Having had a very enjoyable stay at the Rialto in the past, I decided to visit again for a long weekend with my partner. I'm glad to report that its still a lovely experience staying at this hotel. The lobby and atrium are awesome, the room was nicely appointed and clean, and the breakfast was fantastic with lots of delicious...

This is not what I was expecting from an Intercontinental hotel - in a good way! It is much smaller with a lovely boutique hotel feel about it. Room service dinner and the buffet breakfast were both delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

This hotel is beautiful. It's not flashy, but it's just really interesting. The glass ceilings were a great touch, this way, everyone in the hotel gets a bit of sun. Breakfast was fantastic. Wide array of breakfast treats from organic yogurt to fresh fruit. The location is in a prime spot as it's close to most of the touristy places...

I stayed at the intercontinental over the weekend with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. I do have to say the location of the hotel is a positive as we walked down to Crown and only took us 15 min max and the reception upon arriving and departure where nice and sufficient. The room was nice, but felt very claustrophobic...

A quick one night getaway in Melbourne and hadn't been to this hotel for quite a while. Still as great as I remember it. From the airport via the SkyBus (quick, easy, cheap) and it takes you right to Southern Cross (Spencer St) Station - only a 700m walk to this hotel. Great check-in experience - I'd booked this via...

My bias stems from the fact that we got married here three years ago, staying three nights in the Turret Suite and the hotel and staff could not have looked after us more. On top of that, I love the architecture of the two old wool stores and lane way converted into this hotel. Saying that, we stayed here again...

I stayed at the Intercontinental Melbourne for business in January and have mixed feelings about my stay. It's a great property and when you enter off Collins Street, it feels like an Intercontinental should. On this occasion, check in was quick and easy and I was given a good room overlooking the atrium. It's a shame the windows don't open,...

The Rialto is based on a Heritage building used by wool merchants in the second half of the 1800s. The entrance is impressive with 8 floors of iron work, and staff whose positive, welcoming attitude is refreshing from the doorman, conceirge and a receptionist too. Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies. Before guests arrive, they can take advantage of the concierges’ passion and Insider knowledge of the city. Chief Concierge, James Ridenour and his team are the key to authentic experiences of the real Melbourne and everything the city has to offer. ... more   less
