Nestled in a prime spot for city exploration, View Melbourne charms many with its convenient location and stunning views, making it a hit for those visiting the nearby US consulate. Despite mixed feedback, guests often commend the hotel's cleanliness and inviting atmosphere.
The comfortable, modern rooms are a highlight, though some visitors mention noise issues and suggest improvements could be made in service consistency and amenity availability. While value perceptions vary, with some guests pointing out unexpected costs, others feel the rates are reasonable for the experience offered.

Detailed Reviews
My other half had to attend an early medical appointment at The Alfred Hospital on the Monday, so we travelled down to stay at View Hotel overnight on Sunday. Parking was included in the price and we were able to descend into the car park immediately upon identifying ourselves through an intercom. While spaces in the car park were tight and it would be easy to scrape your car if you didn't go slowly and carefully. Our greeting at Reception was friendly and we were allocated a City View room which overlooked the Albert cricket ground, Albert Road, St Kilda Road and the city skyline (through windows could have done with a wash). Furnishings were modern, but plush and warm, with lots of wood finishes. Apart from a splash of bright orange in the decor, the effect was mostly a mix of creams, beiges and greens. Bedlinen was all white on the very comfortable king bed. The flat screen TV faced the bed, but could be swiveled to suit either an armchair or a desk and chair, both by the window. Just inside the entrance was a vestibule comprising wardrobe-dressing space, coffee making facilities and a separate shower room with walk in shower. Fittings throughout were good quality, but the shower room was very small with not much room to put toiletries beside the sink. On the other hand, the vestibule area just outside this shower room had ample extra surface space and drawers to lay out cases and store your possessions, including a safe. Small fridge and tea-making facilities were much the same as any other modern hotel I've stayed in. Arriving at 5.00 pm meant that we were soon looking at dinner options, which (being a Sunday night) unfortunately weren't extensive either in the hotel or out. The receptionist gave us a dinner and breakfast menu which offered dinner from Woods Restaurant: three small meals for about $20 each or four large plate options costing $28 (linguini) to $39 (sirloin). The Hop Garden cafe/bar downstairs was open and we ended up choosing something from there to be delivered to our room. No other eateries nearby seemed to be open. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and we would certainly go to the View hotel again.

Stayed at the parkview for a wedding at a gallery off chapel street.
The location is perfect it’s close enough to the city but as a frequent Melbourne traveller you’ll know the best areas of Melbourne are around and outside the CBD.
We had a great pre wedding meal in the hop garden downstairs, we were enticed down by the smell of the smoker. So we ordered the meat platter which was suggested by the bar girls Valentina and Eilish who were great fun!
On our return Our room was cozy the beds were not like hotel beds they felt new! , we requested slippers and they were brought up without hesitation at 1am!
The changes in the hotel are really starting to take shape from our previous stay the lifts are such an improvement.
We received a complimentary late checkout which assisted our sore heads, and the staff at reception made our checkout easy.
Will definitely be back for our own couples getaway!

I booked a pet friendly room at hotels.com for $175, when we arrived the room there was a dog bed and bowls, I read in the Pooch package you get a welcome letter, welcome gift, etc. So I called reception but was told I didn’t book the Pooch package so I don’t get the stuff. That’s fine by me, but checking out I was told to pay additional $50 for I used a Pooch package room, I talked to the manager and was told it was for cleaning, but $175+$50=$225, that’s the price of the Pooch package which I didn’t get. The manager told me she’ll ask the manager I talked to the night before that he’ll ring me to explain what happened and apologise, but it’s been 9 days I haven’t heard from them.

Dear Christine, Thank you for the opportunity to clarify a few things regarding your booking and your stay with us. Your booking was through Expedia and you did choose a pet friendly room how ever you did not book the Pooch package which is an addition as we include bedding, water and treats for the dog. The condition you left the room on departure was quite horrifying and took our housekeeping team a long time and specialistic treatment to bring the room back to our required standards. Regards Carl Forrest

