This is the second time I was staying at GSH,Melbourne - for the AO.
As expected, the staff were super friendly, the room was CLEAN and the ambiance was quiet.
Breakfast ( included in the tariff) was pretty good, varied and the staff were polite. Try the fresh fruits section and the pan cakes with maple syrup.
On my request, the smart staff at the Reception allotted a road facing room with great views and very convenient for early morning walkers like me.
Located very near the tram stop for the AO and the Southern Cross Station , the hotel is value for money.
Recommended.

Hotel was clean and newly refurbed by the look. Shower and bathroom clean. I booked the hotel due to location close to Skybus Terminal and Southern Cross Station (only 1 block away) and I was only needed a bed for the night at a budget price. Hotel more than met my expectations for this and I would be quite happy to stay here again.

unfortunately I was very disappointed with the room, I was smelly, the AC was very noisey, I could hear the people stomping around all hours of the night from the room above (it would wake me up), it was very dirty the window sills etc had a lot of dust and bugs. The staff on the other hand were amazing, always smiling, friendly and helpful - this is the reason why I didn’t give the place 0 stars. Will not be staying here again.

For $84/night this hotel was exceptional. If you want to be close to public transport ie Southern Cross Station across the road, trams at doorstep, 5 min walk to Casino precinct, you cannot beat this.
Our room was soundproof - no noise whatsoever. they are small but what do you need other than a clean room, bed and shower. It has been renovated. Our 'go to' for Melbourne now.

Very spacious room with a view down onto Spencer Street. Seeing it overlooked a major street, there was no noise to contend with. The only downside, a minor problem, the room was a double one with only one chair. Restaurant had a great range of meals with generous size serves for the price.

Was really pleased with my stay here. Rooms have been updated and very clean and comfortable. Even tissues in room. So close to transport to get to events. Very little noise transmitted into room and secure access.

Stayed here for an overnight getaway with my partner. It was good value and the facilities were better than expected for a hotel in this price range. Staff were pleasant and helpful, there is a car park at the property available to guests for a reasonable cost. The room was not flash but it was well equipped. The metal internal staircase & balustrade resembled a prison block but other than that the hotel is tastefully decorated. Would recommend for a brief stay.

Stayed one night perfect for early morning departure from Southern Cross Station. Room was basic however clean apart from the air conditioner vent which looks like it needs attention. Front reception staff lovely and welcoming. Didn't eat in the restaurant so can't give a review of the food. Probably could have used a little more in the provided toiletries department. Reasonable rate for a Melbourne city hotel.

I have stayed at quite a few mid and budget hotels in Melbourne and am always quite forgiving when reviewing, understanding what you pay for and what you expect.
I think the main reason I was so let down by this was because I’ve stayed in the Travelodge, Atlantis and Rydges for the same price and their quality on offer was much higher.
The location is good, but the rooms are so dated, the noise was unbearable, and I had no window for the room. I would say a private room in a hostel might rate a bit higher. I rarely say I wouldn’t stay again but this just wasn’t a great experience.
The staff were lovely and no issues there.
The noise came from other rooms above and beside with creaking of floors and hearing stairs constantly. The hot water in the bathroom would take up to 5-10 min to heat up. The rooms were clean, so it’s not a place that’s inhabitable, nor would I say avoid it. But if others surrounding are same price, I suggest to book those.

It’s hard to know how to rate this hotel. The location is brilliant and the room I had was clean, quite modern, bed was comfortable and quiet (I did request that). The hotel itself is dated generally and has a tired feel. Staff were helpful enough but it’s not a well oiled machine - often had to wait for eggs at breakfast and the voucher system is a bit of a pain. The bathroom light/fan come on at the same time and the fan was very noisy! As was the heater/air conditioner. I think when you look at the price it’s very good considering its location but it’s probably a 2 star hotel at best anywhere else. The paperwork they make you sign when you check in is scary - all about aggressive behavior, disposal of sharps, thriving your stuff outbid the room if you stay past check out at 10 am without paying… hope that helps you all with a decision :)
