Friendly and helpful staff; well prepared and presented food; woefully poor selection of drinks; eg, no tawny and few beers; smaller than expected rooms (for a 'king bed room'); clean but ageing décor; and my very worst hates - advertising rates in Euro for an Oz (that's 'Australian' for the uninitiated) hotel, plus, providing imported bottled water as a 'free'...

Hotel was pleasant and clean but not inspiring. Room safe did not work and could only be replaced after we had left. Woken at 1245 by reception through a loudspeaker warning that there might be a fire in the building and that we might have to evacuate. 20 minutes later told was we could go back to sleep. When I...

Stayed four nights. When I came into the room (night 2) it had a very pungent odour. We couldn't be moved out that night due to hotel being fully booked. David, the manager was very helpful and he could not have done more to be service oriented - very good eg. A odour eater was put in the room but...

Booked a two queen bed room with a baby cot for our family with 3 children. The room was quite modern and with minimalist design . Service was very good, our minor requests with the housekeeping was always promptly met by suited staff, pretty impressive. Not so family friendly because: - stairs to main door. You have to carry your...

My husband and I stayed at the Mercure Treasury Gardens for four nights while staying in Melbourne. We were lucky enough to find out that Mercure has a free Shuttlebus pickup/drop off from the airport, which was a huge plus as we had no transportation in Melbourne. Upon check in, we were greeted warmly and informed that our room was...

Enjoyed the stay. A very good breakfast with a lot of selection. Silent rooms and a beautiful view to the park. However, had a lot problems with wifi connections. Also, even the mobile phone connectivity from the room was very poor. For a business traveller, those are major issues. Also, in the morning getting a taxi proved impossible, even if...

I have a one bedroom suite, and it was perfect. Brightly decorated with nespresso machine, which was great. Only problem area was the bathroom which was very dimly lit, so impossible to put make up on in there. The bath was also quite small, and was meant to be a spa, but it was very, very noisy and really didn't...

Booked this hotel half "on spec" after viewing it from outside on a previous Melbourne visit. Scenic views over Treasury Gardens and on the fringe of the CBD proper, I knew it was extremely handy for public transport, the MCG and it's associated sporting precinct (not Etihad Stadium though for those not acquainted with Melbourne) for the two day International...

This room was good size with a balcony w a view of the MCG and treasury gardens. Easy walk to tennis centre, China Town etc. staff helpful. Parking ($24 overnight) avail from nearby parking centre (a little confusing to find when trying to get back to car). Very small drop off area at front of hotel on busy street -...

Great place to stay in Melbourne. Opposite the park with views of the MCG. Decent sized rooms but bathroom small. Good position being very close to the tram stop. Breakfast was good and hotel staff were helpful

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
