Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Rooms do not look like photos. Tired and dirty. Black mood in bathroom, missing grout, saggy mattress. Would not recommend staying here at over two hundred dollars a night, it is not good value for money. Location is good but there are much better

Very old and rundown rooms. The room we stayed in needs a huge renovation. Bed sagging, dishwasher not working, shower head had water dribbling out, very noisy and dusty smelling heating/cooling, view out of window was a garbage alley. Had a 4 star rating on the website but would have had a cleaner and more modern room staying at a hostel. paid around 250 a night. you can find much more modern and clean rooms in melbourne for similar money. Unfortunately a really disappointing stay and we just stayed out later in the city as we didn't want to go back to the room we paid for!!

Just back from a wonderful 2 night staycation at Hotel Collins. The hotel is ideally located and is surrounded by great shopping, bars and restaurants. Our room was a great size, nicely decorated and quiet. I would absolutely recommend to stay here for either short or long term stays. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for having us!

I really want to write a positive review as reception staff- Ti- was absolutely beautiful and gracious, however I need to address the one bedroom apartment and it was not the best. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable, the spring ridges were unavoidable, the double bed mattress very firm, the step up into the bathroom was an obstacle, leakage of shower water around toilet and the piece of resistance was the noisy heater. ‘Yes’ we chose this accommodation as it was close to the venue we were attending but truly we felt ripped off and for a block over could have got better accommodation at the same or less cost.

My studio room was very clean quiet comfortable and better than expected for the $ in such a central location. They looked after my bag after checkout which was a great help. Some steps on level 4 and step to bathroom, not a problem for me but maybe for some. Would definitely stay again.

We really appreciate this hotel's no frills but comfortable and well equipped small apartments. Ideal for budget travellers who like to prepare some of their own meals. But also it's a superb location and has a top class Japanese and our favourite French restaurant Bistro d' Orsay next door. Free laundry, and obliging staff who will readily supply special needs. Best to book direct.

The reception staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The spacious apartment was beautifully clean. The kitchen had everything that we required for simple meal preparation, as well as a dish washer! The bathroom was well stocked with soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. It would be good to see eco-friendly refillable dispensers. There was nowhere in the bedroom to put suitcases. The free Wifi worked well. There was free access to the laundry room (washing machine and dryer), and laundry powder was supplied. The central location of the hotel made for easy access to local attractions on foot. The trams were also very nearby. There was one elevator, but the stairs were also available to use. The after hours access was tricky using the key to unlock the entrance door on Collins Street.

The 2 beds were dreadful: either ridiculously soft or with springs creaking under your body. All pillows were the same: flat; no loft. The walls were banged up/marked. The whole place looked like it could do with a paint job. There was hardly any artwork on the walls maki my it looks austere & unwelcoming. Friendly staff and good location, but expensive for what it is.

Well, where do i start.? Checkin was pleasant ,thats where it ended. Booked a studio apartment, room was pretty clean, thats where the joy ended... Bed was like the mattress was loaded with bricks, pillows were.dirty,no draw blinds in the room,to cover the holland.blind.They WERE there,as i spotted the track that they were once hung..Too much light coming in to have a decent sleep in.. Bathroom had a cracked sink, fittings were loose,ie hand towel rail, toilet roll holder.. Definetly not was descibed on their website...Nothing against backpackers, but it was on par with a hostel, not what you should expect in the Paris end of Collins St Linen trolley was left in the stairwell, which is illegal due to OHS standards.(no blocking of stairs in case of a fire)..pretty.basic procedures not adheared too.. Last, but no means least,on checkout,we weren"t even asked how our stay was..Lucky for him,he didn't,as i would have gave him an earfull... If they don't know they can't fix it... Just a heads up....the.pics on the website, are not even close,to what the rooms ACTUALLY are, well, our room wasn't anyway... And a final note, just to quote their website, WELCOME TO HOTEL COLLINS You will find us amongst all the action of the ‘Paris end’ of Collins St, Melbourne. Nestled between luxury boutiques, institutional restaurants/bars and iconic sights of Melbourne, Hotel Collins is right in the very heart of the city’s thriving business and entertainment district.   With new ownership and management in 2020, Hotel Collins has been transformed to offer newly refurbished, spacious, self-contained apartments; providing you with a home away from home while you visit the incredible city of Melbourne.   Catering to both corporate and leisure travellers who love to be amongst the action and experience the culture of a new city, Hotel Collins and it’s outstanding location will provide you with endless possibilities right on your door-step. Wonderful hidden gem of accommodation! Right in the CBD, literally minutes walk from bars, restaurants, theatres, shopping, everything right at your finger tips! The room was clean and very well appointed with wonderful block out blinds for a sleep in after a big night out. Staff were super friendly and the complex itself felt so safe and secure, perfectly tucked away between neighbouring buildings. 100% will stay again!
