Detailed Reviews
The standard rooms are recommended for single or max a couple with a child though you could organise a roll away bed for $60 a night. For a family of 7 people we were upgraded to twin room suites which is more spacious the rooms are beautiful even the standard rooms but if space is important to you and your family twin room siites are more suitable. The rooms and the building itself do lack a modern tech importance for guests where they don’t have usb wall chargers which in this day and age seems important to charge mobile phones and tablets people are always in need of using. The hotel staff are exceptionally proficient and professional very helpful as well. The room did not have self contained laundry however it does have a laundry room where guests can wash and dry the clothes for free but you just need your own laundry powder. Overall we loved our stay here its right in town and so walking around to shops and restaurants was so easy but it was very during the New Year 2020 week.

I stayed in the new Superior Queen room on the 14th floor, it was quiet, relaxing, and no one bothered me. The bathroom in this room type compared to the ones i have stayed in before is now modern and state of the art fixtures, it felt like it was just built before i got here - well done for that.
Its close to everything you want, shops, food, fashion, bars, clubs and most of all you can walk to most of these hence why i choose to stay here.
I have stayed here now approx. 7-10 times over the last 10 years as i choose this property as my getaway.
Upon my checkin - Judith had the biggest smile on her face which led to a warm and friendly checkin experience from her thank you Judith....

Love the location the clean rooms and the size of the rooms. Our 2 bedroom included a kitchen with an oven, stove top and dishwasher. We had an event to attend in the city and this hotel was close by. So happy with the fact that we could come back to the room and made ourselves coffees after our hot showers. The chairs were super comfy and the beds were even better. Check in was great and easy and Valet was awesome. Thanks again.

We stayed in One Bedroom King Suite and there are several negatives about this hotel.
1. We chose king suite because we wanted to use jacuzzi bathtub as we were planning to walk a lot during our stay in Melb. The bathtub is arguably by far smallest size we’ve ever come across. The toilet is also very small just to fit into some 1 x 1 sqm space. The jacuzzi bathtub is visibly old and the thought of going into the confined space was not appealing to me or my husband.
The bathroom layout also makes it very claustrophobic- There’s no door between bathroom vanity and bed. The door is between the vanity and bathtub+ toilet. When you close the door you’re literally in the tiniest space and it wasn’t very relaxing.
2. Room facing so close to other building means we had no opportunity to get any sunlight during our stay and staying in the old carpet old paint room with no opportunity to getting any sunlight meant our stay was simply depressing.
We weren’t even expecting some impressive city vista or looking over garden or river. We just wanted to get some sunlight into our room but it wasn’t possible.
3. Street noise was something we’ve never experienced before during our numerous cbd hotels. We always thought if we check into respectable hotels a good night sleep is something guaranteed but Stamford Plaza wasn’t the case. Waking up with no proper sleep wasn’t fun.
4. Always out of reach reception was also another thing that we were put off by. We forgot to pack our toothbrush so wanted to ask hotel to bring us one as there wasn’t one readily available in the bathroom.
How many times do you have to ring the reception or housekeeping for toothbrush? Many times.
Positivities are location and good lightings throughout the room. But we wouldn’t choose Stamford Plaza again since we got no good night sleep due to street noise, depressing stay due to the proximity to the building to our room making it impossible to have curtains open and old rundown room.

Dear asiandub1, Warm Wishes from the Stamford Plaza Melbourne and thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. Although you enjoyed our central city location, we regret your stay with us was underwhelming in most other areas, especially regarding aspects of the suite and noise you experienced. We do have upgrade plans in the pipeline for the not so distant future and appreciate your detailed feedback which will be reviewed in relation to these upgrade plans. Similarly, we do regret the difficulty you had contacting some of our departments. We have shared your feedback with our Front Office and Housekeeping Management teams and apologise for the break down in our usual standards on this occasion. We weren’t given what we asked for. We booked early and expected two beds but only received one. We payed to be on a higher level but was placed on a lower level. We were also promised complementary water, which we had to continuously ask for. Toilet paper, tea and sugar weren’t replaced on a regular basic and we were charged to use the phone in the room. The organisation was certainly lacking in management. We even had staff members open up about the issues with the hotel. The two positive aspects was the location and the quality of the food from the hotel.

