Nestled close to MCG, the CBD, and public transportation, Mantra on Jolimont Melbourne garners praise for its location, despite the aging infrastructure. Guests have called out the spacious rooms with kitchen and laundry facilities, though some lament the absence of a full-service restaurant. While opinions on the rooms are divided due to dated decor and maintenance issues, cleanliness and roomy interiors are well-regarded. The atmosphere suits families and concertgoers, but service quality has been inconsistent. Cleanliness maintains a high standard overall, and while some guests question the value, others find the pricing fair.

I recently stayed at Mantra on Jolimont Melbourne, and while the location and amenities were generally satisfactory, my experience was marred by an issue regarding my loyalty program benefits.

Who says that booking directly with Accor.com as an Accor Silver Plus member gives you the benefits you're entitled to? Despite my request and I could see the availability of rooms, the male receptionist could not honor my 2pm checkout benefit. This was quite disappointing and not in line with the level of service I have come to expect from this hotel chain.

Mantra on Jolimont Melbourne had been a hotel I was curious about, so for our 5th wedding anniversary, we decided to book a night here before flying out of Melbourne.

A few days before check-in, I emailed the hotel about our special occasion. I received a reply from their Accor off-site central reservations team, stating they had passed my enquiry through to the hotel's direct reception. All sounded good.

On the day of check-in, everything went smoothly thanks to a very friendly manager, Firas. However, there was no mention or acknowledgment of my email about our anniversary. When I asked, Firas stated they had not received anything from me! It must have been a communication mishap, so I mentioned we were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. Firas offered a bottle of De Bortoli Shiraz Cabernet, which I initially declined but later accepted with gratitude.

The hotel has an outdoor heated pool and a simple gym. The room is spacious with a kitchenette, and every two rooms share a laundry room with a dryer (washing powder can be purchased at reception), making it convenient for guests needing to do laundry.

When it came to late checkout, I called the reception and requested a 2pm checkout as we were leaving Melbourne later in the day. I was initially told no. After pushing harder, the snippy male receptionist stated their standard checkout time is 10am and could only extend it to 12pm. Despite my Accor status, which entitles me to a late checkout, and the availability of rooms during this low season, the male receptionist wouldn't extend beyond 12pm until I asked to speak to the duty manager. He finally agreed to extend it to 1pm. Tiring of the conversation, I left it at that.

I feel that at Mantra on Jolimont Melbourne, not only was there a communication lapse at check-in, but you also need to fight hard to request a late checkout, despite room availability. Additionally, don't expect finer details like welcome drinks for elite members to be offered proactively.

At all other Accor hotels I’ve stayed, welcome drinks are proactively offered to elite members upon check-in, but not at Mantra on Jolimont Melbourne.

It’s a shame that while the stay was decent, the failure to accommodate my 2pm checkout request left a negative impression and marred our stay experience. I hope the management addresses this issue to ensure better service for loyal members in the future.

Arrived just after 2 and couldn't check in till 3.15 as we were told they were short cleaning staff. Parking was not available and we asked to park outside but were told a skip bin was arriving in that space (3 days later still no skip bin) so we were directed to Wilson Parkin which was a 20 min walk and at $35 a day. The fridge was off balanced so the door sometimes didn't shut, the cutlery draw rubbed on the right-hand side of the cupboard so making it difficult to open. Water pressure in the shower i wouldn't rate and only needed the hot water tap on. We paid for a 1One Bedroom King Apartment and can definately advise that the One Bedroom King Apartment shown on the did was not the same space we had. Our room was very small and felt cramped compared to what a One Bedroom King Apartment advertised via photos on the web looked like - we would have just been better off with a studio for less. The restaurant is closed yet that doesn't say that on their website so no options for breakfast or dinner so we had to uber eats and have delivered. We really only stayed there as the closeness to the MCG and AAMI was all we wanted as we had 3 sporting events we were attending. I personally don't think it's worth the cost and having no restaurant I feel doesn't help. Was more disappointed

I have shared your comments with the whole team to ensure we are addressing your concerns regarding the hot water tap. As mentioned our restaurant is currently closed and we are working on plans to re open later in the year as our workforce returns, I hope our location nearby to the events was of beneficent during your stay. We have stayed in a large number of hotels in the Melbourne CBD and needed reasonably priced accommodation for a single night to go to a concert at the nearby Sydney Myer music bowl. It is a little tricky to navigate the roads leading to Brunton Avenue as there are no u- turns & stopping zones but google maps helped & I am familiar with the area. I should have paid more attention to the parking as it needed to be pre-paid & there were no bays available. That said the staff were very helpful with on street parking including costs & hourly rates. I would recommend for a short stay but prefer hotels with restaurants & a bar 7 days.

Dear Birt1964, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re glad to hear that our team was able to assist you with parking options and that our location suited your plans for the concert at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl. We understand that navigating the area and pre-arranging parking can sometimes be tricky, and we appreciate your feedback. We’ll continue to explore ways to improve how we communicate parking information to make the process smoother for our guests. While we don’t offer a full restaurant or bar service 7 days a week, we do hope that the convenience of our location and the efforts of our team made your stay enjoyable. Your feedback helps us improve, and we’ll certainly keep it in mind as we review our services and offerings. Thank you for recommending us for short stays, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for another visit. If there’s anything we can do to enhance your next experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Regards, Luna Nguyen General Manager

Fantastic location for the MCG or the Tennis or an event, but there are issues.

