We traveled to Melbourne from SW Vic to attend a friends 50 th wedding anniversary and decided on the Windsor as it was close to the event location. Arriving at peak hour on Friday afternoon valet parking was efficient and hassle free. Our basic room was ample and we changed into our formal clothes and headed off to the evening event. On our return just before midnight the temperature in our room had increased to nearly 30 C, we had not touched the Airconditioning controls prior to our departure. When we tried to turn the heating off we found the controls had no effect. We could not open the window and had to open the door to the hallway to get some relief. The response to our first call to the hotel desk told us they would turn the heating down but it could take half an hour to change. Our next call requested keys to open the window which they said would be forthcoming in a few minutes. After no response in about ten minutes I then visited the front desk demanding some action. The guy on the desk pleaded that they were understaffed and the night manager would be with us shortly, After another 10 minutes baking in the room, we packed to leave and presented ourselves to the desk to check out at just before 1:00 am. Only then did we get offered another room with its own split AC system. We did not turn it on and finally got a decent nights sleep. With the lack of overnight staff, I’m not sure we could of got our car back anyway. The staff were professional during this difficult time but overall it was one of our worst Hotel experiences, and certainly not something we would have expected from The Windsor.…
We choose the Windsor as we stayed there in the Victoria suite on our honeymoon and had anniversary dinners in grandball room for years after we our daughter booked 2 nights in a superior room as the suite wasn't available it was a Mother day package advertised with Louis roederer Champagne and chocolate breakfast the noise from Tram in Spring st kept us up till 12. We enjoyed breakfast and managed to recreate one of our Wedding photos but we decided not to stay the second night we were offered a quieter room but decided to leave on departure on returning home I checked the Champagne that we were served in the room as realized that we were given an inferior Champagne a Stonegate which is about $12.00 a bottle which was really disappointed as the Louis Roederer $74.00 a bottle on departure I suggested that we receive a voucher for breakfast which management agreed to we were asked if there was anything else they could assist with my husband emailedand said a bottle of the LR would have been nice they replied that the next time we book they will supply a bottle of LR…
The most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in and the kindest staff I’ve ever encountered - nothing was a problem, they offered public transport advice and great attention to detail. The building is beautifully maintained and has a lovely history to it
Disappointing - not the Windsor of old - tired surrounds, unmotivated (bordering on rude) staff, overpriced and underwhelming My husband and I received a superior room and breakfast gift for our recent wedding as a present from some of my workmates. After a couple of cancellations due to covid restrictions, we set off excitedly for our overnight stay at the Windsor. We arrived at 1.30pm in readiness for our 2pm check in. Nobody greeted me at the entrance or offered to assist with our bags, despite a bored looking gentleman averting his gaze. Arrived at reception counter where I was ignored for a good five minutes (I would have thought at least a ‘will be with you in a moment’ would have been warranted and easily given). Provided my gift certificate and acknowledged I was a little early (by this time it was around 1.45pm) and was told my room wasn’t ready and wouldn’t be ready until 2pm - which was fine as check in wasn’t until 2 but the young woman at reception advised that in any case she couldn’t check in because my husband had made the booking. My husband has gone to park the car so was not with me at the time however I showed my voucher which clearly showed ‘mr and Mrs’. Still no, need to have husband check in. I was becoming slightly annoyed by this time, when she said ‘I suppose I could call him’ which I thought was ridiculous but she did and then my husband arrived while she called. All good we were told to wait in the (ripped and substandard couch - pic attached - not what I would expect for the standard of why I thought the Windsor stood for) and she would let us know when room was ready. By the time it was 2.10pm I again lined up and asked if the room was ready - no - not yet I was told. I asked when she said soon. I said that is what you said before and it is now after check in time commenced. . I asked to speak to a manager and said that we needed to check in as we had an event . we needed to get to by 230 and were running out of time. Manager came after further five minutes and said room would be 5’mins and we could go to bar and have a drink while we waited he would give voucher - I said we don’t have time for that - no thanks we need to get into room as we were running late for event. 8 mins later still sitting on ripped couch with other disgruntled and disillusioned customers and I went again and asked for manager and he said please take a seat won’t be a moment and around 7 minutes again he said our room was ready. Hallelujah. I said can we have promised drink vouchers and he snottily hurrumphed and got them. On rickety lift there was all grottiness/dirt/debris that could be seen on the roof. Room was ok but I think soured by the lacklustre experience of check in - finally got into room around 2.40pm. Pros: bed was comfy, bathroom large. We got up and went to breakfast, which I’d have to say was a magnificent experience -and what I would have expected all Along. Lovely setting, great service and beautiful food.…
