Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ok location, Zero service, No views, Inconvenient rooms Location: - not located too conveniently from anywhere except a few really good kebab places around and the Yarra Promenade at about 20 min walk - the southern cross station and a couple of shopping centers are at a 5-10 min walk - those traveling with babies / children / elderly - keep in mind, any walking from the hotel involves a lot of street crossing and negotiating heavy vehicular traffic. - about 90 min drive to the Peninsula Hot Springs Service / Amenities: - room floors and staircases within rooms are noisy (somewhat rickety even!) - no house phones! - there's literally no staff - even to help you take your luggage up and around the never-ending hallways that need you to walk for 5-7 minutes just to get to your room! - the hotel manager Denis is very friendly but that doesn't really change much about what you need from a hotel and what you get from the Grand Hotel. - The housekeeper - apparently, the only one - a condescending, matron-like old lady will embarrass you with strange questions if you request her to change the sheets. - absolutely no HK support in less than a 2-day interval - not even basic room tidying, utility item replenishment, etc. so if you have small children or spill some coffee on the floor by mistake, God save you! - the hotel has 2 lifts (that I know of) but one has floor restrictions and you have to be sure you've taken the right one to reach the lobby or it's easy to get lost in this huge, ancient building with lot of hallways, no house phones, and no support staff Personal experience: - we prefer to use fresh towels everyday - when we asked for towels, the housekeeping lady told us to get them from her cart and carry them back to our room. (if the hotel wants to behave like a self-service Ibis, it needs to become an Ibis first!) overall, it's a strange setup for a hotel - there are simple homestays in remote locations across the world with better facilities and service orientation! Not recommended at all for the price! Room Category: One Bedroom Apartment

What a stunning place to stay, from the room to the amenities, the check in staff were so lovely, the kind woman even helped me bring my bags to my room and Denis has a kind nature. It's like staying in a palace, large corridors, and just gorgeous.

I have stayed here everytime i come to Melbourne. With close proximity to the convention centre, the location is perfect for everything you need to do in the city of Melbourne. All the rooms are slightly different, with their own personality - so it gives a historical twist on your stay you wouldnt get with chain hotels. I was able to check in hours earlier at no extra cost & was very looked after. Zero complaints!

Great hotel in a wonderful old building. Have stayed here multiple times in various different rooms, all very spacious and well equipped. Dennis the General Manager is always friendly and very helpful. Good location for trams and Southern Cross Station. Has a swimming pool and gym which is a bonus.

A wonderful charming old hotel, with a magnificent friendly staff. Stayed there for 18 days and loved it. But you have to appreciate old and not expect everything to be modern. Though everything is working well. And if not the manager Denis were there always to take care of things.

Our room was quite large with a full kitchen and a second floor with a comfortable bed and lots of storage space. The toilet (with sink as well) was in a separate room from the tub, shower, and sink which was very convenient. The hotel is right by the Southern Cross station and trams to just about everything. The hotel is a bit older and shows it wear a bit, but still a very pleasant stay.

I booked a studio each for my son and I and we were both upgraded to one bedroom apartments, which were amazing. Denis and his staff did everything they could to make our stay a good one. I would recommend the Grand Hotel Melbourne to anyone, will definitely be using it as our Melbourne base from now on.

It’s close to the train station for commuting from regional vic, the staff are lovely and friendly , the heritage rooms are all so beautiful . I love that they are sound proofed ,and there’s a pool and also parking is ample. it’s great place to stay for CBD exploring!