Just back from I think our 4th visit to Stamford Melb and as I said it’s like putting on a pair of old jeans for the first time each winter – really comfortable.
We really enjoy almost everything about this hotel bit in particular we enjoy how quiet the rooms are (we were in 1220) and how comfortable the beds are.
Our room was not quite ready when we arrived which was fair enough as we were a bit early but the follow up of staff to housekeeping (thanks to Dylan who seemed to be working 24 hours a day) ensured we only had a small wait
Breakfast is simple and more than adequate to start any day
I can’t really say any more if you want a high class hotel with good staff / clean rooms and close enough to city centre but still far enough away to be quiet.
We even had the added excitement of a fire drill at 4.25am one morning although I cant believe why someone would be cooking toast in their room at that hour…………………

I stayed here for 2nights and it has both its good and bad points.
Check in was nice and easy and the staff friendly. When I got into the room it felt like something that would have been posh back in the 80’s. It’s has its own little kitchenette which is handy. The couch and coffee table are old school and not in the good way. There is a massive tv on the wall in the bedroom but could do with some more cable channels and the bed was horrendous, literally sunk right in the middle. The bathroom too is out dated. The hotel is surrounded by other buildings so not really any views. The checkout took about 20mins with the large queue of people.
Best part about the hotel is the location, got some great restaurants around the area with public transport close by. Federation square within walking distance. I wouldn’t stay here again though, much better options out there

Hotel is nothing special, but works OK. The rooms are functional witout any special features. The hotel contacted us right after wee booed and odderd us an "upgrade" at AUD 10 per night to secure a room at 11 floor or above to have better views. We accepede the offer, but only got a room at the 11 florr facing towards other high-rise bulidings with no view at all. Do not accept such an offer, it is totally worthless. Breakfast is very basic, but OK.
Good location with everthing in walking distance.

At the outset I would like to say that the staff at the Melbourne Stamford Plaza were all very helpful and friendly, providing good service, however, our experience here was very disappointing as this was nothing like a 5 star hotel.
Our room was a very odd and impractical layout. A suite where the sitting area was narrow with the lounge facing a blank wall and sink with no TV or window in the area at all. The bathroom was very small (not what was shown in pictures). It had 2 sections with a very small bath/shower combined and a seperate room with basin area. This wet area also is where the wardrobe was located (very strange) and was adjoining the bedroom, but there was no door so we couldn’t shut the bathroom off from the bedroom. It was all very odd and awkward.
The bedroom was very very dark, looking on to another wing tower of the same hotel, directly into another bedroom where we clearly saw people moving about their suite whenever our curtains were open. It was very awkward and unpleasant as we had to have the room in total darkness the whole time we were there, or share our living arrangement with the people in the other tower. Even with the curtain open, the room was still very dark.
We stayed 4 nights but the room was only serviced on request, and even then the bathroom was not cleaned each time. Pool and spa areas were out of action. Elevators broke down at one stage (of course this is beyond their control, but it was just one more thing that happened and we were on the 11th floor).
The cost appeared very reasonable as the hotel is advertised as 5 star, so we thought we were getting a good deal. In retrospect it was way overpriced for what we experienced.
Honestly, the hotel can’t really do anything about it’s location of course, but it really presents itself as something it is really not living up to. If it were less expensive and more up front about what you get it would be better.

We arrived on Boxing Day, the hotel having been told it was my husband’s birthday Christmas Day and mine on New Years Day to have no concierge to meet and greet us. No one was there to help with our suitcases whatsoever. One female receptionist on the pass who gave us our pass cards and informed us our room would be $40.00 extra as we were on the premium 13th floor in the west wing.
Th room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the pillows were somewhat on the firm side. It was very quiet and comfortable.
However we were woken on the Sunday morning at 4.15am to the fire alarm going off. We were on the 13 th floor and it seemed to take along while to get to the ground level. No sooner had we opened the fire door when we were told that it was safe to return. We were not told by management what was going on. It was not until we got back in the lift to return to our room that someone said a man had burnt his toast.
We never received any information from The Stamford at all which we found unacceptable.
Harry’s bar is in need of new lounge chairs as they are really old and quite disgusting for a 4 star hotel. On leaving we were still not offered any assistance with our cases which is not what we would expect from this hotel.
We usually stay at The Stamford whilst in Melbourne and I did expect at the very least a Happy Birthday for my husband.

There is no car park for this hotel on site. You will need to make alternative arrangements.
Only a handful of Foxtel channels (mainly Sports, MAX music, BBC) the rest are all free to air channels.
Sky bus does hotel shuttle once in to the bus station.
This is multicultural Melbourne, in the CBD, so anything goes here. Wear whatever you are comfortable in, and wear it with pride and good confidence, so then other people will complement you on how great you look!
