant were top notch. All staff were attentive and engaging. Just a wonderful stay. Thank you.

Location was the main reason, why I booked this hotel, and at the end this had been the best for me about this accomodation. I am also fond of historic hotels and the front of the building and the white cupola and the black columns on the ground floor exude an early 20th century grandezza.
Unfortunately I didn't book a Heritage Room, which wouldn't have been much more expensive than my 'Deluxe Queen Room with River View' on the 5th floor. This was a great disappointment. On my month long tour in total 14 four- and five-stars hotels this was the smallest room and also the one for which I paid the most. It was definitely not 23sqm, as it said on the booking website, but more like 18sqm. Also there was no armchair, as depicted, only a chair by the writing desk, which had no reading lamp.
The bed was fine and I had a good sleep, but there was nowhere to put one's clothes. The narrow wardrobe contained a fridge (with minibar), a nespresso machine, a kettle to boil water, a set of tea bags and coffee capsules, cups, glasses, wine glasses, snacks and a big red wine bottle, also an iron and a safe. Two of the clothes hangers were taken by bathrobes, under the other was an ironing board. The drawer by the bed had a bible, the one in the bathroom a hair dryer. At least there were enough plug sockets in the room.
The washbasin in the bathroom was square and tiny, the shower rather weak. Good were the free toiletries by Kudos Ebony. Air Conditioning couldn't be individually regulated. The view was good, as requested and paid for, but the window couldn't and hadn't be opened for a long time, since the windowsill was full of bird droppings.
Per room and 24 hours there are only 100MB of free WiFi and payment by credit card gets a surcharge of 1.2%, something I hadn't seen in all the other hotels I stayed in. Staff at reception was friendly and they excused themselves for letting me wait that long for check in, since they were busy with reservations and booking on the phone. Something for which a hotel with 340 rooms should have a separate person in charge.

Every year I travel to Melbourne to see the first week of the tennis. Normally I stay at a hotel a few blocks from Flinders Street, but this year, as I was staying on my own, decided to book at the more moderately priced Rendezvous. I stayed at this hotel about 10 years ago and found the location superb as the trams run right outside the door. After booking, a friend decided to join me for the trip, so I altered my booking from a queen room to a twin.
The check in staff were very pleasant and helpful, and stored our bags until the room was available at 3pm.
I had requested room facing the street so as to have more natural light in the room. The window was in fact a French door opening up onto a small balcony. I don’t think the balcony had been attended to for some time as the balcony was very dusty with a used cigarette butt on the ground. The French door glass was quite grubby and obviously hadn’t been cleaned in a while.
The room was well stocked with tea, coffee, a coffee machine etc.
The room itself was very clean and comfortable with a good beds and pillows. The bathroom was tiny, and couldn’t have fitted two people in it. It was fine for me, but my much taller friend could almost touch the bathtub with her knees when sitting on the loo. The vanity was small with not enough room for two people to put their toilet gear. Lucky my friend had a toilet bag that could be hung up. The drawer could only just fit the hairdryer inside.
On my previous stay I had a much nicer room with a bigger bathroom.
The Rendezvous is a beautiful heritage building in a great location .., just ask on booking for a bigger bathroom.

Hi kerikerikid, Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback, I'm glad to hear that our staff were able to help during your stay and that you could take advantage of our fantastic location. I will be passing on your feedback regarding the balcony to the relevant head of departments as it is unfortunate to hear that it was not cleaned to an acceptable standard. We are soon to be refurbishing several of our rooms however and would love to welcome you back again to try the new rooms in the not too distant future. Warm Regards, Zac Robertson | Duty Manager

Great location. Beautiful old Building. The beds are super comfy but the bathroom a huge let down. Reception staff are awesome and so helpful. Housekeeping staff could use deodorant as the BO left in the room after service was very uncomfortable. Highly recommended

Good location, comfortable room, room service pizza was good and arrived quickly. Breakfast was another matter, it was like something out of Fawlty Towers. Older lady we dealt with was rude, everything was an effort and she didn’t listen. We ordered breakfast as a charge back to room ( as the dining room could not provide a tax invoice for food) , because we were told that the omelette would take time and we were pushed for time I went back up to reception to check out and pay for charge backs . The food hadn’t come through so the receptionist just charged accordingly and when I went back down to the dining room got a lecture and berated for doing this and it was apparently a big drama, I should point out that it would appear that there was a $2 difference in what I paid and what I should have paid and that I had caused a big issue and now management was involved. Far out!!! Also as she didn’t listen I ended up with an omelette with ham ( I am vegetarian) when I showed her she tried to say it was onion. Took it back begrudgingly and a replacement was made, which was nice enough but had a lot of raw onion through it. I had a side of mushrooms and it would appear the original ones were sent back with replacement omelette as they were cold. I am not usually one to post negative but this experience was ridiculous. All in all the hotel is convenient to public transport and Crown and the room was good. Would stay again but not sure if we would have breakfast again!