1. Found it severely ridiculous spa timer was set only to 5 minutes a button press which was located all the way on the left side way. We were freezing constantly resetting the spa timer.
2. Pool was way too small, could not use it. Balcony area in front of the spa is unusable to go outdoors.
3. Room was very dusty, sheets were rough and thin (would often fall off moving around in the night causing us to be cold) and fell off, mattress hard (2*cheap single mattress beds), shower pressure not so good but temp was good (no hand held shower either), air-con went oddly to heat mode above 23.5 degrees C, no timer mode, we suffered a lot of congested nose (please check air con filters - your manhole in front of the door was slightly opened, I closed it) and lack of quality sleep as a result, we tried sleeping with the window closed and open, didn’t see to make a difference.
4. Upon check out / bag collection, reception staff was unable to refill our water bottle, sighting staff was not at the bar and there was a sign saying staff was isolating due to COVID isolation rules, however I felt she could have simply refilled out water bottle, it's not that hard and surely staff must have access to water. The tap in the lobby bathroom was not the right height for our water bottle.
5. Business area is hidden with no lobby signage.
6. Reception desk was unmanned most of the time but staff seem to come out from the back after some few seconds or minutes. We were greeted to that and left like that. Staff was good with minding bags and giving us extra tissues/toilet paper. We did not use the cleaner’s service since only there for 3 days and value privacy more.
7. Only one sofa chair in the room, caused lack of luggage holding space, usually we place our luggage on a bigger sofa, saves us always bending down.
8. TV has a very hard menu to operate, made me feel like not using it at all. Couldn't display program info without leaving the channel and going back to a complex Hotel menu.
9. Bathroom floor didn't drain.
10. Lights WAY too bright in room, only two light switches.
11. Safe did not lock.
12. Buffet was always closed when we went down after 11am, due to COVID isolation requirements. Would be nice to serve all day breakfast & other food. Only saw the cafe outlet outside on the street side open with 1 customer drinking coffee however we were in a rush to our tram. There was no water refill tap in lobby & bar was closed. Staff did not direct to cafe.
13. Only two spoons.

Dear Someonetoldme, Thank you for your review and there are a number of items that I will be addressing and correcting internally. Firstly the service over that period of your stay I am sorry it was not up to standard but Covid ripped through the majority of our team and we had no choice but to close and operate on a skeleton crew at the last minute. I am very grateful for your feedback and rest assured we are making some adjustments to our operation based on your feedback. Thank you Carl Forrest

The hotel could be great and is currently working well below their 4.5 star ratings and reviews. The location is great with easy access by tram in all directions, local stores and food within easy walking distance , HOWEVER that's where the good ends. On a recent 4 day stay the reception staff upon check in were , rude, aggressive and frazzled. On day 1 (overnight) the room was NOT serviced at all, On Day 2 the room was NOT serviced again and despite in person request and phone request, we needed to ring for fresh towels and the rubbish bins to be emptied. The reception is often unattended, and the. Excuses by reception were made several times about the Housekeeping issue , like they must have missed the room ( Don't we work off a guest manifest ? ) and the 2nd time that there is no staff to clean (so why are we still selling rooms at full price that are advertised as serviced??) it's actually an insult to my intelligence in saying so, would I stay again , NO they would need to lift their game and fix these current issues, as Melb is a Hotel Mecca and I can just go elsewhere.

Dear megsystravels I am truly sorry you had a bad experience during your stay with us. Can you please reach out to me on carl.forrest@viewhotels.com so I can arrange a time to call you and personally apologise. You are right we have been caught out at short notice with staff not able to turn up and there is not a single hotel in Melbourne that is not experiencing this as a result of pandemic. Regardless we need to do better and hopefully I have the opportunity to talk you.

From the understanding staff regarding our late check in and our reason for travelling to Melbourne (Hospital admission) right through to the staff offering a late checkout in case the hospital stay caused more pain than expected etc. Everything was straight forward and easy to understand. Covid clean and appropriate (fresh pen per customer, staff wearing masks and monitoring who is within the building / if they should or shouldn't be, hands free checkout etc)
Literally couldn't find a fault if I tried. The views were great, the bed was comfortable, shower had pressure and was spacious. I will be back!
Thank you so much for having us.

We loved staying here. It has large rooms and a good restaurant attached. Plus it’s very easy to get to Chapel Street with all its trendy restaurants or into the city centre. Nice helpful staff. There’s a cricket ground on one side which didn’t have a game on unfortunately. It’s good value for money and has its own underground car park at $15 for 24 hrs

Dear nfoote411546 Thank you for the great review on the hotel and your comments regarding masks.....this has been addressed. We would love to offer free car parking for guests but the State charges us a Parking Levy per space which is quite exorbitant. From time to time we special packages that include parking so keep an eye for these especially in the winter months. Wishing you a very Happy and safe New Year.

Eastbourne, United Kingdom292 contributions97 helpful votesIs there anything local for breakfast/brunch & transportation into the city suggestion please 👍
Hotel offers buffet in the main restaurant and cafe a menu. Nearby there is the Prahran markets and Chapel St has a plethora of cool cafes.
Hi Dougie…..you have an exciting trip to Australia planned!!!
Best way to access the hotel from the Airport is by Taxi of which there are plenty at the International Terminal. IO would also recommend a taxi to the Cruise terminal which is only 5 to10 minutes across Albert park from us. This will be a lot easier to manage your luggage.
If you have time to explore we are on one the majoy tram lines which can take you directly into the City and Arts precincts of Melbourne. Melbourne is famous for its laneways and secret hidden restaurants.....let us know if you need some recommendations so you can eat like a local. .
Definitely call them. They will let you drop bags early as stated already. Probably on an individual basis and availability
Yes, but it is only a mini-bar fridge.
Have you thought about storing your baggage at Melbourne airport. They have a luggage storage facility.
