Grabbed a one bedroom apartment for a couple of nights at what must have been a very special last minute rate as it was only slightly more expensive than the standard room. It was really big and would be quite suitable for a small family on a longer stay.
The room has a full functioning kitchen with washing machine and dryer in a laundry cupboard.
Very pleasant staff, smooth check-in, accepted the breakfast package @$22. We are very choosy with hotel breakfast and this one was excellent value - great selection of fruits, fresh breads and pastries, cereals and cooked food. The "Home" kitchen is indeed very homely - a nice environment.
Dinner in the bar/restaurant was also good.
Will happily stay here again

We stayed 5 nights in a 1 bedroom premium apartment. We’ve stayed at the Mantra on Russell several times before and only had 1 uncomfortable stay, apparently due to area zoned aircon that was too hot. This time the aircon was individually room controlled and is much better.

We love the location, so close to restaurants, bars, shopping & 1 block from the free city trams.
The 17th floor apartment was clean and quite spacious with a balcony overlooking the city and Russell St below.

The bed and the living area were very comfortable. The HDMI inputs on the TVs are now accessible for connecting other devices (laptops or gaming etc.). There was a washer and separate dryer in the laundry cupboard but no air drying rack for clothes. We knew about this from our previous visits and brought our own portable clothes line. It would be so much easier if a drying rack were provided in the room.

The kitchen was not large but has enough to cook a meal. There was a shortage of crockery, glasses & cutlery etc. Only enough for 3 people were provided. So as a couple we either had to wash it up after every breakfast (a hassle), or have 1/3 full dishwasher loads which is not very energy efficient or good for water conservation. The hotel could really improve here and save on some running costs at the same time.

The shower over bath was very slippery and we requested a non slip mat. The staff were very responsive and a non slip bath mat was promptly provided. These mats are a necessity in every room with a shower over the bath and should be standard as a health and safety matter.

We enjoyed our stay and will be back. I just hope management will take note of the small improvements that would make stays even more comfortable.

Very nice hotel + service apartment. Great location - next to Chinatown has so many food options. Hotel rooms are very clean. Beds very comfortable. Sofa bed is not as comfortable though. One/two bedroom has wash machine, dryer, dishwasher and full kitchen. So staying at this hotel you enjoy the benefit of both hotel and apartment! We booked a deal including 1 car park and breakfast which worked out very well. Staff were very friendly. Very satisfied stay and will stay at Mantra on Russel again next time.

Stayed here for just over 2 weeks and loved it. Had a 1-bedroom premium apartment so was on a higher floor with great views o f the city, especially at night. Check in was easy with James and as I arrived early didn’t expect a room but I did have. The room was spacious with a separate lounge/dining/kitchen area, bedroom, bathroom and in cupboard laundry. The lounge well furnished with a small desk (too small to work on) but unfortunately had an older TV so couldn’t connect to the laptop of phone. (thank you Avi for the HDMI cable) A nice size dining table for 4 people if you have guests and a fully equipped kitchen with all utensils, oven, microwave, dishwasher and full size fridge should you wish to cook (but who would with so many great places to eat close by). The bedroom was a good size with the best pillows I have had in any hotel and great blackout curtains making it easy to sleep. In the double cupboard was a laundry with washer, dryer, iron & bard and a drying rack which is great for longer stays and the bathroom clean and bright. The balcony I found unusual that it was empty of furniture so if you wanted to sit outside and watch the sunset over city you had to drag out a dining chair etc. I was concerned a little about reports of noise and slow lifts but didn’t experience this as I found the room very quiet at night for a city hotel and the lifts like any hotel when busy you might wait but never for long. Breakfast is a standard buffet but all was fresh and tasty, well presented with service and kitchen staff ensuring it was well stocked at all times and you can order eggs to your liking. Thank you to Giovani who served me most mornings during my stay and always making me feel like a valued guest (plus he makes a great long black coffee) and starting my day with a smile. The low point of my stay was check out when I was advised I had an amount owing and when asked what for the night manager nonchalantly replied “probably something they forgot”. I had already paid my bill (be aware there is a credit card surcharge which I have never experienced in any hotel). As it was a small amount I just paid it as needed to get to the airport and when I asked for a bill he seemed reluctant to print it. When I saw it I questioned the charge and he replied “I will give it to my manager to look at later” (enough said I had to go). The last impression has a big Impact on any holiday. I want to thank, James, Avi, Shweta, Rhoshi, Sas and of course Van from front office for the great chats and friendly service. Giovani in the restaurant thank you for starting my day with a smile and treating me like a valued guest. I would rate my stay a 5 but due to the checkout experience its lower. Will I stay there again…. yes, most definitely because it’s a great location with mostly fabulous staff.

