Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were booked into the Mercure so we could stay close to our son in Royal Childrens Hospital for no reason the hotel cancelled our booking and offered us to rebook the room at a much higher rate. Funny how the rate went up as Taylor, Pink and the Caravan Show were in town! Poor form!

This hotel is listed as 4 star , if this hotel is 4 star , then I am Albert Einstein. The room was dirty as in dusty , the curtains were stained and the walls were marked , the place is in serious need of a makeover , it looks bit like a correctional facility from the outside , the paint is peeling and chipped it is just not in a very good condition. I did not try the restaurant because of this so I cannot comment on that , there also appears to be a staff shortage .the staff that I met however were fine .

Location is fantastic and the cafe/restaurant onsite is perfect. However I was exceptionally disappointed in the lack of cleanliness, hair in the bathroom on the walls and hair in the bed and the carpet was half cleaned at best if at all. Honestly will not stay here again even if it was free!

As an Accor Member I always try to stay at Accor family properties. Mercure North Melbourne was an easy choice as I had appointments close by on the Monday morning. Upon check in we paid $25 for secure parking and were provided with a token to raise the boom gate should we need to move the car from that car park. Overnight it seems the boom gate was not lowered meaning cars could come and go as they please. Sadly in the early hours of the Monday morning a car entered and our rear canopy on my 4 x 4 was smashed causing significant $ damage plus inconvenience. All management could say is that you park at your own risk. To them it did not matter that they had not secured the gate, nothing!!! They openly admitted it was not down as per hotel policy. I have been open in my dealing with them only to be totally stonewalled. I’m not really into bad reviews but this time it’s needed!! Extremely sad outcome. They will lose an Accor member and I certainly will not recommend them to anyone. Stay clear if you think you are paying for something you are not getting!!!

Dear Gary, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While it is regretful that this is the takeaway from your stay at the Mercure North Melbourne, I would like to highlight again that guests park vehicles at their own risk, as advertised by the signs in the car park, and that we assisted with investigations on this matter. I am sorry your experience with us was not a positive one, and sincerely hope to welcome you back in the future to a different scenario. Thank you again for sharing your comments. Kind regards, Anthony Caw General Manager Mercure North Melbourne

Friendly staff. Close to hospitals and Park. Entry door secured overnight. Clean but old rooms. Comfy bed and good aircon. Mini fridge and tea and coffee making supplies. Good for quick overnight stay when visiting hospital nearby. Didn’t have breakfast but looked good when I ordered takeaway coffee.

Terrible hotel for price. Location is convenient as it is near RMH however the rooms are disgraceful. Floor in shower was terribly cracked and peeling. When I complained the person on the desk wanted to see the room. I showed him and he said it was all ok to him and he would move me. Thank goodness for the manager who then was able to move me. It is old and run down. Needs a good upgrade to be able to keep charging these prices for sub standard rooms. Couldn't see out of the dirty windows for big spider webs (not sure where the spiders were hiding!) We were locked out of our room as the key was only valid for one day instead of 3. Not good when you have a patient waiting to recover in the room as you line up 4 deep with only one person on the desk serving. Will definitely not be staying again. Disappointing

It’s clean but tired, such a shame as the location is good as is access in and out of the city and parking. Had dinner in the restaurant, they managed to serve us 3 vodka’s but then ran out! Most disappointed at breakfast time, I had paid and added this at the time of booking - No mention anywhere that they stop serving at 9am (apparently a new thing they decided to do but nothing is updated to reflect this change).

I stayed here mid week for 1 night while attending a nearby conference. The location is great with parks nearby for exercise, easy tram access to the CBD and good car access from the freeway with onsite parking ($25/night). The rooms themselves felt tired. It is clear the hotel was built some time ago and it feels in need of a major renovation. The lift is old. There was not a lot of natural light in the room, however I did appreciate the window that opened and let in fresh air (a rarity these days in hotels). The staff were lovely and courteous. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and good. Overall it was fine for needing somewhere to rest my head overnight, but I got in late and left early (due to a crazy conference schedule). If you had to spend any length of time in the room not sleeping, I’d suggest going somewhere else.

Great little hotel close to everything. The rooms are spacious with everything you need, air conditioning and opening windows, tea and coffee making facilities, shower over bath, warm lighting and comfy bed. Breakfast was a simple selection of cereals, toast, pastries and warm food.

Room I had couldn’t possibly be rated 4 stars, decor needs to brought up to the 21st century for a start. Bed was comfortable. Had to keep curtains closed as there was a clear view to building beside. Bathroom needs major overhaul and a fan would be great. Shower over bath is not the best for elderly people. Room service was quick and tasty but to call again to ask for bottle opener for drinks that came with meal.
