Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Royce as we were going to see Wynton Marsalis at Hamer Hall so it was convenient to catch the tram outside the hotel. The hotel is situated further down St Kilda Rd behind the Shrine but it's only a short walk to Domain Rd cafes and restaurants.
There are still some ongoing tram work going on outside the hotel but no real hassle driving into the hotel from St Kilda Rd for valet parking ($70).
The Royce hotel has been refurbished with art deco touches and lots of mirrored and shiny surfaces throughout the hotel. Our room was comfortable if a bit on the small side with a balcony and view of the grammar school and city.
The only let down is the food, we ate before the gig and the pommes frites were cold which I sent back and the next serving was only a slight improvement. The waiter did take the cost of the chips off the bill which was a good gesture. Next morning at breakfast service was friendly and cheerful but the scrambled eggs were just ok and the toast was stale or overcooked.
It's a nice hotel with great staff but the food is a let down so not sure I'd stay there again as it's a fairly expensive hotel.

Is an average boutique hotel. Decoration is swanky, the room is beautiful. We had the Boulevard Suite, very beautiful layout. Things look nice and clean. As this is F1 period, I know they would be busier than normal since their location is excellent to F1 venue. Their reception are all very friendly, chatty and willing to help. Their wine bar place is nicely layout and all the staff in the wine bar work very hard. I would single out one Chinese lady who works at the bar, constantly on her toes, very cheerful despite being overwhelm and work fast. Gym is 24hrs, only 2 modern treadmills, 1 bicycle, some weights but never busy.
Why 3.5 star after all these?
1. Wifi. Is constantly dropping out when you’re in the study table room.
2. Housekeeping is poor. The glasses in the bathroom are never wash, You can see the stain of toothpaste in the glasses. The bathtub is very nice, similarly you can see hair floating when you want to take a bath. Things are not top up, I’ve to ask for top up 2 days in a row. Floor is also not vacuum, I’ve to encourage by putting tips on the bed.
3. Each time you call housekeeping, it goes to reception and things take ages to arrive or not at all.
4. Gym has no towel or cleaning agent. I’ve to ask for towel one day at reception and the guy bought up 3 small towels.
5. There is no Air con in the bed area. We've to switch it at the living hoping to catch some air into bedroom. if 1 person wakes up earlier and wants to switch off air con, the person can't close the door of the bedroom as the person still sleeping will be suffocated. :)
This can be a great hotel but their housekeeping needs better training and attention to details. The gym has to be more hygiene focus since no one can wipe it down after they use the machine or weights.

We recently stayed at The Royce which has had an amazing refurbishment. This boutique hotel offers a far superior experience compared with chain hotels.
All staff we spoke with were immaculately presented and offered genuine, warm service. Everyone had a big smile on their face and were passionate about what they do.
The room was beautiful and large with a great terrace that had views of the Botanic Garden’s, The Shrine & the CBD.
Beautifully presented and meticulously clean. The rooms have a perfect mix of technology, without overdoing it.
All the basics have been thought through. From the writing desk to the luggage storage & wardrobe, it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into the design & functionality.
We loved the different spaces in the hotel and The Conservatory where breakfast is served was our absolute favourite. Such a great spot for a morning coffee and a bite to eat.
We used the valet parking which was quick & convenient and at a reasonable cost. The tram being on the door step was so handy for quick shopping trips into the city.
Thank you Royce Team for a great couple of nights.

We felt the hotel was more like a three star with the service. We arrived on Friday and later after an evening in the city were informed that the bar was closed at 10:30! So we couldn’t have a late night drink. The next day room service hadn’t cleaned our room and when I rang housekeeping at 5pm was told that the housekeeping staff had left for the day and there was no one available to clean the room!

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night after finishing the Around the Bay bike ride. I picked this hotel because it was a short walk from the park where the ride ended and it looked nice on the website. It’s actually very nice and very modern and the front desk staff gave us a big welcome (in our bike gear). It’s in a residential area with a tram right in front for getting around. There is currently construction on the tramway which made traffic out front difficult and hard for our Uber pickups to get to. We preferred staying in the CBD for location but our room in this hotel was very nice and very comfortable and we had a lovely private patio but no view to speak of. Rather than eating in the hotel modern restaurant we took an Uber to a pub in Port Melbourne and had a fun casual dinner. Back at the hotel we went to the ultra modern bar for drinks and had great service but the place was empty. The staff are trying really hard and I hope that the place becomes known. If you have a reason to stay in this area then I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stunning boutique hotel once a Rolls-Royce showroom and you can still feel that.
Art Deco style. Loads of chrome, mirrors with a blingy feel.
Rooms are sumptuous luxury. Staff very friendly and helpful.
My one disappointment was breakfast. I ordered crumpets which took forever to arrive so our coffee was finished and tea stewed and cold.
They were not like any crumpet I had ever had.
Other than that, this is amazing hotel in a good location. Walk to Botanical Garden and short tram ride from outside the hotel into the city or a 20 min walk to South Yarra high street.
There are cafes and restaurants close by. Domain Village 10 mins walk good for cafes as well.

Gorgeous renovations made to this beautiful unique property, staff were all lovely and the bar where we had a drink was impressive. However, given the road works underway out the front of the property, the small size of our king balcony room (there is minimal view due to the design of the balcony wall) and the very underwhelming bathroom, shower had issues with a weak water shower head and the water was either too hot or luke warm. I felt $409 per night plus $70 for car parking is not worth it. We travel a lot and stay in many properties each month, this is very overpriced for what it is. Especially given you need to tram or drive to anywhere for dinner/lunch.

+1
James & Miquel at the front desk showed outstanding service, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We took advantage of the valet parking and our car was ready when requested, we were offered free water, and an umbrella when it was raining. James even helped me with our invoice at the end to ensure all charges were correct.
Our room was fantastic, bed was comfortable, breakfast was delicious, and the overall decor and cleanliness is the best we have seen in a hotel.
Location on St Kilda road was perfect, just away from the hustle of the city but the tram stop to get you to the city was right out the front.
We will be back. Thank you- Royce Hotel

My husband and I had 5 nights at The Royce and loved our stay. Our room (301) was very comfortable and had one of the best beds we’ve ever slept in. I’ve now bought a pillow topper for our bed at home to recreate the comfort.
We had a balcony off our room which had an outdoor setting with plush cushions. There were great teas, a coffee pod machine and Molton Brown toiletries
We had breakfast every morning in the conservatory restaurant. There was a large menu and everything we tried was delicious. Coffee was very good
Each night we had a glass of wine in the Showroom Bar and we had a lobster roll and octopus one night
Service was friendly and helpful
We would be happy to stay at the Royce next time we’re in Melbourne
