We stayed at The Como for two nights over the Easter long weekend and got a great deal through the Accor sale. Stayed in a 1 bedroom with spa bath and it was so spacious, comfortable and clean. Our request for a quiet room with views and twin beds was met and the black out curtains provided a nice sleep. Spa bath was amazing and you get to keep their cute rubber duck. The rooftop pool was great with the retractable roof and sauna and gym facilities. Advice: book the pool in advance as due to Covid, they have limited numbers per hour. Great location with Chapel St and shops, cafes, restaurants and Palace Cinema just below and within easy walk. The Como Park is beautiful and peaceful as it's hidden from the main roads. Only minor issues: - no easily accessible power plugs in the bedroom, maybe cause of the twin beds, it was hard to find but it was right at the bottom under the beds. Even if it's king bed, the location of the plugs are not great as it's not at the side table level, so the cables probably can't reach the table and you don't want to be crawling on floor level to plug in your phone charger etc. But you can charge it at the big desk outside. - housekeeping didn't push the twin beds to proper position after room was cleaned, it was pushed against windows instead. Easy to push it back into position. - request for late check out was granted but the keycard was not programmed to the later time so couldn't go back into lift and room and had to go back to reception to reactivate it. Overall, really enjoyed our stay and it's big and spacious, unlike most standard hotels with a long hallway and so many rooms just next/opposite each other. Will definitely stay at The Como again.…
I spent 5 nights at the Como last week and can strongly recommend the hotel. I was in Melbourne for work having only started travelling again fairly recently. I was given a beautiful room on the third floor. The room had a garden which was a massive bonus as I was able to sit out there to relax at the end of the day. I had some stand out service from Grace and Aaron as well as a lady with red hair whose name now alludes me. Overall my impression was that the staff are trying really hard to get the hotel back on its feet after multiple lockdowns. I am due back in Melbourne again for work later this month and will be re-booking the Como!
True 4.5 star boutique hotel. Excellent location close to CBD in busy South Yarra with lots of great restaurants and shopping. Lovely rooms and friendly team. Reasonably priced for the area. Happy to stay again and recommend if you like to be a bit outside the CBD.
My first hotel stay in COVID times saw me catch the train to South Yarra, and its legendary hotel The Como. Adjoining Channel 10 studios, it has attracted many celebrity guests over the years. A hotel with this reputation could easily be intimidating to Regular Joes like me, but the staff were friendly, polite and accommodating – they made me feel like a celebrity :-) Hotel staff called me the day before check-in to confirm my reservation and any special requests. A 12pm check-out and feather-free room were happily accommodated. The Como is 2 blocks from South Yarra railway station. An easy walk, but a tram is also available. The location is fantastic, with trams to the city and also the Chapel Street shopping precinct. Big W and Woolworths are next door. There are many restaurants nearby, and a David Jones food hall across the road. Sadly the food hall is set to close soon. Our room was not available on arrival. Staff were apologetic, providing drinks whilst we waited and taking our luggage to the room ahead of us. They advised we had been upgraded to a Japanese Garden View Suite, so it was worth the wait! The room was huge, with 2 single beds plus a double sofa bed, table and chairs for 4, and a kitchen with microwave, fridge and sink. Milk was in the fridge, and tea, coffee and hot chocolate mix were provided. There were 2 wardrobes with shelves to set your suitcase on, along with a suitcase sling. The TV had local and cable channels, and on-screen hotel information. The TV remote was sealed in plastic, as was the kitchen cutlery – a reminder of the times we live in. There was a patio area in the Japanese Garden, accessible through sliding glass doors, with a table and chairs for guest use. The bathroom featured a separate shower and spa, and the signature Como rubber duck – now taking pride of place in my home bathroom :-) Bathroom amenities were generous – shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, bar soap, dental kit, vanity kit, shower cap and sanitary bag. The bathroom sink also had a plug – not something you see in too many hotels. Bathrobes were provided, as well as a hairdryer. For COVID safety, the pool and gym were only available by pre-booking a 1hr slot. I was able to secure pool access twice, but not gym access. The first time I had the rooftop pool to myself, but the second time I had to share. The heated pool is 1.2m deep and long enough to swim laps. It has a glass roof, and is accessible by stairs (as is the gym) – I saw no evidence of disabled access. There are sunlounges, pool towels and shower facilities. The gym is next door and has cardio equipment, dumbbells and some weight machines. Other COVID safety measures include hand santizer stations by the lifts on every floor, and a limit of 2 people in the lifts at a time. The breakfast used to be a buffet, but is now a la carte with self-serve juices, tea and coffee. Staff will brew a nice latte for you if you're not a Nespresso fan. The breakfasts (included in our rate) were huge and delicious. Staff were happy to accommodate dietary preferences, swapping breakfasts meats for vegetarian options at no extra charge. The tables in the breakfast room were well spaced and hand santizer was available. I’m not sure if this was a COVID safety measure, but the absence of a clock radio or bedside docking station in our room was notable. A few more railings or holding points in the bathroom would also have been handy. My travel partner noted the shower to be a bit slippery, and the spa was so deep I think most people would struggle to get in and out without a railing. I had been hesitant to stay in a hotel in COVID times. I had packed my antibacterial wipes, convinced I’d need to wipe down everything before feeling comfortable in the room. But I was relieved to discover a safe and friendly environment in The Como, and was truly sad to leave. My first COVID hotel stay was amazing, and I can't wait for the next one! …
We stay at he Como frequently and that is for good reason. It is close to some great restaurants and bars on Chapel St and the ambiance at the hotel is very chilled. Nice touch by the General manager to have a glass of sparkling on a arrival. Will be back again soon!