Mantra at Russell is a centrally located hotel close to Chinatown and QV. The hotel takes covid-safe seriously. E.g. in-room cooking equipment is wrapped with cling wrap. Included breakfast can be delivered to your room for $5. Platinum status recognition was excellent. Gym, pool, spa and sauna were clean. Overall, great value stay.

Premium One Bedroom Apartment - Very Spacious, Clean and up to date.
Staying 6 nights and having to request for your room to be cleaned a day before was an inconvenience - I would suggest maybe put together a QR code or App where it is easier to request instead of going to Reception to request this. Breakfast was good - Instead of the coffee being an additional charge offer the additional charge with the Buffet Breakfast so guests do not need to request it.

My husband and I stayed for six nights in a one bedroom apartment with a balcony. The location was excellent, as it was right in the CBD so close to shops, supermarkets, and fantastic restaurants all within walking distance. The room service was not very consistent, but it was a busy time of the year, so we figured that the staff were a bit overwhelmed. As we came off a cruise ship in the early hours of the morning, we were really happy to find that our room was ready when we arrived instead of having to wait until the afternoon. Staff on the front desk were awesome, and extremely friendly and helpful.

The hotel itself is fantastic, we had the 1-bedroom apartment and it was so spacious and looked just like how it did in pictures! Great location, friendly desk staff at check-in, we had a really great time. The bed was comfy, and the room was really nice.

We took advantage of the City of Melbourne FOMO deal, which included late checkout. This was confirmed by the staff member who helped us out at check-in, and was written in my confirmation email and on the website when I made my booking. However, on our last day, staff called us from the front desk to the room asking when we planned on leaving. I said we had late checkout as a part of our package, and then the staff member came up to the room to look at my confirmation email and still doubted my late checkout.

We did have a great stay, but this experience was really disappointing. If your hotel is going to offer a deal then staff members need to be informed of what is included. At least they need to have that information accessible to them before questioning guests about the validity of their booking.

Dear elisek712, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mantra on Russell Melbourne. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback. I will share your comments with our team. I am sure that this feedback will serve as an encouragement to all of our staff as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services. In regards to the late checkout I think this is more of an issue with the displaying of the check out time on our system which resulted in the 12pm check out not showing properly resulting in you receiving a phone call. Sincere apologies for this. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one. Sincerely, Aaron Glenn

We stayed for 3 nights over Easter. As our plans had changed, we left booking this hotel very late. Only studio rooms were available as opposed to 1 bedroom apartments we normally stay in. We were surprised at the size of the studio as it had all we needed for a few days. Our stay was enjoyable from front of house staff, the room, pool & gym, cleanliness etc. We have booked to return again in November and may well fit in another weekend away before then Covid permitting! This property is our no. 1 choice.

This is the first time we stayed at the Mantra on Russell.
We booked a premium apartment. It was very spacious and clean. The balcony was very large and extended the full length of the lounge room and the bedroom.
The kitchen had a dishwasher, microwave, stove and a decent sized fridge.
There was also a cupboard that opened up to a mini laundry.
The king bed and the pillows were very comfortable.
There were 2 TV's: one in the bedroom and the over in the living room.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were going to get there by bicycle and they were going to store our bikes but we changed our mind and drove. Parking is $35 a day.
The spa and pool were great.
We will be back.

There's a washer and separate tumble dryer and noise was not noticeable with the windows closed and AC on. It is central Melbourne so there's some street noise but not disturbing.

Nowhere in Melbourne CBD is close to the cruise terminal (Station Pier). Station Pier is in Port Melbourne, about a 15 minute can ride from the CBD. The nearest hotels to the port would be in St Kilda. But even that's still a 10 minute can ride. Just stay in the CBD and enjoy the city.