This is an old hotel with a good lobby and lovely central staircase. Our room was a standard one which had the smallest wardrobe I have seen in such a hotel. Our TV needed an upgrade and a few things had to be fixed by maintenance. A good comfortable bar area and great bar meals. Good service. This is a very good location and you don't hear any noise from Flinders Street. Easy walk to shops, restaurants, cafes, trains, and trams.

Very much enjoyed my stay at the Rendezvous last week. It is quiet, clean, well serviced, friendly and efficient staff, has everything you need for a comfortable and pleasant stay. Is in an excellent location being on Flinders Street right across from the Flinders Street train station (only very quiet train sounds which didnt disturb at all) and walking distance to everything in the CBD. I requested a quiet room this time, and got it, as last time I was on the same floor as flight crews coming and going all hours. Rooms plainly decorated but clean, modern and with all the standard nice touches (complimentary soaps, stocked mini-bar, free wifi, etc etc) I would stay there again and recommend it to others.

I stayed in the Deluxe Room Queen on level 2 and it was just okay. The wifi wasn't the fastest but it wasn't bad at all. The whole hotel is very old as seen in the photos and the rooms are too - my ceiling had like cracks and little holes in it but it didn't bother me too much. The room was very clean, bed was very comfortable, but my airconditioner didn't really work that well - i set it to like 30 degrees and it didnt go past 21. my room was very dark, very minimal natural lighting which made me a little sad. toilet was super nice though as was the shower too. The tv didnt allow chromecasting to my laptop (which ive had previously and was AMAZING) so i was a little disappointed but i guess thats what you get with an old hotel. It was an average stay but its affordable so you get what you pay for!

This was my first stay at the Rendezvous and only my fourth visit to Melbourne. Just loved the hotel from the gorgeous spacious room overlooking the Yarra River and Flinders Street Station (which looked gorgeous when lit up at night), to its comfortable beds, great service (concierge, hospitality & bar staff), and the highlight was the heritage nature of the architecture. It really is a beautiful hotel. It is so centrally located it is great. Right on the tram & train routes and walking distance to everything in the CBD.
On one of the nights a typical Melbourne cool change and storm blew through so we decided to eat in and couldn’t have made s better choice. Encased in the leather armchairs we enjoyed a custom cocktail and then a delicious meal. I am coeliac, so there was sadly only one main meal option on the menu, but it was thankfully just amazing (salmon).
We didn’t have the included breakfast as we chose to eat out for brunch each day, so I can’t comment on that, although on the last morning I did order some GF toast and spreads for room service which arrived quickly and was nice enough.
Literally the only negative with our stay was some confusion with my booked taxi to the airport almost being given to someone else as no one really monitored the arrival of my driver or made it clear to him I was the passenger he was looking for (not enough seats at reception to wait there, so I was just slightly away in the business lounge area).
We got a great rate for our stay. I recommend asking for and paying extra for a room with a view over the river. Thank you Rendezvous for a great city stay in Melbourne.

Hi Glutenfreejoy17, Thank you for such an amazing review of the hotel, we really do appreciate it so much. I'm really glad to hear that your stay ticked all the boxes, we are extremely lucky to have such a fantastic location and for our rooms overlooking Southbank. As you said, the view is absolutely gorgeous lit up at night and the options for brunch or a nice cafe nearby are all fantastic (although on your next stay I would definitely recommend our buffet breakfast). I'll pass on your feedback in regards to the taxi service to help improve our check out experience. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Warm Regards, Zac Robertson | Duty Manager

My daughter and I stayed here during May 2022. The location is really central to everything in Melbourne city, and the refurbished nature of an old style hotel is really beautiful. Unfortunately when we arrived our room was not clean and we had to be relocated to another room. Also on day 3 of our stay it took 3 phonecalls to housekeeping to get fresh towels and our room cleaned and this did not get done until 8pm that night!! Hotel is lovely but it just needs some better cleaning methods. The bar serves really great food in a cozy atmosphere.