Big Plusses
- The beds were very comfortable
- Room(s) were clean
- Staff were great

Negatives
The initial room we were booked into (616) was incredibly tired and dated and nothing like the images of the room type on the site. The couch was tattered (frayed), looked dirty and worn out - not appealing at all, and when sitting on it, you sank quite deeply - and not in a comforting way. It certainly seemed like false advertising or a bait and switch. It was not the standard of other Mantras we have stayed in previously, and this was quite disappointing.

The kitchen cupboards and drawers were falling off their hinges and looked like you would expect from a 30 year old kitchen (laminate peeling/chipping off them).

The freezer compartment was in need of defrosting as the ice build up was thick enough that it meant we couldn't fit the ice-cream we had bought (and had to throw it out).

I mentioned these issues the first night, and they offered to move us to a different room (701) and this was much better - not quite as good as a friend's room, but much nicer.

There were a couple of issues though, one being a major one. The showers were at best - luke warm, and at worst - dangerous. (We also checked with friends in another room and theirs was the same). The shower essentially had 3 temperatures, and nothing in between. They could either be full cold, warmish (with low water pressure), or scalding hot - all within less than 1mm (or 1 degree) of adjusting the hot water tap. This was especially difficult for our special needs teenage daughter, but also frustrating for us. If the hotel is unable or unwilling to fix this dangerous situation, they should turn down the entire building's hot water thermostat. It is not safe (or pleasant) how it is. Even my wife who usually has very hot showers, was not able to stand the heat. This situation alone will make us (and our friends), not stay at the hotel again.

If it weren't for the showers being so dangerous (or disappointing), the review would have been much higher.

This is our third time staying at this hotel and we'll keep coming back. First time as parents though and it did not disappoint, only made the experience more enjoyable with the amount of space. Dishwasher and dryer inclusive in the room, which makes it handy for kids mess and quickly cleaning it up. Breakfast was delicious and filled our little kiddies tummys and the adults didn't complain either. Parking was perfect as we hit Melbourne on foot, but when necessary was good to have the car there also.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment for a month and it really felt like a home away from home.
The room was clean with a kitchen and was serviced weekly however, the staff would provide daily towels and rubbish collection if needed.
The rooms are a bit dated but functional.
I used the full sized pool which was heated and small gym also available.

Thought we coming to 4 star but the one bedroom apartment was like student accommodation- maybe worse! Also if you want your room to be cleaned you need to request it and only clean towels given in request!! After requesting, we had to go back and ask again as not changed. Shocking when it’s nit cheap to stay here.

Great location for the Australian Open tennis. Easy walk to all arenas. Property is dated but fairly clean. Air conditioner not working and couldn’t be fixed apparently during my stay. Housekeeping service is by request only and notice you must ask for it the day before. Restaurant only open for breakfast. Accor welcome drink was bottled water left in the room. I have stayed at the property 7 times before and I can see they are scaling back or streamlining their customer service.

Quick check in, friendly staff. Upon entering room and opening fridge it was found to be full of water as it had defrosted. As our room was on the reception floor, we attended the desk and the issue as promptly rectified. Having purchased some drinks as there are no bars in close walking distance, and not being able to open a bottle as no bottle opener in the room it was another trip to reception to obtain one as well as champagne glasses and decent drinking size glasses. After attempting to wash up it was found that the plug didn't fit the sink, hence another trip to reception, however it was unattended.
We had a two bedroom apartment with the beds split to singles. The beds had been made up with the king/queen doona doubled over on 1 bed and the other bed had a thin blanket, so a single doona from the other room was swapped for the doubled over one due to the heat of the doubled over doona.
While the above are not deal breakers, 5.00 am the following morning is, trains, trains, trains right outside the windows (2) of the second bedroom starting at 4.30 am and increasing from there. There are about 4 train lines with at times 3 trains passing at simultaneously making sleep impossible. At breakfast the first morning of our stay another guest on an upper floor complained of the same problem and couldn't believe how loud they were. We both said we were going to buy some ear plugs today. On our way out to the tennis we stopped at reception to ask a question and joked whether they had ear plugs because of the trains. Staff brought out a large container full of ear plugs and gave me enough or the next 2 nights. Obviously the hotel knows the train noise is a problem and still books out the rooms on the side near the tracks. This is totally unacceptable and these rooms should not be booked out. The ear plugs muffled the sound of the train but they were still too loud to stay asleep. Upon check out and advising how loud the trains are and how they disrupt sleep we were told "the seals on the double glazing must be loose" and management would be advised. In any other hotel a gesture of goodwill eg not paying for breakfast would be offered, however there wasnt even an apology.
Whilst the hotel is close to the sporting precinct, there are no bars, cafes or convenience stores close by. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else and if you do stay here avoid room 107 and those directly above it.

Being close walking distance to the MCG and city was convenient. Staff were friendly on check in and check out. Room we stayed in had dirty marks on walls and doors and large amounts of mould in the shower put us off. Had issues with shower not working properly reported it first thing in the morning to be told they were too busy to look at it and would get to it when they could and in the meantime to deal with it or shower in change rooms in the gym, we didn’t pay almost $1000 to shower in a change room.
